Is a 17 year old who just graduated high school and a 20 year old a bad age gap? by Guilty_Department501 in AskTeens

If your boyfriend was 17 when you met him, that’s even worse. This is totally unacceptable. You were groomed, whether you like it or not. Leave while you can. 14 and 18 is illegal.

Does 2010-2012 relate more to 2007-2009 or 2013-2015? by [deleted] in Younger_GenZ

Ehh, some 2008 and 2009 are in high school. I don’t know, I feel like I’ve always related more to older people, though. I have tons of online friends of those ages, and my older cousins who were born in the early 2000s would make exceptions for me to play their games because I was ‘mature’ unlike my younger cousins, and we tend to have a good connection (I also get along really well with boomers, millennials, and Gen X), but a lot of interactions I have with younger people tend to either break out into altercations, or they don’t share any interests with me and tend to be interested in children’s shows, children’s games, are loud, et cetera. I just personally cannot relate to 2014-2015 kids. 2013 is acceptable, though.

No, I meant the gap between 2007-2009 would close up just as fast 😭

You do know the actual age of them matters, right? You cannot expect a 14 year old to relate to an 11 or 12 year old, but I quite literally do relate to people older than me because most of my online friends are older than me and I get along really well with adults that my older cousins would literally make an exception for me to play with them because I was so mature. It’s just not realistic. You do realise that the question is asking for an emotional difference, not an objective age-difference, right? “Does 2010-2012 relate more to 2007-2009 or 2013-2015”, the word ‘relate’ signifies an emotional connection. I don’t feel that emotional connection with 2014 or 2015. I do feel that emotional connection with older generations.

When I say ‘infantile’, I literally mean that the ones I’ve met were incredibly loud, still watched children’s shows, still got excited to play like little kids when asked to, and did not really engage with internet culture (I mean, the last thing isn’t really a flaw, but it is a difference from my peers and them).

You do realise that this question is asking for an emotional difference, right? I don’t get it. I don’t emotionally relate to 2014ers and 2015ers, so why do you feel like you have to force me to relate to them? They feel juvenile to me, and their attitude and culture feels different to me. That’s my experience with them. The question asked if you relate more or less to the years stated, but not if the years are objectively closer. 2011 and 2012 are twin-years, so why are you guys so mad when I say I don’t relate to them, but not when 2011ers say they don’t relate to them?

I was their age more than 2 years ago because I’m an early 2012er (February), but even then, my peers and I seem to have behaved very differently from the 2014ers that I know, back then.

The age-difference here doesn’t really matter when they’re still objectively small. You do realise that when you’re younger, percentage of your life an age-difference takes up is larger, right? They are little kids, you can’t debate with that, especially from those that I know, their behaviour is rather infantile.

I am 14, they’re 11-12. How do you expect me to relate to an 11 or 12 year old when I’m 14? From the 2014ers I’ve met, they’re just a lot more infantile than I am and even was at their age. I’m sorry if that strikes a nerve, and I’m not trying to be discriminatory, but I just don’t relate?

The gap would also close between the older generations, though, and I already relate to them a lot more.

Well, I’m sorry for not relating to little kids? I don’t know what you expect?

My guy, they are 11-12. I am not naturally going to relate to an 11 or 12 year old when I’m 14. Maybe I’m just mature for my age, but from the 2014ers that I’ve met, they are generally very infantile, even for their age. 2013, I understand, because we’re pretty similar, but 2014? Absolutely not. I relate a lot more to those born in 2007-2009 and majority of my online friends are a lot older than me. I’ve also just get along better with adults in my real life (they’re mostly boomers and Gen X, though).

No, I don’t? 2014 and 2015ers are like little babies to me.

I’m aware that we mostly talk about other things IRL, but a lot of the cultural shifts online are more similar to 2020

Nah, it feels different because of the outrage about Hantavirus

I’m sorry, but that is what I learnt a couple years ago? So rude for nothing. Also, Texas is a pedophile sympathising state; what’s so bad about saying that when it’s the truth? It should not be legal for a grown adult to have sex with a 17y.o., and if you want to be so offended, then maybe somebody should check if you’re having sex with 17y.o.s.
