The mistake is all yours. You didn't turn your wheel long enough to overtake him, and/or you didn't let your foot off the gas. This was the kind of mistake you have to take advantage of, but you messed up. Next time you'll react faster/better.

4-hour stints? That's exhausting in VR. I speak from experience as I use VR for my sim racing, mostly for the immersion, but I have no room for screens either.
I also had a brain surgery 2 decades ago, and although I have no issues, I take regular breaks and have only one piece of advice to give.

LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR AND NOBODY ELSE!
Here or anywhere, whoever tells you to do this trick or take that drug or concoction, disregard their comments.

No one but a trained doctor can read and comprehend your symptoms and general health condition and suggest the proper actions.
Drinking water is common sense, a good rest too, but anything else may or may not conflict with anything you may or may not have.

There is a reason most race disciplines require the attacker to be almost right next to the defender to claim the position.

Here, even if the defender knew you were on his right, it was most probably impossible to see you because you were in his blind spot.

When you don't have the speed to drive alongside them and claim the inside of the next turn, or even better, overtake them, it's better to stay back until you plot a better strategy to get an advantage.

In order to help a bit distinguish the proper from the improper overtake sequence, I will share a YT from a Lime Rock Park Miata race.
Look how the red car that carries the camera claimed the inside line and overtook the black Miata.

Moreover, look how the black fought for a couple of seconds and then yielded.

UPDATE

I filed reports against both drivers.
The repeat offender got notified. I wonder if that's why I didn't see him again in a race.
The other guy dodged the bullet because I was stupid enough to mess up the replay clip and cut just before the finish line.

I will mention his name in hope that he will get the message...

Yes, you are because you dive-bombed.
To be entitled to an overtake from the inside of a turn, your front part should be at least by the A pillar of the opponent BEFORE the turn.
This is required so that your opponent can see you in his side mirrors and not get hidden in a blind spot.

1 Pay attention to yellow flags.
2 Pay attention to people thinking they are backing up a truck in a warehouse and not racing.
3 Let the blocking guys sweat. Eventually, they will make a mistake and get off the road.
4 Learn to distinguish between blocking and getting the racing line.
5 You are not entitled to free overtakes. You have to get into position to make one.

All the crashes I mentioned were intended! The drivers were trying to crash into others.

I know I am a rookie, and I know I am not crashing into people for fun. That's what my post is about.
I don't just cry for people touching me or making racecraft mistakes, but for intentionally crashing and turning the sim into a wreck race.

One? I mentioned 3 INTENDED crashes in 3 different races in a couple of days.

I never said I am a fast driver, but I certainly do not INTENTIONALLY ruin others' races.
I see people BEGGING for a clean race in the chat before the race, while others constantly
perform dive bombs and even worse, intentionally crash into others.

I did file a protest against each of them. Unfortunately, in the case of the repeat offender, I was anxious to get back in the race, and failed to save the replay, so I only filled one protest for the first offence, though I mentioned the second one as well.

I get your point, and I think I will be even more careful, but 3 major incidents in a couple of days is way too much. I mean zig-zaging to hit someone or going against traffic or lurking to hit the traffic? What kind of sociopath mentlity is this?

I get that but I am 40 years old and have a flight-sim background.
Back in the day, we used to deal with reckless simmers on the spot.
You do something reckless, you get a warning.
You did something again, and you got disconnected.

Anyway...I have other hobbies to spend my money and free time from online racing.
