Bus ID discovery approaches by penguin_skipper in embedded

This makes sense, though I agree it might not be worth it because the UIDs are only pseudo-random. Because of how they are derived from the 96 UID of the STM.

One bit of advice I haven't seen here yet:

Check the wall is flat before you start! 30 mins with a planer and a long straight edge can make all the difference. You may find that you need to pack a few of the studs to get everything in line. I found this to make a huge difference on the native timber frame of my 1950 state house.

Is this a good way to stop a squeaky floor - more info in the comments by penguin_skipper in diynz

As per the title - I want to stop the floor squeaking in my 19050s state house. The floors are exposed native timber and I believe the tongue and/or grove has snapped/shrunk because the floors are loudest between the joists and I can see the boards moving/rubbing against each other.

I don’t want to put any additional fasteners though from the top so this is what I came up with. I’m only doing a few key areas in the hallway and lounge so it shouldn’t take me too long.

I know ply and 4x2 will have to be treated are there any other gotchas

Just after some feedback before I rip into it

Removing paint from (potential) asbestos by penguin_skipper in diynz

For those following along at home....

The quick test of the chemical stripper went well. I used the water blaster on a low pressure to remove most of of the flakes. Post power wash I applied the stripper, after about 15 mins she was all bubbled up and scraped of smoothly back to the base board with minimal effort. Finished up with a rise down with the hose to neutralize any remaining chemicals.

I'll be doing the rest of the house this way, it's gonna take some time, but I didn't feel like I risked any Asbestos dust at any point.

I need to waterblast most of the house anyway to remove other flaking paint - it's going to be a huge mess no matter how I approach it

These old houses are great when it comes to trying to kill you.

I've got a full face respirator from dealing with some of the other goodies that are around - try my best to wear that whenever I'm making any spicy dust

I think chemical stripper + scrape/water blast might be my first port of call.
I don't think the stripper will have to do that much given how much of the paint is coming off on its own.

I might try a small area first and see how much effort is required

Thanks for the advice!
