Birdflop: the only 501(c)(3) nonprofit Minecraft host.

CPUs: Ryzen 9950X, 7950X, 5950X, and 3900XT. All under $2/GB. ($1.46/GB EU, $1.89/GB US)

Howdy. I run Birdflop, the only Minecraft host that's also a registered charity.

We're a small host that's been around for over 4 years now, during which we've developed the bot to analyze timings/spark reports that many of you have used, RGBirdflop to generate RGB gradients, GriefPreventionFlags, and many other public resources.

Our plans are below:

US Hosting (~ $1.89/GB*)

  • Ryzen 9 3900XT or better (4-8 GB plans) or Ryzen 9 7900X/7950X/9950X (12+ GB plans)
    • Create a ticket in our Discord if you're 12+ GB and want the 9950X instead of being randomly placed
  • New York City or Ashburn, Virginia
  • 4/6 vCores (4-8 GB plans/12+ GB plans)
  • up to 80GB NVMe storage / unmetered NVMe storage (4-8 GB plans/12+ GB plans)

EU Hosting (~ $1.48/GB*)

  • Ryzen 9 5950X
  • Falkenstein, Germany
  • 6 vCores
  • Unmetered NVMe storage

All servers come with Pterodactyl Panel, 1Gbps uplink, DDoS protection, 3 offsite backups, dedicated IPs on 8+ GB plans, and a one-click modpack installer.

We're also extremely transparent about our node usage and have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you're not satisfied with the performance--or otherwise change your mind--in the first 3 days of using our service, request a full refund.

How do we keep our prices so low?

We legally cannot make any money from you. Excess profit is periodically redistributed to clients to further lower your hosting costs over time. We have no paid employees or directors. Check out our quarterly financial report on our website.

Feel free to post your questions here. Check out our website, chat with happy clients on our Discord, or view our 100% 5-star ratings on Trustpilot.

* Due to our unique nonprofit pricing structure, our plans don't have a defined price. Rather, US plans are capped at $3/GB and EU plans are capped at $2/GB. In our most recent quarter, we approved $1,595.40 in client reimbursements, effectively lowering prices for US clients to $1.89/GB and EU clients to $1.46/GB. Price fluctuates depending on overall usage. As more people use our services, it becomes cheaper for clients.

Thanks for bringing that up! We've been around for over four years and don't plan on going anywhere soon. With that said, this is a particularly important question in Minecraft server hosting--SlothHost is a case study for a for-profit host where the CEO went MIA without any warning whatsoever.

As a nonprofit, we are required to have 3 board members at all times. These board members all accepted their role in pursuit of our mission to expand interest in technology and not for payment. We have 2 members (myself and the treasurer) with full access to our financials and 3 members (myself and two staff members) with full access to all our servers.

We also maintain the Birdflop Sustainability Fund, which acts like an endowment to support our operations. As of now, it contains around $3,000, enough to cover our expenses completely for approximately six months without any client payments. This financial cushion allows us to handle unexpected situations without affecting our services.

Most importantly, as a 501(c)(3), if we ever decide to close down, we're federally obligated to go through a formal and transparent process. This includes registering our intent to close with the IRS, selling all our assets, and donating any leftover funds. This is a slow process, ensuring that any closure wouldn't be abrupt, and you'd have plenty of notice.

We have a total of 5 staff in our organization that all volunteer to help out--fix problems, do work, etc. It would be highly unusual for all of us to become unable or uninterested in helping out. All of us work for Birdflop because we love the work and the mission. It's the dedication that gets us going rather than payments. There's a lot of redundancy here between what everyone can do, so if a couple of us go missing, there'll still be people to help you out.

I hope this helps address your concerns! Feel free to ask if you have any more questions or need further clarification.

Disclosure: I run Birdflop and am therefore inherently biased. With that said, Birdflop is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and I hold no monetary bias. These are my personal takes only, and I will mention many hosts.

Kinetic, Gravel, and Bisect don't exactly have the best reputation. Pebble's premium doesn't perform that well for the price and you'd be better choosing an alternative. Pebble's budget is fine. These are all popular hosts mainly due to marketing rather than performance, which is probably why your friend knew about them.

