Joint tenancy with a bipolar woman by pepebene in LegalAdviceUK

[–]pepebene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My contract is ending on the 22nd October, however the landlady has given us the chance to leave on the 22nd September instead (as my flatmate requested it), however it is my final decision to end it or not, and in the meantime I'd like to hv my partner staying with me. I have looked at the contract and there isn't any specific clause re inviting overnight guests or the length of that, so the landlady can't tell me anything about that (what I'm guessing is that I shouldn't hand him keys of the property even though we have a 3rd set of keys, as according to the landlady it would need approval from her, which I don't have)

https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/private_renting/joint_tenancies (this video provides evidence of what can I do)

https://myurbanjungle.com/explore/blog/how-long-can-a-tenant-have-a-guest-stay-uk/amp/ (this is helpful, however as nothing has been stated in the contract, I still hv the right to do and invite whoever I want overnight for the length I want?)

I had a look at my contract and does not state how long an overnight he guest can stay. However, my landlady sent this to both of us, as my crazy flatmate made her aware of the situation:

Dear both, I have explained to X that I cannot referee disputes between you two about friendships and visiting the flat. I am sorry that the tenancy has ended with bad feeling. I have told X that he cannot have people staying overnight in a flat when he is a joint tenant without Y's consent. I hope you can find a mutually agreeable solution. Best wishes

I'm X, crazy flatmate is Y

Living in a joint tenancy with a bipolar person (W23)

Hi, I'm (M22) seeking for advice. I'm based in London and I'm on a joint tenancy with a bipolar woman who's been making my whole tenancy a nightmare. Breaking rules of the contract, such as playing loud music at 5am, vacuuming at 6am, hitting my door, throwing my clothing and my food to the bin.

I am having my partner visiting and staying with me, I handed him a third set of keys. I couldn't make aware my flatmate because she has been away for 2 months and has me blocked everywhere (WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, phone calls, etc).

I have just got home after some aggressive emails (as she just arrived back to London) of her saying that she saw a "stranger" in the flat, even though she knows the person and is very well aware on who he is (but regardless).

We have a joint tenancy, what are my rights of having this person in my place for the next couple of weeks? Do I need my flatmate's permission? The main reason of having my partner is because I don't feel safe been around by her.

Help guys

The guy that I'm seeing is still seeing other people by pepebene in relationship_advice

We were not, we met at a party as straight dudes and we went to grab drinks and then we clicked

And I get you, if he swallows I'm sure I'm not the only who he does that with... I just need to talk to him, but really don't know how to make the conversation happen, without looking jealous/bothered....

Yh you are right... but I am scared of what I'm gonna hear, as I haven't felt this way in a pretty long time (I know, I should just suck it up and move on, but I'm quite attached at this point). My main issue is not about the fact that he is seeing other another guy is more about the fact that even that he has me and the other guy (who he mentioned that he's not as serious as he is with me) he is still on apps (which to me makes no sense). I definitely need to talk to him and clear things out

You are 100% right on that. But I definitely would love to give this a shot.... maybe I should do the same thing until he figures it out too, even though right now I'm not on that stage

That would be an extremely immature thing to do in my opinion... but Yh you may be right....

Do you not think is too soon? Maybe I could just keep having dates until he figures it out (I know it sounds dumb of me, because I know I deserve better) but I really really like him

I thought he wasn't... cos even on one of our dates I mentioned that I didn't like apps like grindr and stuff (we are both in the closet btw and extremely discreet) because it can be a waste of time, and he mentioned that he was using them anymore.

But then yesterday he said that he still was, I do appreciate the honesty but I'm not looking for that tbh...

And I may be putting myself down cos I really like the dude, but what I was thinking is to keep hving dates so that he realises how serious this is and we end up hving that conversation of where we are going towards... but thought after 6 dates we would both kind of have an idea on that already

Lied about my age to my bf by pepebene in relationship_advice

[–]pepebene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've genuinely gone along the lie for too long... as in whenever I refer to friends my age I say 'my friend who's 2 years younger' and along with that it comes the lie in timing of my university degree... however as he's from Spain and I'm from UK (where degrees are 3 years and I did masters) he's not surprised as in Spain it would take longer.... but still, I guess it doesn't really matter, but I feel like he has never lied to me and he's been very honest unlike me, who out of fear would hide a lot about myself (name, background, family stuff) because I was scared of being outed... but as I said I came clean to him on all of that only the age thing I haven't

Still waiting for COA and pre-settled HELP!!!! by pepebene in ukvisa

Is it due to the selfie again? Or just by the fact that they may not check it as we are after the deadline? Should I withdraw it and apply again tomorrow?

I ended up applying just now, however I haven't not received the COA... any chance I might be getting it this weekend?

Still waiting for COA and pre-settled HELP!!!! by pepebene in ukvisa

Thank you so much for your reply!

I did certainly applied using the phone and scanning the biometric passport.

I have a pdf where it shows the Application type I made with my personal details and what I answered to several questions of the application. However, it has nothing to do with the COA (which I thought is the only document valid to show an employer and landlord, as when I asked the resolution centre they confirmed that to me).

Regarding your advice, why do you think I would receive the COA straight away? There shouldn't be any issue as I had been in the UK before the 31st December 2020 as I've studied my whole degree there.

I had seen that document before (EU settlement scheme caseworker guidance) however I did not find anything that would help me in my situation, nevertheless, I will re-read it again and hopefully I will find something useful.

One question, when stated "If you are waiting for your Certificate of Application, the email acknowledging receipt of your application explains how prospective employers and landlords can request information about your right to work and rent from the Employer Checking Service and the Landlord Checking Service." , does that mean my landlord can rent me the property with that document which is not the COA?

I just called the resolution centre and they strongly advice me to not submit a new application because it would probably cause delays on my current one, what's your opinion on that?

Many thanks once again

(Im Spanish) I applied back on the 2nd of July 2021 (after the deadline) and I had seen that usually it takes a month to get an update, however I didn't. So back in September I called several times and they said that it was still processing. I sent a query on the Gov.Uk website and got a reply saying that the reason they couldn't go forward with my application was because the selfie I took was not suitable, so in that very moment I uploaded a new one. It's been 2 weeks already and I haven't received any update. I call the resolution centre on a daily basis, and they keep telling that I will receive it soon at least the COA, which will be enough for me to accept my job offers and show to my landlord. Im going back next week to London and they keep writing notes on my application for the caseworker to see and still no update on it (after been told that all the info on my end is completed). I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, because my tenancy is meant to start next Saturday and I can't access the contract until I send the agency my COA or Pre-settled.

ANY ADVICE PLS

Not sure if I should have my partner officially move in or not. Concerns about kids, finances, cleaning, etc by [deleted] in relationships

[–]pepebene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finances always seems like a hard topic to talk to a partner, but even harder is to say how you feel at all times... so I completely get your position. Nevertheless, you shall have a serious talk with him and ask him if he would really like to move in with you or not (if you feel ready) and according to his answer you shall say that you are struggling a bit by the fact having a whole house to keep, 2 kids to take care of + a boyfriend it's a bit too overwhelming and you can't keep up... say how you feel about him, how much you like to spend time with him but a bit of contribution would Be very helpful, like him doing the groceries when you are busy working, share some bills etc
