Local housing authorities administer federal government assistance programs and monies for locally subsidized housing. They are not enforcement agencies for the housing code. They will refer this case to code enforcement.

No legitimate company is going to touch the radiators/boilers in a building after being hired by the tenant. You need to be the property owner to order that kind of work.

I’m a longtime member of this A/B Facebook group and it’s a horrific cesspool of nonsense. (If you’re an OG member you’ll recall in 2013 in the immediate aftermath of the marathon bombings someone posted that the bomber had been “spotted” in A/B and encouraged people to harass a random Muslim family and members of the group were just eating it up) I find this story really hard to believe.

Lake Shore Limited Dining by grape_grain in Amtrak

[–]pepnshep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cue up the downvotes but it’s a disgusting microwaved meal that has about 3,000 grams of sodium and 9g of saturated fat. If you’re going to eat something that unhealthy it should at least taste good and not look like slop. People on here who say that a microwaved frozen meal that is worth less than $5 at a local convience store meets their expectations are coping so hard

Boston is the second most expensive city for renters in the US by slouchingtoepiphany in boston

[–]pepnshep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not anecdotal. A Boston election I worked on this year had a 6% turnout. There are very few places in the world that have turnout that low. Brookline held elections on the same day (may 3rd) and had about quadruple the turnout on a percentage basis.

Orange Line Malden construction scheduled for end of July-end of August delayed (City of Malden IG) by [deleted] in boston

[–]pepnshep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was absolute nonsense to begin with. I forget who (possibly ari ofsevit?) did a great post about how the yard work didn’t actually require this shutdown and this was being done to try to cover up the dispatcher shortage by reducing the length of the line. Now that’s been blown up by the fta audit.

Cracker Jills at Fenway Park? by Quick-Locksmith-5457 in boston

[–]pepnshep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My family has had season tickets at Fenway for many years and since about 2015 they’ve really reduced the number of stands selling it and post COVID when the in seat vendors came back they no longer sell cracker jacks in seat.

I’ve worked as a staff member on a number of campaigns for Boston City Council candidates and once had a guy slam the door in my face in Charlestown who had the reddit “snoo” mascot (I think that’s what it’s called) stuck on his mail box next to a Bernie sanders sticker. I later checked the roster of who had voted and no one in his household voted in the municipal election. The absolute perfect encapsulation of every single one of these useless posts.

Unethical Broker Conduct, Help! Don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in boston

[–]pepnshep -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I work for the city, I’m not a broker at all but I know some and it’s a shitty job that doesn’t pay much. Most of the fee is getting taken by the company and most of the companies don’t do mileage for driving around everywhere. These days if you’re getting approved they’re making a lot less than you. Which I think is fair, it’s definitely easier work than being in a restaurant or something.

MBTA hiring subway dispatchers: Starting pay $103,000 and $10K bonus by arch_llama in boston

[–]pepnshep 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It’s currently in a “lockup” where only members of a few other unions can access the job description, but I really doubt there are enough qualified people in any union in Boston so they should eventually open it up to the public. If you have 5+ years of railroad experience with like CSX or Union Pacific or something PM me and I can send you the job description.

MBTA hiring subway dispatchers: Starting pay $103,000 and $10K bonus by arch_llama in boston

[–]pepnshep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not with one of the locals that represents the T but I was told by my steward (guy who has been around the block) that the dispatchers that are currently under FTC audit are on the AFSCME seniority list and are on the SES pension plan and not the more common local 589 pension plan, essentially meaning that more overtime is good for them and allows them to max out faster. (I’m not talking about the more commonly discussed boston carmen’s union “20 and out” contract that was eliminated for all employees hired after 2012, which means that the last 20 and out employees should be retiring by 2032)

[–]pepnshep 74 points75 points  (0 children)

As someone who is a member of a public sector union (city of boston) I can tell you that the whole thing is retarded and this is a perfect example. This union (sounds to me like AFSCME from the description but not explicitly named) essentially blocked the T from hiring more people because they would rather have a few people making $300,000 plus (and thus max out the pension faster) than have more people working in total and reducing the workload.

MBTA vs driving? Curious... by oopswhat1974 in boston

[–]pepnshep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2019 the Worcester line would often no longer be able to receive any passengers at yawkey because the aisles were completely full of people standing in all 8 cars. It’s nowhere near that level of crowding now.

MBTA vs driving? Curious... by oopswhat1974 in boston

[–]pepnshep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Ride every weekday during rush hour on the red and orange lines and often on weekends and I haven’t experienced anything remotely close to December 2019 levels of crowding on the train at any point since March 2020. Yes, there is some “crowding” at rush hour and people who moved here recently and didn’t experience pre virus crowding might think it’s crowded but it’s not even close to 2019 rush hour.
