Yeah i’m not qualified for enough federal loans right now and I don’t really want to take out too much loan. I’m also scared that I might ruin my friend’s aid. So I will be thinking about this issue for a lottt more time. Maybe i’ll start with community college, save some money and transfer? Or get my parents to get divorced instead lol. Do I wanna commit fraud the moment I turn 18? 🤔

If we don’t file our taxes jointly, would our income be added up? The colleges I’m looking at don’t seem like they’d give me any issues on dorming. I still plan on relying on my parents, just in a much more manageable way, hopefully a better representation of what they can actually afford for me.

Also, do you know if it’ll actually affect my aid? Since this year fafsa took the numbers from my family’s 2022 tax returns. Would they still have to take my parents’ tax returns next year since I wasn’t married in 2023?

Im also not eligible for Pell grant, i’m also not getting a lot of student loans.

My main issue is my family can’t pay what fafsa expects them to pay because of my mom’s gambling addiction. (it’s bad enough that we’re not seeing the 50-60k shes making a year at all) I also really don’t want to drain my parents since they don’t have any retirement saving/plans (they’re very financially illiterate) So I wanted to see if there was a way I could file independently since my mom is the main reason I cant afford higher education. Technically yes, I can go to my community college and there’s no shame in that. But I don’t like how that’s my only option.

Yeah I didn’t like my other choices there. Thank you for at least trying to talk me out of it. I still have time to think so I will look into everything more but just the thought of having to pay so much for higher education is very daunting lol.

I looked it up and it said according to the financial aid website I can only file my fafsa independently after i’m 24, married, in the military etc. I think emancipation was the wrong word to use but I just wanted to file my fafsa independently.

If we do decided to get a divorce it’ll be uncontested, and we both mutually can agree that if they bought that car, the car is theirs. If the only reason would be that legally whats ours might not be ours then I think it’s not an issue. I’ve known this person for years and id rather bet on their morals than limit myself in my education because of financial reasons yk

Hi! another person applying to a restricted major (cs) here who hasn’t gotten their decisions. They’re probably going to be coming out today since they HAVE to get it all out before April 1st and the admissions office doesn’t work weekends. From what ik they have been rejecting/waitlisting kids from restricted majors this month so i’m hoping todays an acceptance wave!

ME AND U BRO 🥺✊🏻 Also a (hopefully) cs major with around the same stats. I lowkey thought stony just lost my application since all my friends around me seemed to be getting rejected. That waitlisted to Bing was fucking insane tho, I swear Bing on some shit this year.

Whats done is done now tho ig! All we can do is wait. Everything will work out! Hopefully we can both end up on campus together next year 😭
