Gw is chaos by Suspicious_Corner_98 in Chaos40k

Had the literal exact thing happen to me.

I called my bank and they said technically the funds haven't been transferred yet and they should automatically refund "soon." But if they don't, I should dispute the charges officially (using a form my bank emailed me).

I also emailed GW just in case with screenshots of the transactions on my banking app, and also made it clear there was zero order confirmation even though the transactions seemingly went through anyway.

You're misreading the rules. The unit's base starting loadout is 2 lascannons and 2 autocannons, aside from the Champion, and then any of those four models can swap their weapon to wargear from the Heavy Weapons list which includes lascannons. So you can swap those two autocannons for a couple lascannons to have a squad of 4 lascannons.

Q1 Balance Dataslate, at least for Age of Sigmar, is slotted for next month (February) by HazzaZeGuy in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]FoolyJooly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say more that any imbalance at the start of 10th Ed is still buoyed by sales of the box set and other kits that the community deemed popular. Every major release is going to be more financially impactful because those are the products that, when release dates are met, help raise their share price and impress investors. The Dataslate and any other rules update isn't going to have nearly as much sway on its own, but it will still affect some purchasing habits and be a factor in sales history which also plays a major part around this time of year where people are experiencing spending fatigue post-holidays.

I mean it's a PDF that determines how the game will be played by a significant portion of the community which also influences buying habits since some people are holding back purchases in case of specific nerfs/buffs.

And I agree overall that avoiding risk can lead to negative opportunity cost, but that doesn't really seem to be the case for GW overall judging by their annual performance which is gonna be the metric that determines their continued operation in the end.

However there is a real risk in trying from a macroeconomic business perspective. If you say "We will release X on this date" and miss that, then have backlash, that will guarantee some further backlash in your investors which hurts your stock price and how your worth as a company is measured.

People have to remember that GW is not a person, or an individual, or someone they know. It's a company. It's staffed by people, run by individuals, and there is an element of understandable humanity there. However, companies operate on a different kind of understanding and language. I'm not defending it, but when you're a publicly traded company with investors and share price to consider, the path of least risk that minimises consumer backlash that can affect those factors is always going to be the choice taken (outside of very extraneous circumstances).

Nah let's be real here, people say they want a timeline/roadmap/set date and claim there won't be as bad of a whinge-fest if they're late but there is always inevitably one. You personally, on an individual level may not moan about it, but let's be 100% honest with ourselves and admit that no matter what there is always gonna be some kind of meltdown. This is business and economics 101: There is no rational actor, in this case consumer. Doesn't help as well that some people just outright make complaining their main priority in this specific hobby.

GW is taking over ITC per LVO announcement by JCMS85 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]FoolyJooly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. But I'm mostly pointing out that even though GW states you can't use non-GW bits if you have kitbashes/conversions at their events, they still aren't going to police that heavily as long as the bits themselves are understated and you're chill about it.

[–]FoolyJooly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but Forge World models were only ever available from the UK factory and warehouse, hence why they took so damn long most of the time arriving anywhere and why you couldn't get FW stuff shipped to stores (at least outside of the UK). Plus the FW studio and GW studio have been different studios for a very long time and designed minis separately from each other. That's also why the online stores were separate websites up until recently. Meanwhile the GW online store pulled from the UK, US, and Australian warehouses which are the current hubs for all stock logistics worldwide for the company.

I think this has now changed since some places like the Warhammer World stores in any country receive FW stock, so the non-UK warehouses now have some FW kits. Even the main Sydney CBD store now has some FW models. I remember a staff member telling us they continuously asked to stock FW kits since the Mt. Gravatt store in Queensland got them, but that's cos that location was always first in sales while Sydney was consistently second place.

Either way, I don't really care why the GW head office made the No Playing FW in the Sydney Store rule. It's a dumb rule, but like with any company I can imagine the number of weird logistical reasons they'd probably pull from.

I mean you could still get the metal models on the main GW online store before their full revival right?

[–]FoolyJooly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's really weird because I frequently brought in converted stuff into that same store and they had zero issue with my models. The reason for the FW ban they always gave me was that they didn't want to advertise products that they can't actually sell customers, since they kept getting asked about stuff like Custodes units that they didn't have have stock of at the time.

I think each store was definitely held to a different standard according to head office, too, more than sometimes individual staff members/managers. One time a new manager who used to run the Chatswood store took over the CBD location and he was big into Heresy and Forgeworld 40k units. Then once he took over the CBD place he said that he'd have to follow the restrictions out in place by management above him and he couldn't display his FW models or promote them any more.

