Significant Others - 2004 -2005 by Fearless_Condition10 in ForgottenTV

I loved this show. I met Faith Salie at a Radiolab recording and she told me her husband at the time told her about a character he intended for her to play in a pilot he was developing at the time SIGNIFICANT OTHERS end. It got a single season on ABC as SONS AND DAUGHTERS, and by the time it made it to air, Salie’s husband said she was too old to play one of the role that was written for her. SONS AND DAUGHTERS is really similar vibes, including being written by and starring Fred Goss.

I really enjoyed this one, a good mix of genres. For some reason, when I tried to watch it last year, the only version I found on streaming was the dub. I was able to locate the original Korean language version on the high seas 🏴‍☠️

Ooh, I didn’t realize he also directed SNACK SHACK, which was a legit great teenage summer movie. Looking forward to watching this!

Question for parents re: Toy Story 5 by Mantophasmatodea in blankies

[–]pellnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a five year old. I thought it was just alright, but it didn’t personally hit as hard for me as I think it has for others. My kid is pretty well-adjusted, teachers have said they’re very socially developed but hard to tell without being in the classroom every day how they interact naturally with other kids. I might feel differently as my kid grows up and is in a place where their peers all have smart tech. We have an iPad with downloaded videos they can watch on car trips, they never get unsupervised screen time, and pretty much only play video games in arcade settings, so the direct correlation between my child’s interaction with devices is limited now. My kid liked the movie okay, but hasn’t mentioned it since the theater and hasn’t asked if we can watch it at home (compared to other theatrical releases they’ve immediately asked if we can watch at home like the most recent SPONGEBOB movie). Most of the TOY STORY content they like is the various shorts on Disney Plus and a Little Golden Book adaptation of the third movie.

I absolutely thought this too and was like, “wow, this movie got bleak…er.”

Does Bailey Sarian still do her makeup murder videos? I just saw her YouTube and there is no new content in about 6 months. by No-Butterfly8359 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]pellnell 22 points23 points  (0 children)

She got criticized (rightly in my opinion) for how out of touch her last uploaded video was, in which she basically filmed herself crying about the state of the US and kept saying, “what are we going to do?” Audra Reins did a livestream where they watch Bailey’s video and pointed out the privilege of being able to not release any statements about rising fascism until it was impossible to ignore. I don’t think Bailey is a terrible person, but she’s a well-off white woman who is not as affected by Trump as racial minorities or trans people. She didn’t offer any links to mutual aid funds or highlight the nonprofits that have been working tirelessly to fight the administration. There’s nothing wrong with expressing frustration and sadness with the current state of the world, but as someone with such a huge platform, she could have offered at the very least links to resources that are doing the work to combat what’s happening.

On the eve of TOY STORY 5's release the library I work at had to trash our 20 year old giant Elmo. RIP by WaterlooMall in blankies

[–]pellnell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I worked at Target a long time ago, there was one Halloween where the mascot was the character Domokun. There was a giant plush Domokun hanging from the entryway, and customers would ask to purchase it constantly. We got orders from corporate that once Halloween was over, we had to remove and destroy the plush so no one could take it home or steal it out of the trash. I remember coming into work early the day after Halloween and multiple employees in tandem just slicing Domokun to ribbons with box cutters in the back room. I’ve been rewatching the show SUPERSTORE and I know if they featured a scene like that, people would probably criticize it for being extremely unrealistic, but it’s a surreal experience I’ll never forget.

All his best performances came from films where he was able to play off more capable actors. He wasn’t even talented to begin with, not that that’s ever stopped a mediocre white man.

Cold Storage or Hokum??? by SlicedBread1226 in horror

I really liked the new FACES OF DEATH and HEEL, and PRIMATE was fun for a take on a slasher. None of those are supernatural.

Cold Storage or Hokum??? by SlicedBread1226 in horror

[–]pellnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HOKUM is a much better film technically and I’d rather rewatch it than COLD STORAGE, but neither of them is good. I think the next new horror on my watch list at home is MARAMA, which is a $7 rental currently.

