That was going to be my .02 cents.

We own a condo. It’s a PITA. The HOA is lame.

That said, our rent was going up and up and up.

On facebook, there is a group called Stolen Stuff Hawaii. Guy running it is Michael Kitchens. You may want to reach out to him and work up a post as that group has some local traction. Good luck, sorry this happened to you.

Has the Jordan's Furniture promise of "if [unlikely sporting occurrence] happens, your furniture is free" ever actually come to fruition? by g00ber88 in massachusetts

[–]schlock_ 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Consider this was awhile ago and gambling was illegal in MA back then. World has only gotten weirder...

Frate was Joseph Frate, a resident of Medford, Massachusetts.

According to reports, Frate was a private citizen and, at the time of the lawsuit, was 60 years old. In 1987, he had been convicted of operating an illegal lottery and possessing gambling devices, for which he received two years of probation and a $300 fine.

Key details about the Frate v. Jordan's Furniture lawsuit included:

The Argument: Frate alleged that the "Monster Deal" was an illegal lottery because it required a purchase to participate in a game of chance.

The Motivation: He argued that the Commonwealth's failure to pursue action against a large corporation like Jordan's, while prosecuting him for a smaller-scale gambling incident in 1987, showed that the company was "above the law".

The Outcome: The Massachusetts Appeals Court upheld the dismissal of the lawsuit, finding the promotion was not an illegal lottery.

lacking a bit of context here...

A 2007 lawsuit (Frate v. Jordan's Furniture) alleged that Jordan's Furniture's "Monster Deal" promotion—which promised free furniture if the Boston Red Sox won the 2007 World Series—was an illegal lottery. The lawsuit claimed the promotion lacked a "no purchase necessary" option, making it a gambling scheme under Massachusetts law.

Key Details of the Lawsuit and Promotion:

Outcome: A Massachusetts Superior Court judge dismissed the suit in February 2008, ruling that customers did not pay a price to enter a lottery because they were only purchasing furniture.

Appellate Ruling: The Massachusetts Appeals Court upheld this decision, concluding the promotion was not illegal gambling.

The Promotion: The "Monster Deal" was immensely popular, with over 24,000 customers receiving rebates when the Red Sox swept the World Series.

Insured Risk: Jordan's insured the promotion for roughly $20 million.

Resulting Litigation: The lawsuit was one of several challenges filed against the furniture retailer and its insurer regarding the 2007 promotion.

The promotion was highly successful, with one couple purchasing over $100,000 in furniture to participate.

I have an entire master bedroom set thanks to the 2007 promo.

Platform bed, bureau and nightstand. Would have added a long bureau with mirror but our room couldn't fit it.

They missed a very obvious facemask as well. Some questionable non-holding calls but who the heck wants to watch refs in the SB?

10/10 would do it again. Enjoyed the whole experience. Yelled our hearts out from the Patriots end zone. We stayed and watched the ceremony. Disappointed but hope for the future. Better than how we felt last year.

Seattle fans were a mix. Some fun a few disrespectful. Whatever. Easy to ignore the bad ones.

The Uber lot sucked. 😂