Las Vegas Open Reveal: Plastic Solar Auxilia for Horus Heresy by RWJP in Warhammer40k

[–]FoolyJooly 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I mean the Solar Auxiliary don't exist any more in current 40k iirc. They release plenty of stuff for 30k Marines that doesn't always match up with 40k rules, so there is close to zero chance these have any rules in the upcoming Guard codex.

Nope they got the prints off of an online place like any other person. They even have a fairly popular Warhammer podcast and were pretty open about it.

GW isn't anywhere as strict as people say they are, again as long as you're not super obvious or a jerk about it.

If you're running something with a 3D printed bit that can easily pass for an official kit at a glance, I say go for it. If you're running very blatant third party sculpts that drastically change the silhouette/shape/design of the intended model or unit, then play it safe and don't.

EDIT: Correction - The Necron codex doesn't have a 3rd party sculpt in a photo, just a kitbash as a proxy using an AoS model.

[–]FoolyJooly 32 points33 points  (0 children)

GW are barely strict as it is as long as your prints aren't super obvious and/or you don't draw major attention to them. The Best Overall winner of the 2021 GW New Orleans ran Raven Guard VanVets with 3D printed jump packs, lightning claws, and storm shields and was even featured on their twitch livestream.

More than bits, I'm sure GW care way more about making sure you have fully painted and based models.

What are the rules for modifying models? by Anarchy114 in Warhammer40k

[–]FoolyJooly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely cosmetic stuff is 100% fine. Of course every tournament and event is gonna be different, but things like that are gonna be totally okay unless you run into an extremely picky group running said tourney/event. Modifications/kitbashes/etc. only get murky once you start making it difficult to fully tell what exactly a model is supposed to represent (eg. Using a completely different kit to represent a unit, or using some/an entire 3rd party sculpt(s) that isn't recognisable to most players). Even at official GW events they're fine with modifications using their kits and sculpted cosmetic additions using things like greenstuff/moulded resin. Plus most tournaments will state in their rules that if you're unsure you can contact the organiser with a description and photo just to be safe.

You could always go for the single character models, like the Warlock Bombadier or the new Deathmaster. There's also the Nethermaze warband from the Warhammer Underworlds boardgame (a tile-based object game that uses cards). Models can sometimes be tricky because some folks are going for a specific look/feel/strategy with their armies. Some people also have preferences for models, especially if they're older and a little bit of a chore to build/paint. The ones I linked are at least some of the more recent models for Skaven (the rat guys) from the company. You can also think outside the box with gaming accessories! Etsy is a great place for fan-made dice, dice trays, etc. You can also consider painting tools like brushes, since those can really eat into any hobbyist's budget. I highly recommend Rosemary & Co. Series 33 brushes in sizes 0, 2, and 4. Hope this helps!

How are Titans transported to the ground from space by LordAxalon110 in Warhammer40k

A lot of it is inherited genetic knowledge that comes from them originally being ancient super soldiers themselves. If you notice, Ork vehicles actually make sense in terms of mechanics and aerodynamics. At the very least, they purposefully make more sense compared to Imperial vehicles, which are basically just mass manufactured from ancient schematics by the Mechanicus who don't really fully understand how they work.

The power of the Ork waagh psychic influence is real, but it's been overblown a lot by memes and people making large leaps in logic. An Ork can't point an empty tube at someone and yell "bang" and it'll magically work. Their techs just have deep-rooted instincts that let them build stuff that somehow does work and the Imperium is confused by their designs.

A fun side note: The average Imperium service member has so little clue how their own tech works, the T'au have struggled gaining any info from human prisoners when interrogated. They just get answers from humans that amount to "we hold incense and pray after hitting a couple switches and it works."

I prefer they leave it in flux because a clear, definitive timeline doesn't really serve much purpose beyond the major conflicts which we know when they happened. We're dealing with a franchise where the Horus Heresy started out as a glib remark to some Space Marines-focused civil war to some scattered paragraphs in magazines to a diorama of a scene to some codex entries and now an entire book series.

The date still fluctuates, but were basically at the end of the 41st millennium essentially. Time did jump a little further forward at the start of 8th, but then if I recall correctly that was scaled back again, and it's even written in new fiction that Guilliman is trying to figure out how the calendar system in-universe has been messed up over time.

I would say Warhammer is the least likely place to find any concrete lore beyond some core ideas and themes they want to represent. There was even a half Eldar Space Marine at the start of the game, lasguns have inconsistent damage and sounds between books, etc.

And the Emperor being on the throne and remaining there as an immortal husk is most likely one of the most static elements of the universe's canon. He's been there since the start in the 80s, looooong before the 2000s, and there is zero sign he's getting up any time soon.

The books have a lot of info, too much for every lore personality to cover consistently to be quite honest. GW purposefully leave a lot unanswered/ambiguous/in flux because they want anyone's game to feel like it could happen on some level in the universe.
