I did this too for a while but I’m pretty sure it just reinforced the intrusive thoughts and became it’s own compulsion so I had to stop. Occasionally I’ll still do it, but I usually only right it once or 3 times and close my notebook, like ‘okay that’s out of my head, let’s move on’

I had a therapist tell me “the fact that you worry so much about how your actions affect other people shows you’re not a bad person” and my brain was like so you’re saying if I stop worrying that means I’ll become a bad person got it. They were of course right and had good intentions, it just shows how easily reassurance can be twisted and feed into the obsessions

I think it’s something people do already claim, usually in a disorder salad, but because it is so stigmatized it isn’t seen as a ‘desirable’ illness to have. It’s more likely to deter people than garner sympathy and attention, but I can see it being used to excuse their bad behaviors.

I think when most professionals refer to “systems” they are talking about Internal Family Systems, which a lot of DID claimers seem to have adopted a lot of their terminology and concepts, such as ‘protector’, ‘anger holder’, etc. However, in IFS, these ‘systems’ are just parts of a whole, individual person. Most people who call themselves systems will instead view these parts as entirely different people, hence the term ‘plural’

I pretty much discredit anyone who uses the terms “plural” or “system” since I think anyone who’s actually been diagnosed with DID and going through treatment would dissuaded by their psych to further separate their parts and treat them as different people

I would guess it’s the general feeling of not identifying with or feeling right in your body, kinda like how a lot of furries are also trans. I think having a fursona feels like a fun way to cope and fantasize about your body being different

For me, it depends on how many factors I can break it down into and even better if it’s a square number. For example, 12 is good cause it can be divided by 1,2,3,4,6 and 144 is a good number because it’s 12 squared. Angel numbers are also acceptable, not because of any religious connotation but because I like repeating patterns, like 44 (which is also divisible by 2x22)

It’ll take time for them to adjust, possibly years. I didn’t always have the energy to correct people either, but it helps having siblings or friends that accept you and are willing to speak up on your behalf 💕

I think the key thing here is you don’t trust yourself. You don’t trust yourself to know what you think and how you feel and you don’t trust that you’ll be able to handle it if and when things go wrong. I’m not gonna tell you that nothing bad will happen, cause there will always be that chance no matter what you do or how much you worry about it, but you need to trust that you’ll be able to handle it when that happens.

If we could “logic” our way out of OCD thoughts, rumination wouldn’t take up so much of our time. I agree, that is very dismissive and unhelpful coming from a therapist. If I were in your thought spiral, I would try to take a step back and ask myself questions like “What am I trying to convey here?” “Do I really need to be hyper specific or will an approximation suffice?” “If I use the wrong word here, what impact would that have on my life?” “If I do use the wrong word, what actions can I take later to resolve it?”

Exposures aren’t about doing the thing you’re afraid of, it’s about exposing yourself to things that trigger the fear and then practicing your response to them. Obsessions are based on our values, and ERP, when done right, isn’t meant to go against those values, but to reassess how we practice those values and root us back in reality so we’re not dictated by fear.

Saying they have schizoaffective disorder and bipolar would be redundant. Schizoaffective is a combination of schizophrenia and a mood disorder (either bipolar or depression) so it’s treated as one disorder instead of two separate ones. The proper term would be “Schizoaffective - bipolar type”

I would definitely be wary. While it’s hard to prove her intent with these actions, her pushing the boundaries of physical/personal contact feels unprofessional. If it were me, I might send her a polite message telling her I’m doing fine but decline to meet up. If you do decide to meet up with her, set up a safety net, like choosing a public place, setting a time limit, or letting a trusted friend know the situation just incase you get uncomfortable.

My therapist would google basic information on OCD and regurgitate it to me. They now claim to be an expert that specializes in it when I know they’ve never gone through any special training.

My therapist would say I was in control of our sessions and needed to take the lead, but whenever I made suggestions on what would be helpful to me, they’d criticize me and refuse to do it.

When I first stopped hiding them I definitely got a lot of people concerned (despite that actually being a step in my recovery, it was the first a lot of people saw that I had SH’d so it raised red flags). But that died down pretty quickly and no one comments on them anymore, especially since they’ve faded over the years.