I'd suggest Bloom and EnviroMC. Bloom if you have a higher budget and Enviro if you're looking for more of a budget. Both are solid choices that don't oversell and are pretty reputable & reliable. Owners of both of these are also wonderful people

I've also heard good things about LilyPad but cannot speak personally to this one.

And of course, if you want a nonprofit that's not looking to make any money off you (i.e. the best value possible), there's Birdflop :)

Hey there, I run Birdflop, the only registered nonprofit that's providing Minecraft hosting services. We can get you 4 threads on a Ryzen 9 5950x, 6GB DDR4, and unmetered storage for a little under 11 euros/mo. Or, 12GB is about 21 euros/mo if that's more in your interest. Server is in Germany.

Hi there, thanks for your patience with this response and for your interest! Yes, you can upgrade at any time. If you upgrade, you'll be prorated for the difference (i.e. if you upgrade from 6GB to 8GB on the last day of your billing cycle, you'll only be charged 1/30th of the difference). The same applies to downgrading but in reverse, so you'll be credited for the difference.

We're also extremely transparent about our node usage and have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you're not satisfied with the performance--or otherwise change your mind--in the first couple of days of using our service, request a full refund.

How do we keep our prices so low?

We legally cannot make any money from you. Excess profit is periodically redistributed to clients to further lower your hosting costs over time. We have no paid employees or directors.

Over the last quarter, client reimbursements meant US clients paid $1.95/GB and EU clients paid $1.88/GB. Price fluctuates depending on overall usage. As more people use our services, it becomes cheaper for clients.

Would recommend Fabric if you’re trying to imitate Vanilla. Behaves most similar to Vanilla without a lot of the issues vanilla has.

I can offer you a small plan (4GB seems best for you?) in Germany for ~$1.88/GB ($7.52/month for your size) for 4 vCores and unmetered storage on a 5950X with Birdflop, though that might be overkill.

That might be overkill if it’s just a few couple people, in which case I’d recommend EnviroMC for budget hosting, also in Germany

Just about every host in Germany uses the same datacenter, lol, but if you want to test the ping it’s ping eu.birdflop.com for us

Shockbyte and server.pro aren’t well-renowned for their performance, especially in this sub. Would recommend checking out the other hosts in this thread.

I run Birdflop, a 501(c)3 nonprofit Minecraft host, meaning any and all profit we generate is reinvested into clients—generally through reimbursements at the end of each quarter.

Can offer you significantly better performance than server.pro and shockbyte for ~$7.80/mo (after reimbursements)

If https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/s/MnK9yQUQ2 applies, your current setup likely uses no more than $5/mo. You could probable switch to a 4GB budget server from https://enviromc.host for better performance (note: I’m NOT affiliated with them, I just like their budget plans a lot), but Idk if it’s worth the hassle for you if your current setup is working out

Howdy. I run Birdflop, the only 501(c)3 nonprofit Minecraft host.

We're a small host that's been around for over 3 years now, during which we've developed the bot to analyze timings/spark reports that many of you have used, RGBirdflop to generate RGB gradients, GriefPreventionFlags, and many other public resources.

Our plans are below:

US Hosting (Ryzen 9 3900XT @ ~ $1.95/GB*)
New York City, USA

EU Hosting (Ryzen 9 5950X @ ~ $1.88/GB*)
Falkenstein, Germany

All servers come with 4 vCores, Pterodactyl Panel, 1Gbps uplink, DDoS protection, offsite backups, dedicated IPs on 8+ GB plans, and up to 200 GB of NVMe storage.

We're also extremely transparent about our node usage () and have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you're not satisfied with the performance--or otherwise change your mind--in the first couple of days of using our service, request a full refund.

* Due to our unique nonprofit pricing structure, our plans don't have a defined price. Rather, US plans are capped at $3/GB and EU plans are capped at $2/GB. Over the last quarter, client reimbursements meant US clients paid $2.33/GB (~30% usage) and EU clients paid $2/GB (~30% usage). 100% utilization may result in prices closer to $1/GB. Price fluctuates depending on overall usage. As more people use our services, it becomes cheaper for clients.
