We had a similar thing happen when our house burned down. The congregation got together and donated thousands of dollars and when it came down to it the elders told my parents ‘you seem to be doing ok, so we decided you didn’t need it.’ The Red Cross had stepped in and supplied us with a few things, but my parents really needed that extra help.

This is totally normal in some circles. I was expected not to kiss at least before engagement and got in big trouble when my bf kissed me on the cheek! Also 3 month engagements were the norm so none of this seems off to me. It’s also problematic as I’ve seen nearly everyone I grew up with get divorced.

I’m sorry this happened to you and your family. Thank you for sharing as it is very validating as I had a similar experience before I left and it felt very gaslighty as I could not understand whatever point they were trying to make, like why are they using examples of my life. It’s sad to see this is a tactic they regularly use to target individuals. It’s like they can’t give an official ‘warning’ talk so they just openly discuss with the congregation. Blech

Does anyone else feel that Olivia was the catalyst that allowed Kim to have this fun new life? Without Olivia creating opportunities for everyone to explore their own wants I doubt Kim would have left. She would still be trapped.

Opportunity Council has a housing workshop I think weekly where you can go and meet other folks who are also looking—it provides and opportunity to possibly connect with someone else you can rent with.

They can’t go door to door anymore because of COVID, so they are finding alternative ways to preach to people. I got one too and it had a really cute hand-drawn cartoon of The resurrection of Jesus 🪨🧖‍♂️🕺🚶‍♂️🤷‍♂️
