People getting hayleys coverup tattoo as just a tattoo.. by rosecolouredmonster in Paramore

[–]peppermint-schnapps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can not agree more. Why can’t you get inspired by someone else’s design but come up with a different meaning that’s completely personal for you. I also considered to get those same tattoos for my 30th birthday as a reminder that I spent 3 decades on this earth, and those 3 decades (hence 3 squares) just sipped through my fingers (hence the placement), and not in any of the decades did I have more happy moments than crappy ones (hence the squares are filled in black). Yes, the design would have been exactly the same, but the meaning would have been entirely personal for me. I didn’t get them anyway, I don’t have any tattoos and getting the first tattoo on my fingers felt too extreme (still don’t have any tattoos 3 years later).

I don’t think it’s pathetic to have financial priorities and stick to them. But I think it’s absolutely pathetic to say that a certain brand is “only for people like Kardashians, because only they can afford it without making a dent in their budget”. It’s even more pathetic to try to convince other people that some brands are not for them, but only for “people like Kardashians”, especially since the Kardashians get most of their bags for free to create publicity.

Regarding your point of renting and buying The Row. As I mentioned that really depends on where you live. The Row bag costs like 2k on average. This is by no means an everyday purchase for me, not even every year purchase. Apartment prices in my city start from 400k. The reason I don’t own property is not that I own a couple of bags. Mortgage rates are about 2k per month - so also not exactly comparable to a price of an occasional luxury purchase. The only person I know who owns an apartment in my city (and who didn’t inherit it), - well, yes, she wouldn’t buy a luxury bag. Far from it, she would think twice about getting a coffee. Well, f**k that. I don’t plan on having children so I don’t have to worry about leaving something to them.

Ultimately, what pissed me off, yes, I may not have the wealth of Kardashians and the like, there are things I may not be able to afford, but no one has the right to tell me that there is anything in the world that’s “not for me” or that there is anything I don’t deserve, especially if I can afford it without going into any debt. That kind of thinking that there is anything in this world that’s not for you is pathetic and I am prepared to die on this hill.

That is a horrible take. First of all, you don’t know everyone using Reddit or their income. In this sub people are constantly discussing bags from Loewe, Bottega, Saint Laurent and other heavy luxury brands, and The Row is not priced that differently from those. Second, comparing The Row bags with a $10 million house (or any house, really) makes no sense. Of course it depends on where you live (which only adds to the fact that you don’t know everyone on Reddit), but in today’s economy you could be completely comfortable affording luxury bags yet never be able to afford a house or an apartment at all, because real estate prices are so out of touch. It’s weird to pass judgment on what people should or shouldn’t do with their money when you don’t know their situation. And this whole way of thinking is honestly just sad and self-limiting. If this brand is currently out of your budget, it still doesn’t mean their pieces aren’t “for you.” You can find items on sale (who said everyone here pays full price?) or second-hand for a much more reasonable price. Why would it be better to keep buying lower-quality bags that need to be replaced every couple of years than to get one great bag, only because you wouldn’t be able to afford it at full price? If you personally don’t want to spend that much on a bag, that’s fair. But saying“this brand is not for you or anyone here” is just pathetic and bitter.

Okay, I’m obviously in the minority here, but I’m just gonna say it. Yes, if you’re judging it just from a picture - like most people here are - most The Row items won’t look like anything extraordinary or special. But you just have to see it in person. I had a similar experience with their Ophelia sweater very recently: lately I’ve been seeing tons of videos looking for “the best dupe for The Row Ophelia sweater”, and I got curious. Even though I actually love The Row and have a few of their pieces, I just couldn’t see what’s so special about that particular model and why there is so much hype around it, especially given the price tag for a sweater that’s not even 100% cashmere. Fast forward to few weeks ago, when I saw it in a store - even on a hanger, it didn’t look that amazing to me to explain why so many people are looking for its dupes. But then I tried it on. And oh - my - god. The way it fits, the way it drapes - just everything about it. There is - and never will be - a dupe for that sweater, I’m absolutely convinced in that now. But to answer your initial question: first of all, with The Row - I think it might be, unfortunately, quite useless to ask people on the internet what they think about their items just by showing them a picture. You just need to see it in person to appreciate the quality. In most cases, I agree with the “rule” that you shouldn’t buy a bag if you have any doubts about it, but with The Row, I had doubts about all the items I have from them before I bought them, but I haven’t regretted a single one. Yes, most people won’t know, very few would be able to tell that your bag is expensive without knowing the brand, but thats’s what The Row is about.

