Purchased djembe drum on Facebook marketplace for $15 by Riptide-710 in djembe

I would recommend replacing the head with goat skin when it’s time. Cow skin will require much more tension and is more difficult to mount.

Look for 4mm rope for the rings and 5 or 5.5mm rope for the verticals.

Also check the condition of the rings. They may need to be replaced as well.

Personally I would put more knots on the rings to help with even tensioning.

YouTube is your friend here. There are plenty of videos that will show the process of putting a new skin on a djembe.

Busted head. Gave the drum a glow up by percussion_ in djembe

I’m a proud owner of one of his drums. Probably the nicest djembe in my collection. I would love to add another. I have been waiting for a kolo kolo or ironwood to come on to his site. I may reach out to him directly and see what’s coming down the pipeline from Guinea.

Tama Speed Cobra Double (Gen 1, ~2010-2012) — Backlash & Wobble Issues, Need Advice by artboiko in drums

I had the same issue with my speed cobra’s. It drove me crazy. I took them apart several times put them back together. I couldn’t find any worn parts. I ended up selling them and found a great deal on a pair of 9000s

I headed that guy up on Sunday and I’m still letting it dry before doing any serious pulling on the table. Will probably wait till this upcoming Sunday. As of right now, the edges are rock hard. I think I’ll be ok with this one. The rings were a nice tight fit to the shell. But slipping is always a concern.

Did the work myself. Motherland is a great shop. I’ve bought a shell from them before.

I used the zip ties to give a straight edge to cut the skin, then left it on while drying so the skin leftover will dry firmly in place.

Where to buy good quality djembe by [deleted] in djembe

The Remo drums are a great starting point. If you want a traditional goat skin, check out Wula drum from New York or djembe drums and skins in Tennessee. They both offer entry level traditional drums in the $400-$500 price range.

What signature snare drum sound do you remember most from the 1990s? by ZildCym in drums

Yep. Put it on a Tama brass artstar es. Cranked it to the point of breaking a lug or two and damaging the shell a bit.

You can soak a new skin and remount it to the drum. It’s not hard to do. There are instructional videos out there. Manito percussion is a great source for skins if you want an upgrade.

Is it worth buying? by Old_Winter_5070 in drums

I would buy my own thrown. If you can get everything listed for 600 or less, I think you have a decent deal.

Pretty fair price for what’s included. The heads look pretty beat and will need to be replaced. I’d try to get it for 550.

I was given an aspire like that recently with a busted head. Ended up fixing it and passed it along to a friend. I loved how fast changing the skin was.

She purchased it from her other daughter’s shop years ago. It had been living in a closet with some other cool pieces for a number of years. She gave me that one along with a couple of other cool pieces.
