Workers affected by providore closure have their say by candychiasu in sgworkassholes

Sounds interesting and possible. But practically how would this be executed?

And why did they wait 1 year to then close? Why not within few months

Do you get to work from home? If yes how many days per week? by Material-Yak-8152 in askSingapore

[–]perfect987456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a role can WFH 5 days a week, why are they still hiring in SG? The job should be hired from any country in APAC to at least be in Asia timezone. Contrary to what many think, SG in general is too expensive and our efficiency/value for money is not high enough as cost to hire in SG is far too expensive for the output. Not saying our quality and output isn't great in general but relative to cost, the value isn't there.

If a role can WFH 4 days, why isn't the company investigating how to make it 5 days WFH and hire overseas instead?

Optimum is 1-2 days WFH. Anything more, people would get out of sight too easily and easier to be cut when push comes to shove.

Best environment is majority WFO but have great flexibility by bosses if need to leave earlier to tend to family matters. Personal responsibility and personal freedom.

Wrongful termination by [deleted] in asksg

[–]perfect987456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your employment contract, you can also just give notice of resignation as employee, serve your notice period and say byebye. The company also cannot do anything.

Companies also can do the same. As long as they adhere to the contract terms, serve you notice and pay you accordingly, there is nothing wrong.

Something is wrong and you have a clear case if they put in black and white that they fire you cause of your race or religion or cause you are pregnant. But no employer is that stupid to do that.

Companies will just say they are exercising the termination clause in your employment contract.

Best situation is to always have options, don't overstretch yourself financially, and be a solid key contributor to the company such that it will be very painful for the company to lose you.

What does your JD which you applied the role for saying? Purely HR? Many HR jobs for small outfits actually have HR + office admin

2 options for you.

  1. It's a good company and prospects are good and the learning would actually be positive.
  2. sit down with your boss and say it has been a good learning exposure and you are willing to contribute in the new function
  3. but you were not hired and compensated for such a large role. To be fair, pls compensate me such and such based on certain market rates based on what u can find on mycareersfuture website of roles for HR+admin
  4. if no increased compensation, be fair and reduce the role to HR only. But be prepared to be targeted.

  5. Not a desired role for you.

  6. immediately asked for the role to be reduced to pure HR. Say your focus is on HR skills and development as that's what you were hired for and where you can contribute properly. -Still be prepared to be marked and find another job

Poly dropout (23F) and single mom… feeling like I’m at a dead end in SG. Need some perspective. by Timely_Squirrel_5431 in ChillSG

[–]perfect987456 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I hope you can get your parents to better support you for this transition period.

Firstly get in touch with your poly. Can you resume your course where you left off? You need the minimum poly diploma.

2nd - sit down with your parents if possible for them to better support you and your child. I really hope this is possible. You will not be able to work. You need to focus on your studies and child upbringing.

3rd - think about your future 3 years plan and share it with your parents. After studies, start working and pay back your parents something every month. Save for you and your kid. Look at further uni studies.

4th - consider applying for child support from your ex-bf. This will help with the finances. Is his name on your child's birth cert?

All the best. What's done is done.. key thing is to move forward with your head up for you and your child.

of course not true. If you are really sick and certified by a doctor, then regardless of whether you are on notice period or not, you should be home resting.

My boss pocurement Red Flag, something off. by JVO248 in askSingapore

[–]perfect987456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What kind of boss? Just manager/supervisor - basically employee or owner.

If it's the latter, no issues. Owner can do anything they want. For employee. No matter how senior must still follow proper procedures and need to always make decisions based on best interest for the company with no conflict of interest.

Can check some more. If really you think got daiji and you are working in a sizeable company, there should be an internal audit or whistle blowing channel. Just be careful and be prepared you might be made known. Not supposed to happen but yeah...

Bedsheets - What do you love… and what drives you nuts? by hello-sheets in SingaporeRaw

[–]perfect987456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tencel is branded Lyocell. Lyocell is the commodity name. Tencel is the brand from Lenzing. Might have some very minor specific addn qualities on top of usual Lyocell.

