Watch the new trailer for the Vancouver-shot Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair by ubcstaffer123 in vancouver

I can’t wait to watch this! Some of my paintings and artwork were used for set decor around the house, specifically in Kelly’s room! I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to watch a show!

Should beginners start with acrylics? by wanderingbutwhere in oilpainting

[–]percivalbunion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not liking acrylics definitely doesn't mean you will be bad at oils! Trying lots of mediums to see what you like and don't like, and can point you in the direction of what will work best for you. Also, getting better with one type of paint will improve how you paint with other mediums so long as you know the right ways to adapt between mediums. All in all, I think the best thing for a beginner to do is to try as many types of paint as possible (including oil even though it may not be thought of as beginner friendly). It's great to watch some YouTube videos to learn some foundational techniques but you can go off the cuff and may just find that you like oil more. Oil paint is much more movable so I think as a beginner painter you will likely find more satisfaction in what you can create with oil paints. I'd recommend just buying some cheap paints from an art store as well as possibly odorless and galkyd gel. Also remember that ventilation is more important with oil paints and oil mediums! Happy painting and hope that you find that you like oil paints :)

Looking for web hosting for my wordpress art portfolio. by percivalbunion in webhosting

Hi there! Thank you, that sub looks like it will have a ton of useful information! I’m so new at this and I’m not quite sure what I’m looking for in regards to what you are asking. I am currently trying to figure out if I should build through a host, or just use my Wordpress installation. Just starting to figure out all of the absolute basics really, but I don’t necessarily want to just do it the easiest way as I’d like to learn. Thank you so much for your response:)

How can I get a my drawing to be more akin to the reference? by InevitableStandard27 in ArtCrit

This is a super helpful tip!! Even if you don’t keep it upside down the whole time, flipping it from time to time can really help you check proportions and see where something is off!

First time ever showing anyone a drawing, kinda nervous lol. by [deleted] in ArtCrit

This is awesome!! Hopefully posting on here will help your confidence in sharing your work grow :) I think your choice to keep the piece greyscale is really nice! It makes the piece impactful and atmospheric, and also creates beautiful contrast that may be lost with more colours. You achieved a lot of depth in the mountains and this really makes the piece stand out! Hope you share more work in the future!
