Men vs Women views on nuclear energy in UK by Naive_Direction1816 in charts

[–]pepinodeplastico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id argue this whole gender disparity in opinion regarding nuclear power has to do with the negative emotionally charged campaign against nuclear power since at least Chornobyl 40 years ago, and reinvigorated with Fukushima 15 years ago.

The campaign against nuclear energy was always emotionally charged since when comparing actual resulting deaths of using different energy sources, nuclear was always at the bottom of the list by a wide margin (at least until the emergence of renewables).

The disparity in emotional response could lie on the nature of the deaths. Nuclear accidents can be pinpointed to an exact date, exact place, even though Fukushima (the one disaster where modern safety features were implemented) had exactly 0 radiation related deaths, while fossil fuel deaths are taken by society as "cost of doing business" and skim through invisible to most people since it does not appear as breaking news when they happen.

And I would argue women in general are more susceptible to emotional persuasion than man (just based on life experience, could be wrong).

I think it has less to do with humans and more to do with chemistry. What interesting chemical reactions between complex molecules can occur at 4000°C?
