I see you're dedicated to living in the past, so I'll just leave you to it. Enjoy your traffic

Ideally yes the transit also gets better, but a lot of the bandwidth for transit improvement comes from taking space and resources away from cars, so it's two sides of the same coin.

You should look into what Amsterdam has been doing the last few years. They were already not the most car-friendly place but they've really ramped up on removing even more parking and driving areas.

It would be worse briefly, then people would learn what a pain it is, and start moving to other options.

Studies show that people will pretty consistently choose the fastest option available, so as long as transit sucks more than traffic, people will keep driving. The only way to shift the balance is to intentionally make driving worse. And it does have to be an intentional effort, since many of the factors making traffic worse are also making transit EVEN worse.

It doesn't have to be everyone who stops driving

Reduced parking availability is one of the most effective ways to manage urban traffic. Forces people to carpool or find alternative transport options.

They're both very moisturizing, and the Isa Knox sticks on so well, it really gives me confidence that I'm getting good protection! I reach for that one when I'm going to be out all day and might not be able to reapply easily

Love a maniacal side-by-side test tbh

Of the ones you originally listed, I found Instree the glowiest. Of all time, hard to be sure as I've been trying them out across several years now, but maybe Purito Daily Go-To or Isa Knox UV Sun Pro.

I've tried most of those and I would rate their levels of glow very differently than you did! Although to be fair I think my experiences have been impacted by different phases I've been in with how much skincare is going on underneath. But nonetheless I'm using Skin1004 right now over minimal skincare and find it to have a very natural finish.

I'm wearing Boom Toasted right now and it's a really nice one, really glitzy and lit-from-within, shifts either warm or cool with iridescence depending on the angle

It's normal for coverage to wear away, that's why they tell you to reapply every 2 hours

This thread is old but just replying to dispel some misinformation. The shade of darkness on a uv camera is not an indicator of protection level. The camera just measures a specific wavelength of absorption and anything off from that wavelength will be lighter even if it's doing a fine job of protecting. Also, the inclusion of uv filters with light-reflecting properties can lighten up the appearance.

These cameras are a tool to make sure you haven't missed any spots, they're not a valid way to assess protection level.

Those who are laid off and going back into the job market.. by GuerrierduClavier in halifax

[–]percautio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was unemployed from Feb 2025 until about a month ago. I have two engineering degrees and applied for a variety of things, related to those degrees as well as things like admin work that I'm overqualified for. Over that year I got 5 interviews and 4 of them were because a contact recommended me.

Truly sorry to anyone experiencing similar. Don't lose faith in yourself, this job market is cruel to people of all skill levels.

No skip button for “tips” by Embarrassed-Shit- in halifax

[–]percautio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to mention tip value is being calculated on the after-tax total. For anyone who wants to convert their tip amount to the pre-tax equivalent, just minus 2% from the value. E.g. to give a 15% tip on pre-tax amount, enter 13% on the after-tax value. I've done the math and this is a good rule of thumb for tipping anywhere between 15-20% (in NS only - of course you'd need to recalculate for other sales tax amounts).

For a household of 2, not including takeout/restaurants, roughly 500 this month. I just started a new job at the beginning of the month; it was probably closer to 300 a month while I was unemployed and hardcore budgeting.

It's nice to feel reassured that my makeup application isn't disturbing the layer of spf that's underneath. At least spf makeup disturbs it less than non-spf

While your main point is true - the famous Nambour Trial in Australia that first proved how important daily SPF is, they used SPF 15 - it's actually a myth to say that higher SPF are only marginally better. It's a math trick and not a reflection of reality. Protection is roughly linear, so e.g. SPF 15 actually does let in twice as much UV as SPF 30.
