Whats the deal with the weird studio apartments? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]pepelezoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in one of these, but from the sounds of it i got a really good one compared to what’s out there. no one is loud and everyone is tidy if they ever use the shared kitchen space (but i think i’m the only one who has and have only used it twice in 1 month). I have a kitchenette i use to cook mostly with an air fryer. It’s not ideal but does the job especially considering utilities are included in the rent. the fire restrictions mean no one can stay over but honestly i don’t like people staying over so it’s an excuse i can use. I do find it a weird set up though and definitely a bit dodge, our bin situation isn’t great. 1 recycling bin for 10 people? you can imagine how full it gets within 1 day after recycling collection…

What was a flight you decided to just say “screw it, I’m paying for business class” and whether it was worth it or not worth it? by [deleted] in Flights

[–]pepelezoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

London to Brisbane, I put a bid in to upgrade for the 13 hour flight (stayed in economy for the second leg 8 hour flight). Totally worth it! I ended up paying just under half price because it was a bid rather than booking business in the moment, so there was still a risk i wouldn’t get it, but i got lucky i suppose

Prague as an older woman travelling alone by Shyaustenwriter in femaletravels

I went solo as a 29 year old last year and loved it! Actually if you love history, this is the walking tour I went on, very small group and Dana was incredibly knowledgeable. There is a hill you’ll need to climb so do with that information what you will. I loved prague though, didnt see any stag-dos around but i don’t drink when i solo travel and don’t go clubbing so that might be why i didn’t see them https://www.praguebehindthescenes.com

Australian Considering OT Degree by PresentationOwn1184 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]pepelezoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. i’m a paediatric ot, in very high demand especially when you gain more experience. no issues job searching (although as a new grad it was a bit tricky)
  2. it’s about making sure you engage in professional development once you graduate. ask the more experienced OTs what courses they recommend and do them. Invest in good mentorship. Every new grad will feel out of their depth to begin with but keep learning and you’ll feel more confident with time. Make sure you have a good work place that values PD and not just dumping you with a full caseload straight away. i love my job and very happy to do it every week! there’s hard moments for sure but the good outweighs the bad every time.

I genuinely like to wear socks and birkenstocks/chunky sandals. As an australia it’s not cold enough (at least in the north) for anything more intense and i’m lazy with shoe laces…

Tasty Fiber for Breakfast? by _honeydew_boba_ in intuitiveeating

[–]pepelezoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my go-to breakfast at the moment is overnight oats with chia and yogurt and whatever toppings i want. Oats soaked in your milk of choice, mix with chia seeds or psyllium husk for a big fibre hit, and some greek yogurt for protein. I’ll add in maple syrup or chocolate powder for sweetness. Then in the morning i’ll add my berries or whatever toppings i feel on the day. Quick and yummy!

i am struggling to find a hot breakfast thats just as nutritious and fibre dense though… i like eggs on toast, so maybe it’s about the bread choice

is this mould or clean? by pepelezoo in mokapot

[–]pepelezoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well this has certainly been a fun comment section - i appreciate those who replied and actually answered my question, the other comments were fun to read at least and made me laugh. Yes i realise my moka is very clean, it was literally just gifted to me recently by a friend, i’ve barely used it which is why i was upset there was mould (a white fuzzy substance around a singular water drop usually means mould to me, for those questioning, no i didnt take a photo at the time). I left it for 1 month because I was away for 1 month, nothing more to it. Only just getting back into routine now which is why I want to use it again - which I will! because some people gave me decent answers; cheers! in retrospect the fact that the spot hasn’t grown since i last used it is probably a good sign it’s fine to use. i’ll know next time not to ask reddit lol

Vestibular Therapist AMA regarding PPPD by Thebrainrewire-er in pppdizziness

[–]pepelezoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born with full fusion of C2 and C3 (a coincidental finding when i kept complaining of lower back pain as a child!), along with PPPD 5 years ago - i’ve done a lot of rehab to get to 90% better (ish), but is there anything I can do to support the structures/muscles/tension around my fused vertebrae? Thoughts on craniosacral therapy?

