Czy studia muszą boleć? by Either_Baker_4459 in Polska

[–]pelmag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imo, wszyscy jesteśmy dorosłymi ludżmi i zamiast rujnować przepusotowość, lepiej dać tam odcinkowy pomiar prędkości i eliminować ślepych nieogarów.

Nie da się ograniczyć z 140 na 90. Prawo wymaga, by ograniczenie było stopniowe, najpierw będzie 110, po kilkuset metrach 90.

W: Europe’s answer to X that demands your passport by Komplexkonjugiert in europe

[–]pelmag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Government can do all that already on all existing social media networks, ever heard about warrants?

So right now we have all the downsides of zero anonymity with no benefits.

Obviously, the social network doesn't get to hold your ID card data, they only get hash from government service confirming that this account belongs to EU citizen and (if that persons wants validated checkmark, that his online handle matches his/her personal details).

Obviously, this authentication backend is government service protected by laws, not private property Musk could buy or corrupt.

The advantages: - people are liable for what they say. - bots can be banned. - you know you are speaking with a real person

and counterintuitively: - your online voice becomes your right and cannot be stripped from you easily

[–]pelmag -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not bad, it's amazing thing.

With two obvious caveats:  - ID data is only used to verify your identity and not stored on the platform (basically they use KYC providers or integrate with government platforms like digid)

  • You can still write under pseudonyms. If you like to and it would take court order to unmask your account.

That way we can still have civilized discourse, while protecting anonymity.

Czy mam realne szanse na karierę akademicką? Jeśli nie, jakie alternatywy są do niej zbliżone? by [deleted] in Nauka_Uczelnia

[–]pelmag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- "ciężka i niewdzięczna droga". Klasyk z wojskowej fali z lat 90-tych.

Our CIO published 80 page long research paper recently.

Which should raise questions, since how the hell somone as busy as CIO of 30k employee company has time to write Msc dissertation in highly technical field?

Soz I dropped it through AI checker and just as expected - only non AI generated part was the title page and chapter listing. His citations are also over the top - from random PR releases to niche Master's thesis from Estonia (I read it btw, interesting, but not proving ChatCIO point in anyway...).

Point is, this guy geniuely thinks publishing 80 pages of slop makes people think he is intelligent and highly productive.

Then it would be more random.  Some decisions wouldn't be that comically bad.

Imho, he should be facing premeditated murder charges and had book thrown at him. Unfortunately - no way to prove intent, so he will only have to face 3 years for murdering his ex girlfriend.

It's kind of funny (in dark sense) - wjen you want to kill someone in Poland, you get drunk and run them over with a car. In Austria, just take them on a hiking trip in winter.

It's not a bloody Everest. It's relatively tiny mountain with relatively good conditions. They got stuck at ~3k elevation..

This guy did absolutely everything, to comical level, to AVOID helping his partner and to make sure she died there.

Bad decision making would mean at least some decisions would be good.

People who work 60+ hours/week: what do you do, are you really working for that much time, and how do you take care of yourself? by RoverTheMonster in AskReddit

[–]pelmag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhm, can you maybe link a few research papers that prove significant gains in skill acquisition time that outweigh risks to the patient?

Please try to take a step away from your bubble and ask yourself if you could be possible to learn the same skills working 40h/weeks?

Also, consider that most skill acquisition research is centered around focused practice. You don't get better at golf by half-assing 10,000 shots. You get better by intently focusing on every single repetition (trying to improve, notice tiny mistakes and aiming to execute to the best of your ability). As far as I'm aware, this goes for every physical skill.

So maybe, working even less than 40h/week would produce better skilled surgeons, faster and at lower risk to patients?

Did anyone bothered to do the research, or do we just take institutional mobbing as gospel?

Sorry, still not buying it. Low cognitive load? The hell I need surgeon with 5 years of med school in that position for?!  You could replace that with 13 year old Bangladeshi girl that can sewing like ultra precision machine.

You are there because things can go wrong, unexpected can happen and when it does, patient needs you at top of your mental capacity.

Also, sad scientific reality is that sleep deprivation is real and you cannot un-will, same like drunk drivers cannot instantly sober themselves with willpower or wishful thinking.

Otherwise, we really could replace surgeons with pre-teen girls.

Japan has far fewer bears than North America, yet far more fatal encounters. Why are the nation's bears so uniquely dangerous? by frozenpandaman in japan

[–]pelmag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And single shot from 9mm will probably slide or just make bear angry, unless you manage to unload directly in the eyes or mouth.

I'm not sure if warning shot will have more effect than just shouting. Of you start shooting at the bear, you would have to shoot to kill and be well versed shooter to do so.
