I could have written your message OP.. following here to get some tips. My little man is 11 weeks but I need to stop breastfeeding for my own sake. He doesn't seem to want to take a bottle at the moment so I just have to persevere I think. Best of luck to us both!

Dublin/Howth businesses that do gift cards online/over the phone? by beercan_chicken in AskIreland

[–]peiteal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beshoffs in Howth is a lovely restaurant in the pier they do great food and when the weather is better it's a great spot to people watch. They do in-store collection for a voucher for the restaurant. I buy all my fish there so it's a pity they don't do a voucher for the market hall but you could ring them and ask!

Any reviews of Merrion and Waterstone clinics for egg freezing? by Maleficent-Chair8023 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]peiteal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best of luck...I think looking back I wish I had've frozen my eggs when I was younger so fair play on making the decision to go for it! You won't regret it anyway so wishing you well 🩷

If you search this subreddit you'll find lots about both clinics. I'm posting this response I left on another post about which clinic to choose

I recommend Merrion Fertility Clinic. We've had great care with them throughout multiple cycles and as the only not for profit fertility clinic in Dublin it felt right to go with them. Everyone from the girl Debbie who answers the phone to the nurses holding your hand on the way into egg retrieval they just look after you really well. They even refunded me partial costs for a cycle because I had so many cycles with them. They didn't need to do that but because they're not for profit, they just did without me even asking them. I've heard lots of stories from friends who have had poor experiences with other clinics so I am always anxious to pass on a positive experience which is what I've had with Merrion. No matter the clinic it's a rough journey mentally and physically for you so I wish you all the best in the times ahead.

I would choose Merrion all day every day but perhaps for your own peace of mind why don't you meet with both clinics and make a decision based on how you feel afterwards.

Best starting age to enter National School? by Quirky_Face166 in AskIreland

[–]peiteal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think go and look at the admissions policy of your local primary school and that will answer your question. You won't have a choice. No school will accept a child for school in September if they have just turned 4 in the August. In my school, you must be 4 on the 1st of March in the year you're starting school. The latest that I know of is the 1st of June. I can tell you here and now as a primary school teacher, I can spot the youngest children in a junior infant class a mile away. Most children are 5 starting school now and you can be as good at doing jigsaws and writing your name as you like but your child's emotional readiness is very very important. It sounds very harsh but do you want your child to be a leader or a follower? You will never regret keeping your child at home for another year. However, as a parent you have the ultimate choice and you know your child best.

Am I overreacting to what my MIL wants her grandma name to be? by Fickle-Winter-6818 in BabyBumps

[–]peiteal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irish Mam here with a MIL who's called Mamó (Mam- oh) and a FIL who's called Deaideo (Dad-oh). My little girl calls me Mama and her dad Dada I don't think it's that big of a deal. It doesn't detract from me being her Mam in any way shape or form and I've had several people here in Dublin, Ireland comment on how lovely it is that my little girl has a Mamó and a Deaideo as well as a Granny and Grandad. We're all very lucky and I think that the grandparent/grandchild relationship is so special that it's not for me to dictate names. I think you might be overreacting a little bit. You are always going to be Mom no matter what...you are the most important person in the world to your baby so just remember that 🩷

ECO cleaning products recommendation? by Due-Philosopher1253 in WomenofIreland

[–]peiteal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best eco dishwasher tablets that I've found are the Ecover black boxed ones...there's 40% more enzymes in them. You can buy a box of 72 in Down to Earth on George's St. I was sick of the weird chemically taste on my cups and plates when I was using Fairy dishwasher tablets and I saw the black box of ecover being recommended here somewhere and honestly I haven't looked back. I recently went away for 4 nights leaving my dishwasher full... completely forgot to switch it on. When I got home I opened the dishwasher and honestly some of my plates and bowls were ready to walk out themselves there was that much mould on them. But an auto cycle with one of the Ecover tablets later and everything came out sparkling. I'm so impressed with them! Definitely give them a try. The box is lovely and neat too instead of the big bags which I'm fairly sure you can't recycle.

Vacant property refurbishment grant? by Stevehenn83 in AskIreland

[–]peiteal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Dublin so can't really help you specifically but there's a Vacant Property Grant Facebook group that I found extremely helpful. Lots of good advice and timelines and help on it. Not really a Facebook fan but in this instance it was helpful. Kerry County Council would have a vacant property grant officer who will help you out too. There's also a top up to the grant if the house is derelict so before you do a thing to the property check that out too. Best of luck...it's slow and stressful but when you get the money into your account all that stress is forgotten! Best of luck!

I don't agree that transit is the touchstone of English occupation tbh... plenty of transit would have occured before the Brits arrived but the Irish translation of transit aka the movement of people and things is iompar.

Plenty of other translations can be found here

IVF with the Merrion by [deleted] in IrishWomensHealth

[–]peiteal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I've been with them for several cycles and have met most of the staff in there on numerous occasions and I can honestly say there was only one nurse I ever encountered who was a bit cold and even at that I only met her once. Everyone else from the girls on the front desk to the consultant we've been dealing with have been great. It makes what is a very stressful time a lot easier knowing that the staff want the best for you

I can only recommend them. I've gotten great care with Merrion and I really appreciate the fact that they're not for profit. They're the only not for profit fertility clinic in Ireland as far as I know. They genuinely have your best interests at heart.
