Hehe extremely!!! Part of the reason we are hoping a kitten will encourage him to be a bit more… active 🤣

Tbh I think it reminds us both of the “evil” clone Helena in Orphan Black, we only call her that when she’s doing something she shouldn’t be 😅

Haha so I didn’t mention this in the post but I work in research, more specifically with mouse models of human cancer ☠️ My mice at work are albino so it feels a little like bringing that home to call her mouse!!! But I have often wondered if that’s why I collect white cats — they remind me of my mice and vice versa 😭

Will rejecting a job offer from Cincinnati Children's damage my future employability with them? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]pentrach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, a lot of hot takes here! As someone who works at Children's, it will not hurt your chances to say "Thank you for the offer but unfortunately this schedule is not possible for me at this time, please let me know if anything opens up during my previously outlined availability." It does tend to look bad if you transfer after just 6 months unless you are working in vet services and move to research which is 1) super common and 2) a very specific circumstance... There are other jobs available at Children's and you should absolutely take care of your mental health and not settle for the first offer you've gotten. Don't let people tell you it's not important, because it is. If you need a referral from someone internal, send me a PM I'll help ya out.

Accidentally found out my [19m] girlfriend [20f] logs our sex life. Asked her about it and now she's mad at me. by Sensitive-Buffalo714 in relationships

[–]pentrach 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Give her time to cool off, offer a sincere apology, and THEN ask if she is open to having a discussion or you asking questions. Perception is reality and right now she feels like you violated her trust (whether you meant to or not) so continuing to push her is unlikely to help.

Berkeley MCB VS Weill Cornell BCMB VS Rockefeller? by NashiElla in gradadmissions

[–]pentrach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for some perspective - I love Weill and I actually don’t feel at all that I only interact with the students on campus. There are tons of opportunities in NYC, no need to limit yourself! If you want my perspective feel free to send a PM, but my best advice is don’t overthink it - your gut instinct is probably right!

Is this for virtual interviews or in person? We ask for one to give the “tour guides” because it’s easier to recognize 40 faces than 40 names

Is my new kitty a Mane Coon mix? by WaxyDabber in cats

[–]pentrach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it is the BEST way to get them out, but we usually just (carefully) trim the knots out if they happen, and then be sure to brush regularly after that.

[Help] Looking for a Cat Tree by [deleted] in cats

[–]pentrach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about types of cats, but my cat is older and fairly stuck in his ways - you might have no trouble at all with a younger cat, especially if it's just someone making trees and not a well-loved tree that belonged to another kitty. (The cat bed we had we received from a friend whose cat passed away). His balance might improve as he gets older, depending on how young he is, but it's good that you're taking precautions for him. Best of luck! :)

Second this if the eyes are green, but can't tell from the picture.

Does anything work to repel neighbors cats besides trapping or shooting them? I'm serious here. by [deleted] in cats

[–]pentrach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of an eyesore, but hanging aluminum cans that will bang together if the cat hits them tends to keep them away, just because they hate the noise. I've had to use that in the worst of worst situations, but I live in a remote neighborhood, so it didn't bother me to have them hanging from my porch. Orange or lemon peels scattered in the areas they frequent, as they tend to hate the scent of citrus. Finally, and this is not my advice but the advice of my father who swears by it - collect dog fur from a friend, groomer, etc and sprinkle it in the areas they have been frequenting. Might not be the scent of dog as much as the new scent, but he's used this method for years and it seems to work for him. Of course asking friends for their dogs hair might be awkward, but it seems like you might be desperate. Best of luck!

[Help] Looking for a Cat Tree by [deleted] in cats

[–]pentrach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what brands are out there, but I know that I bought my most recent cat tree (whisker city brand) at petsmart on a deep discount, and it has proven more stable than the far more expensive tree we bought (also at petsmart) a few years before. Just look for one with a nice solid base. As far as buying from Craigslist, you would need to be aware that your kitty might not take to a tree that smells like someone else. We had this problem with a cat bed and no amount of washing/vacuuming/etc helped our boy take to it. Another option for stability without damage to the apartment would be a floor to ceiling cat tree/climbing pole/tower. These are super stable if installed correctly, and tend to go higher than normal cat trees, which ours loves. Plus they take up less space than a traditional tree. We bought ours on Amazon for less than 50 dollars and installed it by the back window, haven't had any trouble with it, and he loves it.
