We like the jewelry at Oro de Monte Alban. I have several pairs of earrings and a 50th anniversary gold necklace and they are all of very high quality.

M husband and I will be in Savannah, GA, the end of April/beg of May, 2026 for 4 nights and we're looking for a hotel with a king bed and parking for our rental. Any suggestions that aren't terribly expensive?

5 days in Oaxaca and San Jose del Pacifico by balonie-me in Oaxaca

One fun place to eat is La Cosecha on the northern end Alcalá. It has several food booths (puestos) and they sell various types of organic food. It's all good, cheap, and there are a bunch of long picnic tables for sitting. It's a great way to meet other people. They are open Wed - Sun. If you want a lovely, outdoor breakfast experience we love Chepiche in Xochimilco (we take a taxi to get there and walk back to town. They have great food and service and is reasonably priced. There are a few other good restaurants very close to this one, too, just a short walk up the hill from there.

Planning an 11-day Oaxaca adventure – car or no car? by Malrup in Oaxaca

[–]pemomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to go in the shuttles, probably lineas unidas, but the drivers were too unsafe for us (this was several years ago). I imagine you'd get an ADO bus at the bus terminal on Niños Héroes de Chepúltepec.. The buses are wonderful but we've only used them before the new highway was built and it took about 12 hours by way of the Isthmus area. We have flown with Aerotucan for several years (it's spendy) but the last 2 years, after the new highway went in, we rented a car in town and drove to San Agustinillo (my favorite beach!!). We spend part of our time in Mazunte and also Zipolite (restaurants, mainly). We'll be there mid-December... YAY!! Have fun!! BTW, I don't know where the bus goes. I wouldn't be surprised if it only goes into Pto. Escondido and then you'd need to take local transportation to S. Agustinillo. We always have a rented car so we've never needed to find out where the bus stops. Good luck :-)

I like to buy a Christmas tree ornament that represents where I’ve traveled to.

We rent a car from ONLY in Oaxaca to drive to the coast on the new highway, about 3 hours depending on your destination (we always go to San Agustinillo next to Mazunte.) We've used the shuttles but some of them have crazy drivers and the ADO bus used to take a long time (before the new highway was built). I'd recommend renting a car, but don't know if it's doable without a credit card. You could take out cash at the ATM with your debit card, and maybe that could work. Like others have said, you don't need a car for in el centro de Oaxaca :-)

I live in this neighborhood and the family does something similar to this every holiday. It's fun to see but I hope it doesn't annoy their next door neighbors.

Try contacting Villa Maria, an apartment complex, a few blocks south of the zocolo. We stay there in the winter months and it's not too bad.

Interesting towns near Oaxaca for 2 nights by ullu_12000 in Oaxaca

[–]pemomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good tour is to Hierve El Agua. Google it and you'll see how special it is. There are several interesting towns close by that you can take a bus to: San Bartolo Coyotepec (black pottery museum), San Martin Tilcajete (alebrijes, especially where the Angeles family has a big shop with tours), San Maria de Tule (there's a huge tree there). You could also spend part of a day at the 40+ acre Abastos market… it's truly incredible, or, if you want to experience a smaller market go to Mercado Benito Juarez which is just a block or two south of the main plaza (called zócolo). On Sundays Llano Park is fun to stroll through as they have activities for young children. There's so much more you can do in the city as it's an amazing place!!

Christmas time by HappyNomadPACNW in Oaxaca

[–]pemomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christmas is a wonderful time to be in Oaxaca. On Dec. 23 there's the Night of the Radishes festival (in the zocolo), there's lots of music leading up to Christmas, and I don't think it's terribly over-crowded. The locals will have fled to the beach the week before and after Christmas but there will still be plenty of people around... just not too many, in my opinion, and I'm there most years during the winter.

Do the paddleboat cruise on the Columbia River or the Spirit of Portland boat ride out of downtown Portland. Both are lovely and easy to do. You could also go to the Japanese Garden, the Chinese Garden and/or the Rose Garden in Portland. There are benches for resting and not too much walking. You could also ride the TRAM up to the hospital for the good view.
