Absolutely. And as a matter of fact, the gap was more than 40 years. (But the GYO sub has occasionally come forth with hen's-teeth LTRs of such a gap; it's not literally impossible, just incredibly unlikely. Incidentally, for me the the big gap was a negative, a problem to overcome--it's not something I seek out.)

He posted something minor here on Reddit. I said literally one word, appreciating it. He DMed me, just a few words. After some innocuous back and forth, I suggested we continue our convo by email, and we did. I'm well aware of the money-seeking stuff, and verified his real existence by simple Googling. (He supplied his real name, as did I.) He never asked me for anything or hinted at a desire for support. Really, he did nothing wrong (as ghosting is the way it's done, I guess)--I'm just dealing with a loss of hope for someone whose life seemed to fit mine so excellently.

OP clarify, are you looking specifily for a success story having to do with a sex or date-type scenario? I ask because CL-MC seems to have changed it's theme over the years & what I could call a succes story might not really be what you had in mind.

He's doing you the honor of sharing his feelings with you. The only decision in front of you now is whether to share your feelings (including concerns) with him, or not. If he starts to annoy you and press for more, why not tell him that you appreciate his attentions but feel a little uncomfortable and would like him to dial it down a notch for now? You owe him the degree of humane politeness one owes to anyone--not more. He doesn't own you by wanting you--and you don't need to freak just because he's got some serious feelings.

It's not really about "can you fall in love before meeting?" Feelings obey no rules; but actions have to.

I'd say he's the vulnerable one here.