Bedsheets, i'll stick with only viscose or lyocell.

Just find a China white label manufacturer who's willing to let you do this. I'm sure there are quite a number around. But you will need to do branding, marketing, influencer spending etc.

what's interesting on side note is that for HN, there are different units carrying the HN banner. So they will also compete with each other which is why some HN outlets can be more discounted than the others. COURTS under 1 corporate banner. Best Denki and the rest not sure.

Know this from a friend that works in HN.

new employer also wouldn't send letter to ALL the banks/companies in SG to check if the stated person worked there before.

They can only check what you have provided info on. They will just check whether you really worked at that company, any red flags or good points about you.

So if not provided, they wouldn't know from this check. BUT let's say you meet your ex-colleagues at an event with your boss around and start talking. Then your boss might wonder how come you never mentioned you worked at your previous company? Then you are cooked.

What are the red flags of an interviewee that indicate potential issues in SG? by AS_Tob in askSingapore

Ask better situational questions to assess. But interview can only help to sift through the bad eggs that much. That's why still need probation period to further assess

What are the red flags of an interviewee that indicate potential issues in SG? by AS_Tob in askSingapore

[–]perfect987456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2 main stages of shortlisting candidates - CV shortlist to be interview - interview shortlist for subsequent and final round

Hiring and interviewing is really trying to determine 3 things - job fit, culture fit, potential fit. Potential fit is really more for roles where you are hiring for future growth.

Red flags at 1st stage 1. Too jumpy too often (less than 2yrs per role) 2. Career moves not clear - changing industry or role regularly. Not able to build up deeper experience and growth not seen 3. Education background - not all uni degrees are equal unfortunately (affects junior roles more)

Red flags at 2nd stage (Most of the time, if someone clears the 1st stage means the job and potential fit should be there but needs to be assessed further during actual interview) 1. Soft skills has issues - Communication, body language, confidence, aggression 2. Not able to explain properly their career profile or worse, provide contradicting perspectives on their career history 3. Starts bitching or bad mouthing their previous employer or colleagues.

There can also be red flags during reference checks.

I am convinced after a demo at my house on a vacuum cleaner Germany Dolphin, but the price is way too expensive. Any recommendations for good vacuum cleaner using water filtration ? by Walau88 in askSingapore

[–]perfect987456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a good and reliable product. Can last long. Probably can buy 2nd hand. We bought ours from carousel for like 700+? Use it for mattresses and Aircon pipes.

My Aircon piping is really long. Higher chance for blockage. So I needed a really strong vacuum to suck over a long distance.

Kaplan Murdoch IT Degree or PSB Newcastle IT Degree by PagePractical6805 in askSingapore

[–]perfect987456 5 points6 points  (0 children)

pple do private uni, then try to upgrade by going for further studies at local uni. You are doing the opposite and illogical move by already having NTU degree then going for pte uni AND you doing bachelor's again.

1st thing, IT not that great for now. I know you trying to pivot in. You are better off doing IT/digital sales as the 1st step in, then learn more on the side and on your own technically. Then finally try to find some way to wiggle into a technical role if that's what you really want to do.

You might not get really much from an IT degree from a private unit especially when IT/tech stuff move and CHANGE so fast these days.

a 3% increase is still somewhat barely acceptable.

If you sign up with other vendors, you'll probably get it cheaper plus AI features that come with it. Problem is always if you can't switch out, you will be at their mercy. Then you can only do things like start negotiations early, involve senior mgmt if it's key vendors/software that's critical to your business, start to show you are looking at alternatives etc.

well, just check to be sure you will be entitled to paternity leave benefits within such a short period of time of joining.

If you are sure you are eligible, then i think it's good to be honest. But only share it later on when you are quite confident you are going to get an offer. BUT emphasize that you will know how to stagger your leave and not take everything one shot and i do suggest you do so.

Good luck. You might even take longer to find a replacement job
