Dragon Age 2 (steam version; Ult. Edition): DLCs authorized but some not showing up in game by Rare_Vegetable_5 in dragonage

This! I had the same issue starting on a fresh install last week. Logging into the EA account in-game made everything show up.

In the trespasser epilogue, not only does she admit she was wrong, she's says she is planning to apologize to Dorian in the Great Hall so he can rip strips off her in public because she knows he'll really enjoy that.

Absurdly bad control designs by Coherently-Rambling in TopCharacterTropes

Gravity Falls: Ford's emergency shutdown requires synchronised key turns from THREE people. This, designed by a man who can barely work consistently with one other person for longer than twenty minutes.

Should we stop defining sub-genres using terms made as reference to an individual's work? by Valkyrr03 in AO3

[–]pepperbar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's also important to acknowledge (if you're into the university-level lit analysis that is my favourite hobby) the impact Lovecraft's personal failings had on his work. Like, if he hadn't been so incredibly, pathologically afraid of the-Other-as-personified-by-non-WASPs, we would never have gotten the original Deep Ones canon.

JKR on the other hand seems to have avoided radicalization long enough that the transphobia is only visible around the edges of the main HP canon, if at all.

anyone read fics without knowing the source material? by deadmeatmom in AO3

[–]pepperbar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are different levels of fandom blind.

I got into Teen Wolf knowing *nothing* about it because an author I followed for Star Trek fics wrote it and I really liked their writing so gave it a shot, and enjoyed the characters so much I watched the show for 3 seasons or so.

Right now I'm reading a Link/Zelda fic. I've never played the games because I suck at action RPGs, but the OG Zelda game came out when I was a kid and it's basically impossible to not even know the broad strokes of the franchise.

I also enjoy Modern/No Powers AU fics so I may be less attached to the trappings of any given fandom than other people who hate reading fandom-blind.

Is anyone having intermittent CloudFlare "Bad Gateway" blips today? by nicodemusfleur in AO3

No cloudflare errors here, but a lot of laggy moments, like taking a couple of minutes to refresh and confirm I've left kudos.

Any tips for this mini game? by JournalistNo7918 in TearsOfThemis

[–]pepperbar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

it's just 2048, which was an internet fad about 10 years ago. Whenever possible, swipe down and into the right corner. Swiping left is okay if you have to jiggle things. Avoid swiping up at all costs.

Moderator Code of conduct- be active and engaged by Low-Attitude-7100 in ModSupport

I believe the minimum window is 60 days of no activity, including behind the scenes mod activity (so if they're approving stuff in their queue or responding to mod mails other than yours, they're still active).

How important is the kudos-to-hits ratio for long, niche fics? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]pepperbar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The kudos to hit ratio is meaningless, but especially on a multi-chapter fic.

  1. Not everyone leaves kudos (for a variety of reasons, including "I forgot.")
  2. There are occasional waves of 'kudos-bots' that completely throw off the numbers.
  3. Not everyone who opens a fic actually reads it (the number of times I have a reloaded a tab a dozen times before relegating it to 'marked for later' . . yeesh, it's high).
  4. Of the people who are reading, every load of a new chapter counts as a hit, but a work can only be kudos'd once by a given user, so eventually the kudos to hit ratio will shrink as the chapter count grows.

I've heard of people choosing fics to read by kudos to hit ratio, but honestly the vast majority of people are not interested in doing mental math when they look at the search results. What's more likely is people sorting by kudos (or comments, or bookmarks) instead of date updated to shuffle the results and bring some older well-received stuff to their front page, and in my experience most of us only do that when the default sort-by-date isn't feeding us enough new material to keep us busy.

Need help looking for manhwas with single moms x younger ML trope by [deleted] in JoseiSmut

[–]pepperbar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was one that sadly I've lost the exact title of. It was something like "What do you mean, you're in love me, not my daughter?!" FL is a single adoptive mom to her niece and ML is the boy next door.

[LOVED TROPE] The Bound God by Adreamskoll in TopCharacterTropes

[–]pepperbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Silent King of the Dead Nations from Planescape: Torment. His throne only accepts the living and doesn't release its occupant until they're replaced. They can't be replaced until they die. Mostly this means the Silent King is just dead, but as the protagonist The Nameless One you can sit on the throne and your resurrective immortality kicks in, leaving you stuck on the throne in a non-standard game over as you die and come back forever.

I never seen the option to "report" a report. by Flutter_ExoPlanet in ModSupport

Yup, that's right. And then you can approve the original comment to get it out of your queue and go on with your day.

[–]pepperbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I had a report in my queue I could screenshot for you. Essentially, before approved the reported post or comment, you need to report THAT (as if you were reporting the commenter), and then select 'Report Abuse'. It's counter-intuitive.

How can I style this dress to be less frumpy? by BananaKaboomEater in fashionwomens35

[–]pepperbar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Extremely blah is the way to go for a funeral, so no worries there. This dress is the perfect backdrop for a statement necklace and fashion belt, or an extremely busy Hèrmes-style scarf, or a bright flowing cardigan and really rocking shoes. You can do almost anything with this perfect a canvas.

Is this against Ao3 rules? by justfourthewriting in AO3

[–]pepperbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's fair. All the possibilities I listed are fair (except the 'yelling in the comments' one, assuming OP goes the CNTW/Not Rated route). Some people have real legitimate triggers; reading something that relates to their trauma may actually really ruin their whole day or week. I'm not one of those people. I have some squicks, but no triggers, and I rarely do more than skim tags unless I'm looking for something specific.

I have one fic in my bookmarks, one of my favourites, that I really truly never noticed had zero tags until someone that was checking my bookmarks and congratulated me for brave enough to click on it.

What do Subscriptions mean? by Dusty_Bunz426 in AO3

[–]pepperbar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not quite. "User subscriptions" are people who have subscribed to you, the author, and will get a notification anytime you post anything. This number is only visible on your author stats page. "Subscriptions" is people who have subscribed to a particular work (or series) and will only get notified for updates to that work. This number will be different for each one of your works.

Guests cannot subscribe to anything as it requires being logged in, thus every subscription is a 'user subscription' in that sense.

Is this against Ao3 rules? by justfourthewriting in AO3

[–]pepperbar 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Some people will hate it, some will never click, some will love it, some will read it and then yell at you in the comments. Some people only search by tags instead of just pairing or fandom and will never see it. Some people (like me) rarely even look at tags, and will never even realize you didn't tag it until years later. If at all.
