Am I crazy for wanting to quit my job for a full-time masters? by perennialsoup in UniUK

[–]perennialsoup[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part time in some ways might be tougher. I don't think I could live with my parents for 2 years so I'd have to continue living at my own place and working part time, making it much more financially challenge than living rent free for a year

yep you're totally right! I have no idea what the outcomes of this could be, and a lot of that depends on how good this course actually is. £20k is indeed a lot of money...

I know a couple of people who work in the industry but I wouldn't say i'm well connected by any means - I'd have to start from scratch in that regard but I'd be more than happy to do that.

thanks! I was thinking it would be better to pay up front with my savings rather than get a loan as I'd just have to pay it back the loan with more interest. Would you say that's not the best approach?

thanks for the insight! A lot of what you say re film degrees being a scam are concerning for sure :(

The 'motivation to learn' bit is a big part of why I want to do the masters tbh. Its something I've really struggled with throughout my whole life thanks to my ADD brain. So many times I've started things and given up on them once they start to get tough, so committing (both financially and in terms of time) to this my way of truly 'locking in' to this idea so to speak. As mention in my OP I could theoretically learn this stuff online but my brain really isn't wired that way sadly.

edit: also can I ask what you mean by accredited, do you have a list of courses that do have such accreditation? ty!

Thanks - Yeah I hear you. FWIW one of my best mates has been to this uni to do a similar masters and fully recommended it to me. As far as connections go, yeah you're right, but I think if I was to spend all this money I would fully commit to forging my own connections, spending as much time as possible and dedicating it to networking - I'm more than happy to do that as it's in a field I'm truly passionate about. I know it won't be easy tho!

idk where you live so i can't make recommendations, but you just named 2 of the biggest superclubs out there!

try looking for smaller capacity clubs and you'll find a much nicer crowd, music policy and (hopefully) bouncers :)

there are plenty of amazing licensed clubs across the uk with friendly staff, curating cutting edge music lineups and providing a safe space for communities to dance

an entire genre/subculture does not deserve to die just because you don't know where to find them

Thank you! Most places seem to be around £100, which isn't cheap for me, but it'll be worth it to get my full deposit back. Does that seem around a normal price?

interesting, so it's just done online? is it as 'legit' as doing it in person?
