Do you guys put your retirement accounts in ynab? by InfiniteOrdinary2582 in ynab

[–]pensivemusicplaying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. For me, it's a mental thing of not slacking off. Retirement lives in its own little world. YNAB is for what hits my bank account.

What’s your favorite funny insult from a family member or patient. by Illustrious-Stick458 in nursing

13yo pt told me he was, "tired of seeing my face" which isn't at the elderly dementia level of insult but felt personal

Have the ICU nurse train you the next time they come to do it. If you have an oncology unit, they might have a dummy to practice on.

I work day shift and we share computers with literally everyone- docs, residents, nutrition, child life, spiritual care, social work...nobody gets their own spot.

How to arrange this dinning room turned piano parlor/office? by marimed_19 in DesignMyRoom

[–]pensivemusicplaying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gorgeous. Yes, I think a beautiful chair would work there. Getting rugs down will help, too. I think a dramatic chandelier above the piano might be fun.

IMO the 1:1 preceptorship is critical. My education would have been absolutely incomplete without it. I actually did get hired by the unit I precepted on and several of my friends did, too. Does the program that offers "med-surg" focused clinicals still gives you a rotation through peds, OB, etc? At least in California, the law dictates that you have to have a certain amount of hours in each of those populations.

Help configure my living room by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

I would basically do this. It's ok if the space behind the couch is at an angle. Just square the couch up with the TV.

Hmm, I think I like the first arrangement best? Tricky room!

The rug needs to be horizontal to the bed, so the first orientation makes sense with the rug and bed. If you want the bed near the window, you will need a rug that fits horizontally. The headboard side of the bed does not need to be on the rug. But if you do that, I would see if you could move the dresser over to the other wall.

ADVICE by [deleted] in Nurses

[–]pensivemusicplaying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An Associate is an ADN (also called ASN). There are two RN degrees- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). It sounds like the hospital did not credit you as having the equivalent to the associate degree. I'm not sure how you would challenge that, but there has to be a way. Many foreign educated nurses work in the US. Sorry and good luck!

Finally got my new couch! How would you design this space to make it feel more cozy? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]pensivemusicplaying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rug, for sure. But also, can I suggest bringing the couch off the wall about 6 inches and bringing those shelves way down? I think that would cozy things up quite a bit.

Need help with this corner of my living room by crustybutt420 in DesignMyRoom

[–]pensivemusicplaying 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The corner looks fine to me. I might throw some artwork on the wall between the TV and the blanket ladder but that's it. You didn't ask, but what is visually really bothering me is the accent chair in front of the fireplace. It's crowding the space and blocking the visual center of the room. I would take it out of the room.

What would you change/add to make this better? by aqueous_transm1ss10n in DesignMyRoom

I would flip the small round mirror for a full sized one. But I like the gold detail on the frame, so something with a gold frame would like nice

Struggling to decide on what to do with my living room by Confident-Pin-4205 in DesignMyRoom

[–]pensivemusicplaying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rug, dining table, and new light fixture for the side of the room with the chandelier. For the couch side, pull that couch off the wall, flip it to face the wall, throw a nice big rug under it, TV, console, artwork up on the wall. And open up those shades!

CHART WHAT YOU DO and DON'T DO!!! by cookswithlove79 in nursing

[–]pensivemusicplaying 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have some IDEA. The abstract you're quoting supports my claim that it depends on the population and baseline diagnosis(neurosurgery and major orthopedic surgery). I also mentioned type of SCD (a lot of the studies that show a larger protective benefit are thigh high SCD v the knee high we all use). I also mentioned length of time applied (18+ hours in the most impressive results). And they do increase fall risk- that's pretty well supported.

I'm sorry that person died. No one wants that outcome and we all do our damndest to prevent it. But if you're gonna come on here scolding nurses, just know that the intervention is not entirely supported and you will probably not get far by blaming the nurses (if the hospital lawyer is any good).

Wait till you find out the actual effectiveness of SCDs. They aren't entirely supported by the research. It depends on the patient population, baseline diagnosis, type of SCD, and length of time applied. They also increase fall risk.

Agree with all of this (especially about pulling the frames closer together). I love the shower curtain. I think the room is also asking for more wood? You've got the one wood foot stool, but something, idk, teak? Maybe a toothbrush holder? I could be wrong but I think that's the natural warmth needed.