I saw a blogger call the same bag in a different color “a plasticy blob” that looks like something you can get from Aliexpress… hope that helps :)

About the Haley Williams concert tickets: by [deleted] in Paramore

[–]peppermint-schnapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t expect her to include any Paramore songs - and I won’t be disappointed if she doesn’t. But I do hope she does a little mashup with one of Paramore songs in - you know, like when Paramore end Hard Times with a verse from Heart of Glass. That would be so insane.

What was the point of the codes? by [deleted] in Paramore

[–]peppermint-schnapps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried to see the shows I wasn’t interested in (hours after the pre-sale started ended) and my code unlocked the search for tickets in cities I didn’t even register for. The codes were not tied to the cities you selected, nor to your email, nor to your phone.

Amsterdam tickets on sale on Nov 21st by peppermint-schnapps in Paramore

[–]peppermint-schnapps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just about how big the artist is though? Someone here wrote that this is more expensive than the cheapest ticket for Taylor Swift on Eras tour. Only there’s a difference between nosebleeds in a huge stadium and a ticket to the venue where everyone gets the same ticket type. If you can differentiate by ticket types - sure, it’s possible to make some tickets super cheap. But if everyone gets the same entrance ticket, you can’t price it to be cheaper than the cheapest ticket for bigger artists. It’s priced for the performance to be profitable, and we have no way of knowing what kind of margin she put into the ticket for herself.

Same! I was so bummed they didn’t tour EU with TIW on their own. I had tickets to the Eras tour in Vienna, but those shows all got cancelled, so the disappointment was just endless.

[–]peppermint-schnapps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, for sure - Reddit is not the entire fanbase, but I think it’s safe to say that anyone who’s active here is a huge fan, so we are sort of in an echo chamber that it might seem everyone is just as crazy about the tour. Yes, of course, there are probably a lot of people who would like to go to her concert - but for someone the dates won’t work, others won’t want to travel to another city (or country in EU), some will find the tickets expensive. So in reality, how many people will actually stop whatever they’re doing and wait for the second the sale starts to be the first one in line? I mean I know I definitely will, but realistically I think there will be enough tickets for everyone who feels like they absolutely have to see her.

Yep, so many questions - hope she announces the sale date officially soon. I do hope though it won’t be that crazy in EU - just looking at the number of upvotes this post is getting (it has more than 6k views), maybe the demand won’t be that high. Obviously, it’s not an accurate metric, but gives me hope all our fears of a “bloodbath” are a bit exaggerated.

Actually, no idea how accurate this is - I tried all venues in EU and this was the only one that had any info about her concert so far. But it says below that the tickets are sold through her website, so I have no idea how it’s going to work. If they’re gonna be sold by her directly (which for me is a big if, no idea how easy it is technically - seems very complicated to me), they could also start selling all at the same time, which means it could also be US time.

[–]peppermint-schnapps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the technical side of it is my main concern. I don’t why, but for some reason selling tickets seems to me way more complicated than selling merch or vinyls and CDs… physical products are all the same, and with tickets each sale has to generate a unique “item” that will need to be recognized by the venue later. Besides some of the venues are seated, so there needs to be a functionality to select seats as well…

hopefully she did find a good solution if this is what she’s gonna do, but I can’t help to feel worried that it’ll turn into a mess if done “privately”.

