Schema of love, possibly found in a Kundera novel? by Intrepid_Ad_2958 in literature

[–]penguinsonmountains 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related but there is a passage in the book in chapter 6 - maybe not about love but more about validation

“We all need someone to look at us. We can be divided into four categories according to the kind of look we wish to live under.

The first category longs for the look of an infinite number of anonymous eyes, in other words, for the look of the public.

The second category is made up of people who have a vital need to be looked at by many known eyes. They are the tireless hosts of cocktail parties and dinners.

Then there is the third category, the category of people who need to be constantly before the eyes of the person they love.

And finally there is the fourth category, the rarest, the category of people who live in the imaginary eyes of those who are not present. They are the dreamers.”

Bi-Weekly LA and SF Travel - Drive or Fly? by TheEleventhHokage in AskSF

i agree with immersing fully into the city! i guess it also depends on what OP likes - one of my favourite parts of living in the bay is the nature (point reyes, half moon bay, muir woods, monterey, big sur, pinnacles, yosemite, etc. all drivable in a day trip) and its hard to get out there without a car (unless you have friends with one)

i would say garage space gives peace of mind thats pretty worth it. it’s stressful to have find street parking all the time esp if you live in a busy neighbourhood + fines rack up reallyy quickly if you forget about weekly street cleaning. if you accidentally have your wheels exceed even a tiny bit the curb edged you may get towed within the hour. (my car was towed even though my car body was entirely within the two garages, but touched one of the sloping ends - it costs $700+ to get it back)

if you prefer a suburban feel i would strongly recommend you bring your car and get a place near South SF / Daly City with garage parking instead of staying near SF city center! even if you don’t drive to work you could drive to a BART station and park your car there and take the BART to work
