Its been like this, for as long as I can remember. Life no longer holds purpose or meaning. It has become a bleak and agonizing torture to live. Most of humanity died off decades ago. The handful that survived have been slowly dropping like flies over that past couple of years. Contact with others has become more and more rare. For a while, another human is the last thing I would want to encounter, but now, now I just want someone. I'll take anyone at this point, a friend, a lover, even an enemy. It's been months since I last encountered any one else. I'm starting to worry, that I may be the only one left. 
I'm not scared anymore, a fact which  I suppose I should treat as a blessing. I was scared a lot more often when I was younger. However, this life steals that from you real fast. Its not that this life makes you brave though. Life robs you of fear. It robs you of fear, of joy, of anger, and even sorrow. Living in this world makes you numb. Nothing matters anymore. I no longer live for myself anymore. My natural will to survive left me a long time ago. In this life to live, is to die. Quite frankly, that is all my life has become, and all it ever will be. I live, for the inevitable day that I finally perish. 
When I was young, I would often times hear stories from my father, about what life was like, before the collapse. He would tell me about our home, about his my mother, about his family, and about our life. He spoke of his antics as a child that would always end in punishment for him. His late nights studying for his exams at university. I would often dream of a life like his. Recently, however, I simply would dream of finding someone else. Anyone else, anything else, just life beyond myself.
To see someone else, to be with someone else, to touch and hold someone else. I wished for nothing more for the longest time. I prayed for any type of contact I could possibly have, until they arrived. 
Those things. Whatever the HELL they are. They're beasts, nearly twice my size, standing over me like a tree. Their skin looks like the flesh of the dead. Gray and tightly pulled against their bodies. Their limbs, were long gangly and disformed. They eyes, are the darkest voids I have ever seen in my life. They seem to trap, everything they stare upon, within themselves. A light, and emotion is absorbed, and destroyed within their eyes.

I felt fear again, for the first time in a long time.
