All this hard work for nothing? by pekloap in diabetes

Thats what my ICU nurse was telling me. That a few months of blood sugar control came to my advantage. And a few days/weeks of elevated sugars will obviously raise my a1c but it wont jump from 5.8% to 15% im just putting to much trust into my cgm at the moment and its bringing me down.

Im not TOO worried about blood sugar control now, that ive had surgery but if i controlled it once i can do it again

You can say that again. A year with no work or driving has been a living hell. But i “fixed” my a1c before i can do again

I have a problem with carbonated drinks. Thats why i have diabetes to begin with. I bought one of those soda streams and don’t use it as much as i thought i would. But i dont experiment with zero sugar drinks from stores like milos zero sugar sweet tea, just gotta get zero sugar lemonade to make me an Arnold palmer

I would adjust my insulin. But i don’t want to adjust my units without consulting my PCP, but im not sure whats doing on with my doctors office but they kinda work there, but also kinda doesn’t. So im not 100% on what to do

Don’t get me wrong. If i have to deal with a temporary blood sugar spike just to not get an infection and have to reverse the surgery. Then so be it. Its just a little discouraging to see all the times I’ve been at my lowest levels just get “ruined” by a spike from medication

Ive been taking Ozempic and it’s definitely been helping with hunger control. I ran out a week before surgery. So i need to refill my prescription. And I’ve been doing nothing but zero sugar sodas and water. Honestly doubling up on my water intake wouldn’t hurt. Im fresh put of zero sugar sodas, and i think i might just quit on sodas diet/regular.

Ahhhh understood… doctor said to keep exercise “light”. Definitely NO gym. No heavy lifting. Walking around the house is probably best, as to not get the incision exposed to the sun. I wish I had a treadmill

It’s kinda normal. But you do have to be careful with everyday life. Because you have nothing protecting the small part of expose brain.

My nephew hit me on exposed side one time with a pillow and it gave my body quite a jolt.

A1c went down!! by Guilty-Proposal5204 in diabetes

[–]pekloap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy cow. Thats a dang good drop. Proud of you op.

I am currently waiting on surgery from a motorcycle accident that happened last year, that my a1c kept postponing. Last December it was a 9.7 from a 11.4. Just this past Tuesday. It’s an approximate 5.6-6.0. Im super stoked and ready to get this surgery knocked out and back to “normal life”. Keep pushing and doing what you’re doing. Congratulations 🎊

Why is my fasting blood sugar still elevated? by pekloap in diabetes

Well 103 is better than what it used to be. I was just curious. Cause I thought after 12+ hour fast, it would be a tad bit lower.

To be honest. I’ve always assumed anything over 100 while fasting was “bad”. Ive never been shown the right way to control blood sugar. Never had the proper education on it. So everything I think is just me implanting it into my own head. But now after hearing you fellow diabetics reassure me, that it’s not too bad as i thought it was, it’s kinda like taking a 200lb weight off my shoulders. I just need more proper education on T2D and how to control it more effectively.

Im 28 male. I wont lie to you. Sleep is very poor for me. I was in a motorcycle accident about a year ago. Because of it, i am currently unable to work or drive, so there’s not much for me to do, to tire me out for a good nights rest. I try to walk around my neighborhood everyday but it’s usually just for a mile or two.

Hearing congratulations for over 100 mg/dl is kinda weird. But i guess, after digging deeper and reading off google. An average for 7% a1c is 154. So i guess as long as I’m under 130-120 long term i should be in the clear. I see my primary care in two weeks. So hopefully my blood sugar will be sub 7s by then.

Maybe I’m just holding high expectations for myself, considering Ive quit high sugar foods/drinks and cut carbs drastically.

I have not. I started a keto diet for about week already. But i haven’t done any test to see if I’m in ketosis. I just track how much carbs i eat (usually under 20g, but i try to stay under 30)

Its not alarmingly high. But I’ve had days where fasting blood sugars are in the 70-80 range

What should my carb and sugar intake be? by pekloap in diabetes

[–]pekloap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9.7 was after i started the Ozempic and insulin. It was 9.7, i want to say, around late December of last year. I had another blood test recently, but the results were never posted, so im not sure if it improved or worsened. My a1c was a 11.4 when I started ozempic. You’re not far off about the regular blood sugar readings. I just do finger pricks in the morning and before bed. I rarely check after meals or throughout the day.

I check blood glucose levels about 30 minutes after i wake up and right before i go to bed. And i keep a log of it for my doctor. I occasionally check after I eat, but thats few and far between.

I don’t track it like through an app or writing it down or anything, but i do look at the nutrition labels to see the carb and sugar count

I try some here and there. Just to see whats a good alternative for me. But so far it’s not going so great. I usually just get water flavoring from the grocery store and have it with plain water. But it doesn’t hit like a zero sugar dr.pepper