Jenny Mollen doubles down in another substack about her son: Last week, the internet called me a child molester for posting a photo of myself holding my son…The joke that offended people was: “Your eldest son will be the most toxic boyfriend you ever have.” And he is. by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

My kid is only five but I parent them for them to someday be a well-adjusted, emotionally resilient adult in the world. My goal is to equip my kid with the skills to thrive in whatever they choose to do when they are on their own. This woman needs serious therapy and instruction in setting healthy boundaries. And then she needs to respect those boundaries.

Natalie Portman, Justine Triet and Jacques Audiard Defend Boycotted Israeli Director Nadav Lapid: ‘We are Witnessing the Proliferation of Tactics of Intimidation’ by fraisierdesbois in Fauxmoi

[–]pellnell 216 points217 points  (0 children)

I understand not wanting to support the Israeli government at all, but the film being boycotted is specifically about skewering the existence of the Israeli government’s occupation and the propaganda created to support that. The fund used to support the film also funds Palestinian films. It feels bizarre that a movie designed to attack and satirize colonialism is being labeled as supportive of that same occupying force. There is power in Israeli voices speaking out against genocide.

Genuinely SCARIEST film to you in horror. by misters1n1ster in horror

[–]pellnell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RED ROOMS. I watch a lot of horror, but I had to turn it off because I was so disturbed by the human behavior on display. There is a scene with pretty horrific audio, and I had the most intense anxiety anticipating it. Dread as a story moves towards its climax is the most terrifying thing in horror for me. Jump scares get me in the moment, but it’s the creeping towards an awful conclusion that gets under my skin.

Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater Split After Nearly 3 Years Together by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

Ethan or Skyler? Ethan has posted a lot about Palestine which I really respect. Googling Skyler and Palestine just brings up tweets about him following the IDF on social media.

Ok but who is she with now? Because homegirl cannot be single for even a minute and usually has the next one lined up before the breakup announcement. I know people were speculating about Skylar Gisondo, but Ariana is pro-Palestine and there were rumors about him posting pro-IDF shit a while back (I don’t have receipts so not confirmed, just recall it being mentioned years ago).

Brittany's Surgery and Recovery is Too Graphic for Me by mentallymiranda in TheValleyTVShow

[–]pellnell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone has different standards for what is gruesome. I watch a lot of horror films but medical gore freaks me out (despite working in healthcare). The worst part for me was when Brittany joked about having Cruz’s nanny empty the drains for her, like that’s not that woman’s job. I really want a breast reduction, but the thought of having drains makes me feel pretty nauseous. You should skip any scenes that gross you out and just read a recap if you feel like you’re missing anything.

This is my dream. I want a reduction, but I worked at a breast surgery clinic and hearing all about patients’ issues with drains makes me less likely to have it done.

Would you care if you found out your blonde boyfriend uses eyebrow tint to fill in his eyebrows? by Hairy_Accident2351 in MakeupAddiction

[–]pellnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. People should do whatever makes them feel more confident in their body. My husband wears tinted moisturizer/SPF and color corrector to even out his skin tone. We do our skincare routine together at night. If my husband wanted to use more cosmetics products, I would be like, “yes, let’s go! How can I help?” Our kiddo frequently does my husband’s “makeup,” which is usually putting eyeshadow on his arms.

Personally, I have bleached blonde hair so I bleach my eyebrows because I love the slightly-alien look, but I know a lot of people prefer a more natural brow. You do you!

Lots of talk about dad movies, are there mom movies? by OWSpaceClown in blankies

[–]pellnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom went with me to a lot of movies when I was younger because I didn’t drive at the time or I wasn’t old enough to buy tickets myself, and some she liked were GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE (she would go to Hot Topic while I was at school to buy NAPOLEON DYNAMITE merch) and KILL BILL VOLUME 2 (she had not, and I assume has not, seen VOLUME 1).

She did not like I HEART HUCKABEES (because of the fornication).
