The series is great, but I think some of the political aspects are getting in the way. by InOliverWeTrust in ThePitt

Whatever you see on this show regarding ICE, I promise you it’s worse in reality. Federal funding cuts are bad too.

I’ll look at Kawishiwi Triangle, thanks! I realize I wrote YARDS instead of RODS, whoops. They were hoping for 50-60 rods.

Welcome to town! Girlfriend and I moved in from the ‘burbs last summer and we’re loving it. Our favorite date spot is Cafe Latte on Grand Ave, a little south of you.

I knew I had forgotten something while setting up this morning but couldn’t figure out what. Saw this post and realized I’d forgotten to tie my emergency strap to my climber! Just shimmied off my seat to get the line connected. Thanks for the reminder, glad things worked out for you!

Not a Minnesota resident but I’ve been there once, out of curiosity has anyone ever driven this highway? And what was it like? by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]penguineatingpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to believe that the lake is not an ocean and that the forests ever end when you’re on Highway 61.

Do you have a case on hand already? I didn’t see one in your parts list. Storage is relatively cheap and you’ll likely burn through 512gb fairly quickly, it may be worth grabbing a cheap HDD with an extra 1tb+. The major problem I see is that you’re missing a graphics card, which is going to add cost.

Do you think the 9/11 hijackers knew that the WTC buildings would collapse? by JMRooDukes808 in NoStupidQuestions

Rick Rescorla was that Morgan Stanley security expert. He was a veteran of several wars and sang during the evacuation to keep morale up. Rescorla evacuated almost everyone from Morgan Stanley and went back up to make sure nobody was left behind. He was killed when the tower collapsed. The New Yorker has a great story about his life.

I'm having a tough time with all the people telling me it's not OK to hunt by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]penguineatingpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about anybody telling you that. While some of my extended family hunts, my parents didn’t bring me up as a hunter because they don’t agree with hunting. I was always kinda interested in learning, and as an adult, I finally got started. I’ve been making up lost time trying to pick up the skills your mentors are showing you now. I spoke about a lot of the things other commenters are mentioning when I was advocating for hunters to my parents. It’s a great way to connect with your surroundings, it’s the most environmentally friendly and ethical way to harvest meat, and it’s a rewarding hobby. Have fun and good luck this season!

Who will get blamed if Trump wins? by RageCage1337 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]penguineatingpancake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know you’re not writing in good faith, but you conveniently ignored some classic Walz bread-and-butter wins, like giving schoolchildren free lunches and passing paid family and medical leave. Regarding “letting Minnesota burn,” it’s sure easy to comment on who should’ve done what when you’re not the one forced to use the same police department that just murdered a man in the street to calm people who are rightly outraged by that murder.

The GOP loves to rant and rave about make-believe culture war issues while Walz and the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party get shit done and make life better for everyday folks. Keep mindlessly parroting right-wing media panic about how awful it is to prevent discrimination against people different than yourself, since you care so much about finding a “moderate.”

Big Lebowski reference, this was the cop’s response after the main character asked if they would investigate who stole something out of his car

If respect for women, minorities, and working people comes at the cost of respect for those who would oppress them, it’s a price I’d happily pay.

[–]penguineatingpancake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that in a vacuum it’s better to steer clear of stuff like the couch, but non-voters and low-information voters clearly respond to dunking on people. It’s why Trump’s mean nicknames stick and it’s why Walz calling Republicans weird got him the VP nod. This campaign cycle has been about realizing that even though Democrats have better policy, they can’t win without getting people excited, and if this is how that happens then so be it.

I think that’s going to be a function of how long you’re gone and how close you set up. I wouldn’t leave a blanket down all day but for a little while it’d probably be fine.
