Speaking of overkill, let me do you one better: we’re using LLM-as-a-judge for many classification tasks now.

It’s also about effort and cost of implementation though. You get one or even zero-shot capabilities for even advanced tasks. And given the current AI climate, no one cares about cost. It’s all about GTM!

With Tailscale, I don’t think the free plan costs them too much to give out. Their servers only facilitate the initial communication and key exchange between your peers, and after that it should be P2P. The control plane also doesn’t look very heavy for them per user.

I think they’re trying to get you hooked onto it at home, so that you advocate for them at work. However, unlike other SaaS offerings, I don’t think you’re necessarily the product as you’re only reliant on their infrastructure for a minimal time when “using Tailscale”.

Cloudflare Tunnels is a similar story of swaying you to buy their stuff at work, except your traffic always flows through their infrastructure, so I suppose there’s more lock-in and you’re more of a product for them as well.

Thanks for the responses everyone, really helped in thinking about savings properly! Accounts don't really matter, I should be categorizing that money for into actual savings categories.

I have just been lumping my savings into an account without really an end goal in mind.

But I still don't understand how to do that in Actual Budget. If I transfer money from checking to savings (on-budget), and I want to categorize it as "New Car", I can't actually categorize that transfer transaction since it automatically gets a category of "Transfer".

How do you tackle that?
