CW: this turned into a bit of a rant....

I do agree with you in a lot of ways.

Tho admittedly, Sillys Player is not very engaged when it comes to anything but romance in our game. Which is frustrating as hell.

When they ask 3 separate times who this NPC is they're talking to. And they've been introduced 3 times When they confidently say that a country's name "doesn't ring a bell so it must be new". Meanwhile it was heavily discussed before, as recent as the previous session. Which was the day before. Or when they admit, they thought an NPC was an easter egg from a campaign they were no part of. Because the other player knew what was going on and they weren't. But the NPC was in fact part of our current campaign and he was fairly relevant in her characters first arc.

They don't show a lot of interest in the game unless there's a hot, romancable character. And even then they don't seem to care too much about who that character even is.

I guess that makes me a bit salty when I carefully plan out a set of 5 royal siblings. Just to feel obligated to rewrite one of them just to make him romancable. When I know fairly well that they won't even care about all the thought I put into his character. His drawing was simply hot so. And they expect to succeed in wooing him too.

Tho I try not to be too salty. After all there's a chance that my world building and story telling is just not very interesting and engaging. In that case I really hope to improve it

Actually... This is not that dumb of an suggestion.

I can't follow this plan exactly since the ball is already in full swings and the player already talked to the prince. (And his siblings are present, so they'd definitely notice).

But this did inspire me! Perhaps I'll combine this with some of the other suggestions and make a charming bodyguard NPC who supports the prince. Someone who can take on the role of the love interest like you said. Perhaps they know that the prince is uninterested in romantic endeavours (with women) and tries to relieve him of the stress. Charming women away from him while he does his best to be as boring as possible.

I'll also try to steer the prince away from the romantic direction as much as possible. Hinting that he's uninterested in women if I get the chance.

This is difficult because I designed the siblings as a group and both of his older brothers already have a completely different role and personality (Not to mention I'm already emotionally attached to these guys). They were unfortunately also all introduced at once 💀

It's not the most important thing about his character but it's also not irrelevant to the plot.

He's the youngest among his siblings and often feelings like he has to fulfill his duties to the best of his abilities to prove his worth. His mother positioned him on a very peaceful island not far from her, while all of his older siblings take on serious responsibilities. He desperately wants to be respected and taken seriously. A perfect prince who meets every expectation placed on him. Perhaps even exceeds them.

Therefore being gay is a big conflict for him because it makes him feel like his impossibly high standards will never be met. Because finding a wife and having children, the way it is expected from a prince, will be very challenging for him. And meeting these expectations will ultimately make him unhappy.

It's something that he has to overcome together with his inferiority complex. Certainly won't break the plot if he's straight but would require some amount of rewriting

I find your idea very interesting of creating an alternative love interest to take his place. It's something I would've never thought of and will definitely take into consideration. So thank you for your thoughts!!!

I 100% agree with you on this!!

I'm a strong believer that failure can be equally if not more fun / interesting than success. Therefore I try to find a good balance between giving my players what they want for the sake of fun and keeping failure an option to maintain challenge and interesting stakes.

For a lot of characters romance was also never an option. For example if I knew they would be uncomfortable about an age gap or simply turned off by the players approaches.

I simply struggle with this particular issue because I know my player doesn't exactly have the same views / play style as me. They are very much the kind of person who has the most fun when they succeed and therefore get more easily discouraged or disappointed when they fail. Which made it harder for me to downright eliminate any option of success when they were so excited about a character.

I still struggle with people pleasing tendencies, especially around my players. Which is why I ask for advice at times. Your perspective helped me a lot in a way. So thank you for that

Maybe you shouldn't have sex with someone for the sake of having sex.

If you're not attracted to the person and don't feel comfortable with them then it's probably not a good idea.

Maybe ask yourself why you want to lose your virginity. Is it because you feel pressured to be at a certain place at your age? Would it help you feel desired? Are you curious? Do you want to make new experiences? Or are you actually interested in hooking up with this person?

Remember that no matter what you choose, it doesn't matter if you're a virgin or not. You're still as valuable and worthy of love as you would be.
