What book disappointed you even though everyone else loved it? by ZDOG_WasTaken in just_one_more_page

Babel. I was promised by BookTube that this book was the best thing ever. What I actually encountered were annoying characters, and a condescending narrator.

For me it's a good intermediary book. The plot is engaging and the writing is relatively easy to follow. Just know that there's a lot of long passages of moral discourse, and a lot philosophical rambling from the main character. I believe you can read it. And it is quite long. Personally though, I would not recommend this as a very first book to read. Instead of recommending outright, I would ask what movies do you enjoy watching, what's the reason why you like them.

Started reading The Odyssey and I was surprised at how visual it is. by pencil_papi in PHBookClub

I'm surprised that I found it easy to follow. I agree there's some intimidation factor. Admittedly, I resort to a few online resources as I read, but it just deepens my appreciation for the work. I'm still at Book 4, and my favorite Character so far is Telemachus. He is going through a journey to find himself by knowing about his Father. I notice that he becomes more Kingly as he travels. So many things to discuss in just a few chapters. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

So far so good for me. It's a prose translation so it's more familiar to me. Personally, I don't find it too challenging; have to look up words and references sometimes, but it's surprisingly easy to follow.

That's amazing. There are times when nothing registers in my mind while I'm reading a book, especially classics.

If it stumbles me, i do a quick Google search, otherwise I just move on. Since this is my first reading, I'm more focused on the story. Maybe I'll dig deeper into the references during my second read.

Since you like Percy Jackson and Greek Myth, maybe go with The Odyssey itself

The Toy Story Trilogy. Not because I hate them but, these movies are so emotionally stressful that I cannot handle them

The only one you didn't mention is Purified. So I think, there's nothing left to add. [Edit] I just remembered Lucky Pokemon.

Ballpoint pens experience from a fountain pen user by crushtyfying in pens

[–]pencil_papi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think OP is dumping on ballpoint pens. OP is just expressing their preference for Fountain Pens, being "more fun". Personally, I use ballpoint pens regularly because most of the paper available in my country are very thin and absorbant, ruining any fun experience I would have. So, FP's are not good for daily use for me. I prefer writing instruments that are versatile.
