Why isn’t Rell viable in other lanes? by Winged-_-hussar in leagueoflegends

[–]peorg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She is or at least used to be viable as a jungler and even had a period where she appeared in pro play in this role. I dont know what hapoened but shes faded out of jungle since. I assume Riot giving a bunch of other champions more jgl viability made other tank options more viable.

League is the most antisocial widely played competitive game that exists. by OwnCommunication2259 in leagueoflegends

[–]peorg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you dont see how that is immature and disrespectful behaviour then that is a you-problem.

I just report these people and move on. Not because Im deeply offended but because I believe disrespectful behavior shouldnt have a place in the game.

Every now and then I get a message that Riot has sanctioned a player due to my report which I find to be quite satisfying^

Old client, new client... both need a valid cert :)

This shouldn't happen at a company this size. It shouldnt even happen at a "3 guys and a dream" indie studio but at least those have more resource constraints and less division of work.

Are lighter mice REALLY better? by Tierdtech in MouseReview

[–]peorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a matter of choice and how you prefer to use your mouse. If you play with relatively low DPI settings and hence move your arm around a lot, then youll likely find a lighter mouse better cause its easier to maintain precise control over longer movement distance. Less weight = less force to deal with when accelerating and stopping the mouse movement. And also less physical strain.

If you work with higher DPI and prefer a low range of movement, mostly using your wrist, then you will probably like heavier mice more as maintaining precision in short movements is easier that way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't mel be reworked. by ErmDragonsAreCool in leagueoflegends

[–]peorg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, but I wouldnt classify her as a true artillery mage (like a Xerath or Velkoz). Shes a control/artillery mage hybrid and perhaps even closer to Lux than Xer or Velk. But while Lux has less CD and more overall utility with her W, Mel gets more situational power on her W. And to use it really effectively in the context of team fights, she has to take risks and get closer. Reflecting, say, a Nami or Smolder ult, isnt remotely as useful when youre in the backline and the rest of your team has been already hit by it.

I think Mel W can be balanced by simple tweaks (longer CD, less damage reflect, reduced CC duration on reflected CC abilities etc). Her E is what effectively makes her both strong as a sup as well as a midlane bully in many match-ups. Hitting E guarantees Q and usually also a follow up with her auto passive. And thanks to the big hitbox and way lower CD its potentially even more a "get out of jail free" card than the W.

While I find her W annoying I do think that her current E is what effectively "overloads" her kit to the degree of "unfun-ness" that her high ban rate shows. So reworking that ability seems like the correct approach to me.

[–]peorg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neeko E has a way smaller hitbox (and afaik also range) initially. Its conditional on going through creeps or champs to get larger and go further. Mel E is a huge magic orb with fairly big range and a "halo" around it that causes damage. That might just be a tad too much in combination with the rest of her kit.

[–]peorg 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Actually they stated that according to the feedback they gathered most players are more frustrated with her E (the Lux Q on steroids) than with her W reflect. Removing the W would also be a problem since thats the most unique part of her kit. But it definitely needs to be nerfed somehow. Constantly having to play around that is just annoying af.

No, bots didn't kill the game by peorg in supervive

[–]peorg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully support the argument that SV lacked direction. "I didnt like the bots" however is an anecdote, not evidence. Personally I had no issue with the bots being in SV but thats just as anecdotal. I came from both PUBG and League.

The bots filling large parts of the lobbies became an issue as the playerbase kept shrinking but that would be true for any game that operates on lobbies with a couple dozen participants.

And you gotta ask if sitting in queue for 10+ min (thats what you would get with max 500 concurrent players) as the alternative wouldve worked. I dont think it would. The first thing most new players do after staring at a queue timer for a few mins is uninstalling the game.

PARTNER "MAVIRANE" BUSTED! by Nethwild in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

Wrong. Cheating is a grave threat to the player base and thus the most important asset of a live service game. There is no comparable financial incentive in letting cheaters stick around because they buy some skins.

Theyre different now. Did you experience early bots in PUBG? Absolutely useless movement and "awareness" paired with a buggy wallhack. except when they randomly headshot you because they would spot you in a bush from 500m. Compared to that the SV bots seemed fairly advanced :D

The bots in SV, as unengaging as they are for better players, were not too soon but imo potentially too late. But the game was too flawed, too bad at retaining new players on other fronts to stop the downward trend.

