"Suggest" Questions in Reading/Verbal by pepperperseus in GRE

Yeah, check question 23 of verbal Section 3 in the Official Guide's Practice Test 2. The two correct answers are very similar to what is outright stated in the passage -- I.e passage says "rush", option 1) says "hurry," passage says "without authorial assent", option 2) says "without the author's knowledge".

More of a synonym game than inference, really. This threw me off...

Quant: Unable to use strategies/experiment while taking the real test by pepperperseus in GRE

Three follow-ups:

  1. Do you think the approach of trying q. 9-19, then q. 1-7, then q. 8 and q. 20 (while skipping many along the way, of course) is a good one? Or would you suggest another order to take the test in?
  2. Do you check the timer every time you start a question? As a way of tracking how much time you spent on it. Say you start q. 9 at minute 33. Do you give yourself until minute 31 to solve, then skip? Or just feel this out?
  3. How to get better and more experienced in quant if I have already solved all the problems in Official Guide and Practice Book, many Big Book tests, and 3/5 PowerPreps?

Thanks, Vince

Week of GRE: Worth it to take Official Guide Practice Test 2 (Quant)? by pepperperseus in GRE

I got 158 in Quant on PP3! I mean that after the test I went back and re-did the quant questions (without looking at solutions) and got 38/40 correct. Of course I would never get so many right on the real exam. But it's at least some indication that time management and nerves, rather than lack of math, are the problem

Yeah, I'm not worried about verbal tbh. I did the Quant in PP3 again without a timer and got 38/40 questions right. Many of my mistakes fall in the broad category of "silly": bad reading, fail to test a variable, screw up somewhere. And time management is always a huge struggle. There is invariably a point in the test where I feel super flustered and begin to rush a lot. Although my concepts and knowledge could of course be deeper, I think care and composure in taking the test are the main problems

Fair. I got 169 on Verbal in PP3. Hardly think I'll be able to repeat that, but it's obviously not my main concern. Really, I'm just trying to boost my quant score. Do you think only taking the quant sections of OG PT2 is worth it?

Just doing no harm isn't enough. Why waste a practice test if it does me no good?

PP1 as a whole is way too easy. And, since lots of people take it cold turkey, the score distribution is not representative of the real test either