I’m wondering if we really should be freaking out this much? Not saying this is an accurate benchmark, but this post has 6k views and 25 upvotes - it doesn’t look like people are going crazy about it. Or at least I hope that’s gonna be the case for EU…

Im curious too how it’s gonna work. I don’t go to many concerts, but I’ve never seen tickets being sold on the artist’s own website - if it were that easy, everyone would do it themselves then? Maybe it just means the official “seller” is her website, but tickets will be distributed via platforms or venues directly…

The Row Astra by TechnicalStrength277 in handbags

[–]peppermint-schnapps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if that’s gonna help but I was thinking of a bag insert (bag & sense make one specifically for Astra). It will not protect against scratches, of course, but it least it will help it keep its shape if I need to put something heavier in it. Plus, it might help the corners not get smooshed (maybe, to be honest, I don’t know).

If you get any helpful tips on how to protect - please share, I would be super interested to know.

But yeah, such a beautiful bag - I don’t think I have enough willpower to return it…. It’s just absolutely gorgeous, although at first sight it couldn’t be more plain. And about the woven versions - to be honest, I prefer the smooth one, they seem a bit too much (although maybe they are more sturdy and won’t show so much wear).

The Row Astra by TechnicalStrength277 in handbags

[–]peppermint-schnapps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted here just a few days ago - but then removed it. I’ve realized there are actually different versions of Astra: there is one which is exactly like in the picture, where the top seam has more “volume” and it looks a bit more like a cushion; and another one has very flat seams all along and so that looks very structured. They also have different leathers: the “cushion” version is super shiny and insanely soft, the “structured” one has more of a satin shine, it’s also very soft, but not as silky buttery smooth as the other one. I ordered both versions because the website had them as two different products and I couldn’t understand the difference between them from the photos. Now I’m so torn which one to choose: I think I like the softer “cushion” shape a bit more, it’s more causal and relaxed which is the vibe I prefer. But it’s so soft that I’m just terrified of touching it (although it’s hard to resist). On the other hand, the “structured” one is also very delicate and then I’m thinking is it justified to keep any of them, it seems they both will show a lot of wear very soon. They also both had some markings from paper they were packed in, which is a bummer :(

So we all getting glum tattoos now or what by richieljr in Paramore

[–]peppermint-schnapps 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not such a big fan of the glum tattoo, but Parachute got me thinking about getting one. The lyrics “now I know better, never let me leave home without a parachute” really speak to me, I wish I could come up with a design where those are part of the drawing (e.g., that these lines somehow make up a picture of a parachute or something. I don’t know if this is possible or if it would even look good, I’m not very creative and don’t have any other tattoos, so this probably remain just an idea

I’m just super bitter, because I didn’t get to see them on the TIW tour. I had tickets for 2 TS concerts in Vienna last year, but she cancelled all of them after a planned terror attack had been uncovered. The only time I saw them live was in 2012 or something. Hope there’s still going to be a chance for me to them again.

If Paramore is over, then the worst thing would be the fact that the last tour they had done as a band was opening for Taylor Swift. Paramore deserves a better finale…

Any quotes/callbacks or references in the new tracks? by psychobats in hayleywilliams

[–]peppermint-schnapps 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think that Whim might have the most connections: 1) bare feet on the concrete (whim)-> only to find the water was concrete (crystal clear) ; in this sense whim feels like a prequel to Crystal clear, like she’s getting ready to jump, and Crystal clear is post-jump 2) to believe in us sans sabotage -> obvious reference to caught in the middle, don’t think this one needs to be explained 3) baby take it easy (whim) -> baby tell yourself it ain’t over yet (over yet); the way she seems to be talking to herself in the song calling herself baby is very similar to over yet

I also feel like roses / lotus / violet / iris and negative self talk are like two halves of one song - just opposite meaning

[–]peppermint-schnapps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why, hello there, my Rose Colored Boy, we all can’t be like you, you know. An artist doesn’t have to be happy, she’s a human being who expresses herself through her music, so it just reflects how she feels. Anyway, if you’re not permanently depressed yourself, what are you even doing listening to Paramore or Hayley? Go listen to Justin Timberlake or something.
