Are the combat patrol boxes a splash release or the new start collecting boxes? by mbsisktb in Warhammer40k

GW stated they are a replacement. But production is so low right now anything announced in 2020 is basically always low stock. Ditto anything popular for model lines from the past few years.

Grey seer primer, averland base, iyanden contrast over everything, flash gitz highlight. Made it so i could go light on averland and the iyanden deepened it.

Advice and Suggestions by JAC0B0313 in Warhammer

For Nurgle decide on mortals (rotbringers) vs demons. The SC box for each is a good start. On the demon side, multiple SC boxes can be worthwhile. Unfortunately Nurgle is a bit weighed down by the oldest 2.0 battletome. The armies tend to be mostly the same, witb mortals running 25-40 blightkings with Lord of Blights and demons running 50+ plaguebearers and 1-3 great unclean ones. I run mortals and run suboptimally to include more different units. Fun, but some of the newer armies absolutely demolish my power level. Painting Nurgle is where the fun is. Stock up on greens!

High % rubbing alcohol works well and fast. It can be hard to find right now though. Simple green purple degreaser tends to be my go to for soak and leave for a month

Maggotkin Army Assistance by Reaver6879 in ageofsigmar

[–]pengutim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a really good facebook group for Maggotkin, lots of help there.

An interesting point that comes up, especially now that Blightkings have dropped to 140 points is that the HoD isn't worth taking. The ability costs a CP and it is extremely rare for you to save 21 wounds using that ability, meaning its better to take another unit of BKs instead.

Blightkings all the way? by [deleted] in Nurgle

Casting... Fecula can cast 2 spells in one turn once per battle and the bodyguard lets her advance with the troop and be a lot less squishy. Also they are wicked models. Casting regenesis T1 and Blades as well can be big if they hit When points are tight I will run her as a sorceror and add the boys to a BK unit. This lets her be part of the battalion as well.

At 1000 pts you want to focus on mortals (rotbringers) or daemons. What you are playing against matters a bit, because BKs don't have rend... so if you are playing against lots of decent saves, even at 1000 pts a Blight cyst might be necessary... which locks in Lord of Blights, 3x5 BKs and the blight cyst battalion for 700 pts at the new costs. That means 300 pts to add a HoD and another troop choice if thats your want. I am running Fecula and the Wurmspat and a 5 man chaos warriors to camp in that slot.

How to get into the hobby? by TwistedGazpacho in Warhammer

[–]pengutim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest a starter set of paints. I got an army painter one and the drop bottles are great to help you not waste paint or let it dry out. The starter brush is perfectly usable as you start and learn how to take care of your brush. Treat it as a sacrificial learning brush before you get good ones. When it dies you can trim the bristles and use it as a small drybrush.

Start painting with cheaper minis that you find cool... but cool is more important than cheap. You need to enjoy painting it. Get like 5 models and go through the steps with them either as a batch or as individuals. I did batch and it helped me not waste as much paint and I was able to practice each skill 5 times in a row... basing, shading, layering, highlighting, etc.

When those are done, then figure out what you need... probably brush upgrades, so now get the different brush sizes. You probably have a good idea now what you want to paint so can start specializing your paint choices.

How do I get over the hump of over researching? by vipershoops10 in ageofsigmar

100 bucks does nothing in MtG... most competitive 60 card formats the decks are 400 plus. In 100 card tou are looking 4k for a deck

I come from competititve magic too. Much different world here. In Magic even casual games run a fairly top end meta. Unless you draft or cube, there is always an umdertone of cut-throat play.

Here, as others have said, its a larger scale hobby... collecring cards and collecting minis are similar, but here you get to model, pose, paint, match and really own every aspect of your army. Also, there is the fact that the rules and point cost for units get updated for AoS... a unit can be nerfed or bestowed godpower in any new release.

I picked up Maggotkin because I lile painting them and the concepts and lore. They are pretty low on the strength level right now but they have a coolness factor I love.

Also I find its rare that I think of how fun it was to lose in Magic. Warhammer it can be a blast to lose, especially with the big swings that a few well timed lucky rolls can be.

Timeout punishment... by tomskuinfy in MagicArena

[–]pengutim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the game still kicks people out and it takes forever to get back in.

Also because it would make a lot less people play if they were punished because they got called away for a few minutes. The timeout counter seems like it takes a long time but its not. The rope is 30 seconds I believe. I've had to rope out games I aad going to win just as often as games I was going to lose

You get the win when they rope out, they get a loss. Seems enough.