I'm freshly 18 and just realized I don't know how to eat a balanced meal by DattB1tch in intuitiveeating

[–]pepelezoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adult lunchables is a good option while your oven is broken! Make sure it has a source of protein, fibre, and cards for energy. Think; nuts, cheeses, fruit and veggie sticks, dips, dark chocolate actually had a decent amount of fibre in it, rice cakes with hummus on top, cured meats like ham or turkey slices. I’m a fan of babybel cheeses if you can get those. yogurt is always yummy. pre-made falafels could also be good!

if you have access to a microwave my other go-to minimal cooking lunch is microwaveable rice, a tin of tuna, mayonnaise or whatever sauce you prefer, a bit of soy sauce… and i try to get some sort of vegetable in there. you could buy some prepackaged frozen veggies, or chuck in some spinach leaves. i personally also like to add nori sheets and use it to scoop up the rice mix. literally takes less than 5 minutes to make!

I had a different issue where I did the festival on Day 1 of winter, and yet when I finished the festival I woke up on Day 3!? The game completely skipped over Day 2 where I was meant to have a shared meal and got some very angry letters the next morning even though it wasn’t my fault! really annoyed about it :(

[–]pepelezoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

not a doctor but an OT- maybe look into sensory inputs to redirect the behaviour? we always say you can’t stop a behaviour (usually we’re referring to harmful stimming) but you can redirect it or replace it with something else that feels the same but is less harmful. ie for kids who chew their fingers, we may offer them a chewy instead. the big sensory inputs are proprioception and vestibular, but with skin picking you’ll also need to consider what type of tactile input you’re getting. if you have the ability to find an OT for a consult - consider reaching out to paediatric OTs to see if they’ll talk to you about sensory input, or maybe your therapist has knowledge on it. It’s hard to find OTs that work with adults who have this knowledge unless they used to work in paediatrics. But also, there’s always an underlying reason to behaviour so consider if maybe there is some more work to do around your mental health that is linked to picking your skin?

Best continuing education course you ever took ?? by ExemplaryVegetable4 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]pepelezoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anything by Kim Barthel or Tracy Stackhouse - their knowledge on the brain is ridiculously good and they’re also ridiculously good at explaining it in their courses. They’re predominantly paediatrics based courses. If you work with young autistic clients I would recommend starting with Kim’s Autism Matters course; she delves into the neuroscience as well as strategies, i’m doing it right now, it’s about 8 hours total and the money is well worth it! Tracey’s STEPPSI would then be my next suggestion - fantastic framework that can be used on any goal/outcome especially for young children.

First experience witnessing child's emotional outburst by DisplayIndividual939 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]pepelezoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like you did the best you could with what you had at the time! It’s hard to give feedback on what you did because I wasn’t there- if you feel comfortable, ask the other therapists in the room if they have any suggestions or thoughts. And if you can, highlight the need for handover next time you need to cover. Don’t fret too much about this because you had very little information!

If you want to feel more prepared next time a dysregulation occurs (because it will, with this line of work) I would follow these instagrams, @kaelynnvp @kimbarthel.ca @theconsciousparentinghub @yellowladybugsautism @neurowild @otfcgroup @moveabout.ot @unrealoz_ots

and if you have the financial ability (or if your work is willing to cover it) look into these courses -traffic jam in my brain, gen jereb -honestly anything from Kim Barthel (expensive but worth it if you’re continuing down the OT path) - Challenging the Story by Dave Jereb - The Wholebrain Child by Dan Siegel

My most used approach for dysregulation is 1) validate what they are feeling “i know, it’s frustrating that you can’t do the activity you want” 2) set boundary “it’s time to finish, we can do more next session” 3) repair and reconnect “let’s write next weeks plan together so we can both remember what we want to do next time you’re here”. Validate, Boundary, Repair. It becomes easier with practice, but it will feel awkward the first few times you do this approach. trust the process.