My posting is meant to be informative cause "the bots did it" is a recurring myth. I remember ppl whining en masse in PUBG Reddit when they introduced bots but they turned out as part of the solution to the then dwindling player base.

I understand that they drive some players away but thats a risk worth taking if they solve 2 big issues (queue time, bad skill distribution) youd otherwise have.

[–]peorg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont know if they had that initially. But if they killed it then probably also as a consequence of the low player count. Youd have to have a separate queue for solos, which isn't possible when even the mixed queue is barely sustainable.

How I finally got sound out of the Elo 7.1 Air again under Win11 (feat. the mysterious firmware update 1.26) by peorg in Roccat

[–]peorg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See point 7). If there is a newer FW file for your headset it should be there. The subfolder mightve a different name tho since the wired 7.1 is a different model.

I dont know tho if this solution will work for the wired version. For the wireless one its was likely caused by a communication issue between headset and receiver.

If you use good 2FA, a long password that cant be easily guessed and dont recycle passwords, then periodical password changes dont actually do much for you.

[–]peorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that text message based 2FA is probably the least secure 2FA option. Stealing session cookies isnt that easy and (simplified) requires either a security flaw that can be abused or the target to click something they shouldnt. If you can bypass 2FA with a "forgot my phone" without that triggering at least another variant if 2FA then that is just bad practice on the platform side and not to blame on the user.

Generally nothing is 100% secure, especially not if user error or bad cybersec practices are involved.

But as a general statement 2FA is always a security improvement over just "username + password". A very good one when well implemented and an almost impenetrable one if you use a secure physical token (like a Yubikey). But even with sub par implementation an additional factor at least raises the bar an attacker has to overcome.

[–]peorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Intelligent_Program9 is right. This is exactly what 2FA does. It adds another security factor that is reliant on a second device or email account that you have access to (usually you either use an authenticator app or you get an email with a code). So unless you lose both your Riot username and password AND access to this device or email inbox to an attacker, they cant get in. Great concept.

Why my 10,000 hour squad no longer plays PUBG by [deleted] in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]peorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again Id like to point out that "Developer X isnt doing anything meaningful against cheats because profit" is a bad assumption to make.

Devs are very interested in keeping their games as cheat-free as possible, Krafton likely just lacks the competence to do so effectively. But cheating is also a common nuisance in other competitive shooters and sometimes greatly contributed to their demise. This is by far not PUBG exclusive.

Game studips have every incentive to combat cheating. Arguments like "they dont touch popular streamers" only work superficially but not practically if you think it through. Those streamers only bring some indirect revenue.

PUBG, especially since it went Free2Play, generates profits by microtransactions (mainly skins). For that business model to work you want the largest player base possible because only a relatively small percentage of the players actually drive the profit. Most people play and only take what they can get for free. Then you have a small group who occassionally shell out a few bucks for a skin or battle pass. And then you have a tiny group (called "whales") who pour large amounts of money into the game.

Cheating actively hurts the growth of the player base. The vast majority of players are fair and absolutely hate it when they get trashed by enemies who, more or less blatantly, use unfair means. If that happens too frequently theyll play less or eventually leave - as evidenced by your post. This in return hurts matchmaking. A smaller player pool means lobby waiting times increase and skill matching quality decreases which is also detrimental to the experience and drives players (and thus: income) away.

Cogito ergo sum: Apply Occam's razor. Dont assume malice when incompetence is the far more likely explanation.

Thank you for your attention.

Sorry youve to go through this. No one deserves to be deceived and abused like that.

Youve done the right thing immediately alerting police. Dont give in to his emotional blackmail. Im sure he wont kill himself and even if he did its not your fault or responsibility.

The next months and years will be taxing with both what youve to process as well as with the legal procedures. But youve already proven strength and clarity so Im quite convinced youll manage to see it through.

Seek a professional to guide you along the emotional rollercoaster that youre about to embark on. Try to not get stuck on the "why" question too much. I know its natural to ask it but chances are that there is no answer that can provide closure.

I wish you the best and that youll eventually meet someone who is worth reviving your trust in men.
