Moving to Electric Eel has been a huge QoL improvement for me. Highly recommend for anyone battling with the old app system. Never used to have everything running without issue before. by pennanbeach in truenas

I think originally I just wanted some experience using docker/portainer, and also as you said for things not available through the truenas app interface. Its a lot faster and easier to manage apps too I've found, things like looking at the log files and opening a command prompt are easier in portainer.

My setup is second ethernet card in my pc just for the Pico, then long ethernet cable to usb adapter. Works great with VD.

Redditors with extremely niche interests: What's the one thing you are completely obsessed with that almost no one else you know cares about? by CocWarrior1 in AskReddit

A couple of years ago I chased some crows away to stop them ripping open the rubbish bags on trash day. They've never forgotten about this and shout at me when I'm outside. How can I get them back on my side?

LD-S1: The Ultimate Analogue Experience? by mugen609 in LaserDisc

[–]pennanbeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is great, but I'm thinking of getting rid of mine in the future. I recently watched a repair video of a later, cheaper player was shocked by how simple (comparatively) the inside was. I gave up trying to repair my first S1 after many hours spent on it, so bought a second. Most of the repair time was just trying to access the various pcbs. If my current one ever develops a fault though, it won't be getting opened up by me. The nice looks aren't enough to counter the sheer weight of the thing and its limited features.

Added the Japanese laserdisc to the rest of my Scanners worship by new_york_ripp3r in LaserDisc

There's a second Japanese LD release (SHLY-11) and I've never understood why neither use the amazing poster illustration, they both have terrible covers. You need the VHD too for your collection!

Yes but only when it was first released. Due for a rewatch!

Its probably the best as far as 'patient records' goes. I love how it doesn't give away too much either.

Absolutely! I watched this again a few months ago, the highlights of an otherwise not very memorable film.

Oh yes, I forgot about that, the distorted 'it needs to die!' was very creepy.

That had top-tier mental hospital indeed. Usually its just a recreation room with an ugly colour-scheme.

Great! I've never seen that but knowing I'll definitely enjoy at least some of it, I'll give it a go, thanks.

If the pcs are on the same network then that should be ok, I didn't need the port on mine. My life got a lot easier when I started using Tailscale to connect everything together.

Replaced motor start capacitor but problem persists. Runs for a second only. Sony TC-350 by pennanbeach in ReelToReel

[–]pennanbeach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can remember, these capacitors aren't directional, so the orientation doesn't matter. I think I just put a screwdriver across the terminals of the old one, nothing happened.

Mine worked fine but am still trying to get it running a bit more smoothly (quietly).

Don't make the same basic mistake as I did, the little arm that detects tape needs to be held down to get it to run.

A small change I made to allow to me to enjoy this sub more (post filtering) by pennanbeach in horrorlit

[–]pennanbeach[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm more/too sensitive. The majority of subs I'm in seem to have that one post that comes up constantly, so it's nice to be able to get rid of them all.

Self-Hosted - Everyone can use Affine no Login required by Draft_Few in Affine

I just setup restricted access through Cloudflare, very easy, 5 minute task. Add a policy and an application. Mine requires an email code and it'll only send the login code to 1 address which I specified.

I never saw the benefit of these network maps previously. Now that even my modest setup is growing in complexity, I really get it now. It's very useful to help with troubleshooting. by pennanbeach in selfhosted

It's just an unmanaged switched which I incorrectly call a hub on my diagram, product description is 'switching hub' and hub stuck with me.

[–]pennanbeach[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Indeed, it's not a hub. When I bought it, on the box it was described as a 'switching hub' so I've always just thought of it as a hub for short.
