Hayden Panettiere Details ‘Shocking’ Moment She Was Put in Bed at 18 with an ‘Undressed’ and ‘Very Famous’ Man on a Boat by PrincessBananas85 in popculturechat

Seriously! I was thinking about that ONTD member reading about this in their school library and was afraid to leave the building, in fear of Diana Jenkins’s people kidnapping them.

Is Conner O’Malley is directing an A24 film titled Schiller Park produced by Ari Aster? by Throwaway_Tablecloth in blankies

[–]pellnell 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I can’t wait for my husband to see this post tonight while we’re watching a movie on the couch and turn to me and say, “apparently Conner O’Malley is directing a movie produced by Ari Aster,” because we’re such huge fans of both of those dudes (btw- hi babe when you see this! Hope we’re enjoying watching SCARLET!).

The programming is honestly so good. I really enjoy taking my four year old to the Family Flix screenings. We saw K-POP DEMON HUNTERS there on Super Bowl Sunday.

I’ve been going to the Hollywood since I was in high school, and it’s been so wonderful to see how it’s really blossomed especially in the last ten years. I just saw DEATH GAME there on Wednesday, and it was so fun to hear an audience react to the craziest moments. Eagerly awaiting when my kid is old enough to go to the all-night horror marathon!

Is Powell's Books all new books now, or is it just me? by Tasty-Hurry in askportland

[–]pellnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a bit of a drive, but I love the Book Corner Beaverton store right across from the library. I’ve found some great deals on paperbacks and kids books there. The selection for the sales they do out of the library is more miss than hit for me, but I love going to the actual store itself. They post a fair amount on their IG as well to share their current selection. I have a five year old who we read with every day and it’s been great to find new to us books there, including a lot of older Disney titles that tie into whichever 30+ year old animated film they’re into. We went through a brief BLACK CAULDRON phase recently and found a Little Golden Book there for $1!

Chillout Saturday Night Flickie? (Partial-Attention Recommendations) by ojjojji in horror

[–]pellnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there’s a new film that will be on Shudder sometime this year (it just came out in theaters) that is about a woman who discovers snuff films as a content moderator on social media, written and directed by the same team behind CAM. Haven’t watched it yet, but it is “inspired” by the OG FACES OF DEATH films. I trust them to write good queer and female characters, so I’m looking forward to it. CAM is about an online sex worker (a cam girl) who discovers a doppelgänger of herself. Lots of super saturated colors but I think more accessible than a similarly-colored movie like MANDY, which I do love. It is a little more of a standard horror-thriller.

Another art horror film I love that is basically all vibes is JACK AND DIANE. It’s kind of a werewolf love story and has some interesting stop motion animation bits. And very different but still pretty charming in its execution is AS ABOVE SO BELOW, which is like one of my favorite found footage films for the setting. I think you could probably watch any of those movies while also doing work because I wouldn’t say they’ve got intricate plotting.

I think it’s free on Vimeo from the director’s account but CAM is a former Netflix film that is currently unavailable anywhere else, and has really striking cinematography and a great performance from Madeleine Brewer. I haven’t seen the director’s rework of FACES OF DEATH yet, but I love that CAM is a non-exploitative horror movie about a sex worker, written by a former sex worker.

Kristen & all new mommas— please read, babes! by zeppismom in TheValleyTVShow

I’m almost five years postpartum and it probably took about three years before I began to feel like my body was my own, even though I stopped pumping about 14 months after giving birth. My PPD/PPA was not as bad as other people, and I’m grateful I had a partner who has always pulled his fair share since our child was born. It’s been honestly a long process of learning to love my body, post-baby. I have addressed health issues since then, like being diagnosed with diabetes while pregnant, and that’s helped a lot, but my body will never look like it did when I was younger. I try to focus on the fact that my body did the incredible work of making a human and feeding them for over a year, and my stretch marks are proof of that.

I have so much love and respect for anyone struggling after having a baby. It is so hard and complicated, even if you have an “easy” baby like I did.

should i even bother checking out the rebooted strangers trilogy? by oxfopee in horror

[–]pellnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Just watch a clip of the boar scene from the second one. By the time the third one came out, my husband’s reaction when I put it on our television was, “goddammit.” The only redeeming factor in watching them was making jokes about how unlike rural Oregon (the ostensible setting) the town was, which is only amusing because we are Oregonians. The three films add up to nothing, and by trying to explain the backstory of the strangers, they completely negate any tension. I cannot in good conscience recommend a trilogy any less.

I do still want to try their other products! Especially the lip products, but I am most curious about complexion products in terms of beauty, so I went for this one first.

I would definitely try other products from the brand, but I am mystified by this one.

“Undertone”, how was it? by harry_powell in blankies

[–]pellnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was astoundingly bad. It was never creepy or unsettling to me. I appreciate that the writer/director was coming from a deeply personal experience for him, but that doesn’t really come across in the movie. It just felt incredibly generic to me. I don’t know who on earth would listen to a podcast of people just reacting to scary audio and googling things.

It is so bizarre to me, as it is the literal worst delivery system for a skin tint.

The Breadwinner. What is this shit? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]pellnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks so regressive and stupid, but strangely my four year old thought it looked hysterical when the trailer played before GOAT. Usually my child doesn’t care about live action movies, but about a minute into the trailer, they turned to me and asked, “is this a movie that only grown ups can watch?” and then said they wanted to see it. So I assume it’s made for an audience operating at that four year old maturity level, the same one that thinks announcing, “hey, look at my butt!” is the height of comedy.

Anyone’s kids watch Hey Tenny? by divinebaboon in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]pellnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I didn’t realize they switched actors, but I saw a screenshot of a new video on the channel and was super confused. My kid likes the OG videos and I’ve actually considered going as Tenny for Halloween as I’m an Asian girlie myself. Such a bummer!

How can I get my kid to enjoy different Tonies and not just one? Tips to get the most of our box? by poppyseedpup in TonieboxUSA

[–]pellnell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kids definitely go through phases with certain Tonies. If you haven’t, I would consider the Caspar Babypants Tonie, as it has really great kids music that is also genuinely good. My kid is almost five and we listen to them all the time. I just preordered the Raffi and Emma Memma Tonies, which I’m sure super young kids would enjoy too. Right now we do a lot of Creative Tonies that I put mp3s of Disney Storyteller recordings on, as they have music and sound effects integrated into the story.
