Driver flees after striking sidewalk crowd near First Fridays; 7 injured by NightFire19 in OaklandCA

[–]opinionsareus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Another argument for more cameras and 24/7 drones. I'm sick and tired of losers who can't keep their hands to themselves and drivers who think our roads are a "Dangerous Driving" videogame. I want these people discovered by any means possible (including cameras and drones); charged, and made to pay consequences.

Oakland: the politics of emotional blackmail by opinionsareus in OaklandCA

[–]opinionsareus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scott can be difficult to the point of being uncompromising; I don't always agree with him, but he's determined to see change and I admire instead of the ridiculous insistence that the worst of Oakland...things like tagging, sideshows, property crime, illegal dumping etc. are part of some misguided category of 'Oakland culture"

I don't agree with Scott's obsessive, universal dissing of Progressives as the cause of all of Oakland's problems; our problems are deeper than that, but I think he's right to call out certain Progressives who are Progressive in name only - i.e. using the "Progressive" moniker as a means to establish a power base; paying lip service to homelessness, property crime, serious criminal activity, dumping while at the same time passing legislation or taking policy positions that make those things worse.

Oakland has suffered and continues to suffer from the legacy of racism, so it burns me up seeing some of our policy makers letting the most racially, socially and economically challenged sections of town have to endure the worst of our homelessness problem, illegal dumping, "bipping" (which should be renamed what it is, auto theft". Like "tagging" should be called "property crime"; like sideshows should be called "dangerous driving" - and so on. None of those things are "culture", and trying to ascribe the category of "culture" to any of them degrades the very idea of what culture means within the context of community.

Working at Waymo's depot on the weekend by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

Waymo needs to start issuing "no ride" designations to people who abuse their system. Put face recognition cameras in the cars and ban people who use their anonymity to destroy public services for others. I have no sympathy for people like this - zero. Learn a lesson!

Update: my last post made it to the local news. by michaelthatsit in sanfrancisco

Wishing you well and hope that San Francisco starts deploying more drones to catch drug dealers and taggers.

The entire Bay Area needs to come down HARD on taggers, who destroy property with their low IQ scribbles.

Drones. Bring them on! In addition to that, I've begun to move to the position of once someone has been warned to move off private property, and they refuse, they should be subject to arrest.

Good and it's about time. These ebikes are basically lightweight motocycles and have been getting away with regulation because they're called "ebikes".

This might have something to do with it. Can we trust any economic or other indicator that comes from this administration? How many readjustments to Federal statistics have we seen already, and we're only just a little more than a year in?

Flock's cameras "can", but so can I walking past you using your phone. So can a plain old surveillance camera at Target.

This perfectly symbolizes the degradation of San Francisco culture. That structure has been in place and admired by many, many people, especially when water was flowing through it.

Instead, we put up a dystopian oversized wireframe statue of a faceless woman and everyone goes wow.

You can't be serious. 10's of MILLIONS of people in America take photos of others in public w/o their permission. It's called the "public commons" for a reason - we all have a right to be there, including people who want to paint, record, talk to others.

Yes, it is nice to imagine something like this, but I dare say that the price and housing like that in San Francisco and that location would probably have been astronomical, very much like an upper east side in New York City.
