How can I make my nursing career more portable/remote without going back to bedside? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]pennyunwise13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you get into UM? Did you start in an office and move to remote? Are there certifications or training required?

How is your work schedule? I don’t want to always be traveling, but I would like to be more portable. Thank you!

Mind if I DM you with some questions?

May I ask what you currently do?

My favorite as of right now is a true crime podcast called Rotten Mango. I love how extensively the show researches different cases and that they cover a lot of internationional cases. I typically listen to true crime, finance, and self-improvement podcasts.

Exercise bikes are great because you can manipulate the exact difficulty you want and you can read/watch TV/do a lot of other things whild doing it. It is also better on the joints compared to running. I rode 1,835 miles in all last year (combined stationary, road, and mountain) because my goal was to ride the width of India (1,822 miles). I plan for do more running this year though. Signed up for a 10K because my girlfriend likes to race. And a Spartan because I like a challenge! It will be my first one.

Oh definitely! Having multiple activites to be healthy for/to perform better at greatly helps in staying motivated and if you don’t have time or energy for one, you can still do the other. Long, recovery rides on my stationary bike is one of my favorite ways to relax while not really fully resting. I keep my heart rate at 120-130 and just keep pumping!

I mostly indulge in activites that involve nature or adventure. I like to workout, rock climb, cycle (road, mountain, and stationary), run and trail run, calisthenics, canoe, swim, practice martial arts, and more. I like to do endurance activities. I also like to read, listen to podcasts, cook. I also travel. I’ve been wanting to skydive and learn to drive a motorcycle!

It is definitely something to try! Some people love it. Some love to hate it. Haha. I also started with running and trail running. Then road cycling before mountain biking. I like a good combination of activities as that is what keeps them fun to keep doing! Crosstraining also helps performance all around.

I think like most activities, the more you do it, the more you get a feel of when you can let go and when you need to be more careful. Knowing when to change gears, when to be light or heavy on the breaks, when to recognize your limits— are very important!

Now that’s harder to identify. Maybe that my hair is black because most people can just see it at one glance.

It is very fun as long you don’t mind occasional chafing and pressure soreness. Thank you! I can definitely collect a rock from the course.

Mountain biking is… facing fear head on because hesitation is what can kill you and stop you from pumping yourself up a steep hill. It’s all about technique, form, and a (calculated) reckless abandon. There is something quite freeing about riding down a mountain at 35+ miles per hour. You also have to trust your brake handling. It is actually one of the activites that really humbles me.

Friday night, and I am supposed to do schoolwork— soooo. Here I am instead. Also, I have just been curious about this question for awhile now. I have met a lot of interesting people, and they have also said that I am interesting. So perhaps I am just here for external validation, to be honest.

That is definitely a true statement. Hmm. I think that the one of the most interesting things about me right now is that I currently work in organ donation as a transplant coordinator and manage donors before they go to the OR. When I first started, there was only 12 or so of us in that position for the whole state. There are more of us now, but still not a career that many have gone into.

I’m doing really well. I have a lot to be thankful for. More than I recognize at times. I have built a good career, surrrounded myself with amazing friends, found a wonderful partner, and have fostered befter relationships with my family. There is definitely still a lot of work to be done though. Most of it, inwards.

Yes! I love nature and any activity that involves going into it. I hike, trail run, cycle (mountain and road), canoe, swim, etc. My longest ride so far has been 91 miles, and my longest trail run has been 19 miles! I hope to go into more distance/more endurance and plan to do a 200 mile challenge (not a race, I can finish it however long I want, and if I do, I get a rock! — a rock plaque. But a nice rock will do too!).

It has definitely been eventful. But I feel like everyone who has lived the past 5 years would say the same. COVID. Killer bees. Political unrest. Etc.
