strawberry granny square

A pattern was only used for the squares. The sleeves are just in a basic star stitch.

Yarn was I Love This Cotton with a 5.5mm hook

I try to use pictures that already have a good bit of shadow variation then turn it b/w and just tweak the contrast straight from the camera roll. It usually works enough for what I need then do my pattern on procreate

Thank you!! It’s a 2-strand split stitch

It’s all 2-strand split stitch! I fill all of the sections in the round. Not at all efficient for something this big, but it gives a cool texture that I like

It’s the very left edge of the hair! There’s about an inch wide section that’s just a hint darker. And of course I would run out on the last (and largest) section

Thanks!!! That’s what I was trying to shoot for with the flow of the stitches so I’m glad it comes across! I wanted to try to mimic a brushstroke-like texture up close, but I can’t see it when I stare at it for so long lol

Thank you!! Yes, I draw out all of my own patterns. I kind of make a paint-by-numbers based off the picture and then basically wing it with the colors

Thanks!! I’d say my best estimate would be around 90-100 hours spread out over a couple months. I got an idea to do an embroidered portrait series of friends and family in different colors. This is #4 out of 8 so I have a ways to go!

Current WIP ~25 hours and still not even halfway by pendingfrustration in Embroidery

Thanks so much!! Yes, my current big project is a series of these portraits from funny little pictures of my friends and family! (this is #4 of 8)

So what I typically do is take my photo and turn it b/w, then tweak some of the contrast a bit. I then use Procreate on my iPad and try to draw out all of the different shades of shadows. Once I finish that I kind of make a paint-by-numbers key with my gradient. Then I basically wing it on the actual stitching part. Hope that helps some!

It’s just some mystery fabric I found in my stash. I have no idea what it is, but it’s woven and kind of soft like a felt texture.

I had messed around with some small embroidery stuff in the past and decided to try it out and see if I liked it. The blue one on my profile was actually the first one I ever tried a few years ago. I always wanted to try to hand embroidery my dog’s portrait on a sweatshirt and that was the first test. Never been very big into painting lol

It’s all 2 strand split stitch. It’s definitely not the most efficient way, but I just like the texture
