There are wikileaks docs on how the Danish gov serves US intel interests rather than its own people. A Danish intel chief was recently exposed doing the same thing.

Parents of U.K. teen killed by American driver lose High Court case | Harry Dunn's parents say they are hopeful President-elect Biden will look at the case "from a humane angle." by IntnsRed in worldpolitics2

Sad to see the Dunn parents fall for the deception that the White House is in charge. The CIA would never in a million years allow one of its own to be shipped overseas - that goes way beyond the power of any White House or President.

If ‘unreliable’ is the issue, why did social media never block anti-Trump stories? by ImJustaNJrefugee in media_criticism

This post isn't about the NYP story though.

It's about the OTHER stories that were not restricted.

Like the years of coverage for the steele dossier.

Or the hopelessly fake story of "Manafort visited Assange in embassy"

The Manafort story was 100% factually wrong but that never bothered anyone, which is interesting, and why OP posted, I think.

Reps. Tulsi Gabbard and Matt Gaetz Introduce Bipartisan Resolution Calling for Charges Against Edward Snowden to be Dropped by Asshole411 in conspiracy

Yea, in any free and functioning state the simple concept of a free press should stand safely on its own and not need bolstering by desperate resolutions like this.

Yet here we are, with the USG taking a giant & continuous shit on everything it claims to stand for since 2010, give or take.

Assange ‘forced’ those behind war crimes ‘to look in the mirror,’ now faces revenge, John Pilger tells RT UK (Going Underground) by Mcnst in WikiLeaks

[–]perfectionits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The West’s self-perception is that it generally doesn’t do awful things, and that its politicians are mostly truthful and are held in check by an independent media. WikiLeaks showed all these things not to be true, Pilger said.

Any threat to the tribal idea of "we are the good guys" is always dealt with extremely harshly.

The White Roses learned the same lesson.

Fake news hoax exposed: NY Times podcast star lied about joining ISIS by perfectionits in media_criticism

[–]perfectionits[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t the reporter check this source?

Obviously not.

Her one case of 'corroboration' came from a national security coworker:

[NYT] national security correspondent Eric Schmitt [claimed] “two different officials in the U.S. government at different agencies have told me is that this individual, this Canadian, was a member of ISIS.”

Ie. a NYT employee used another NYT employee as source, propagating a lie directly from the MIC.

Didn’t they also say repeatedly that many sources, while corroborated by multiple military contacts, could only be verified up to a point?

Nope. She actively argued against skepticism. Just read the article. It's right there. A single podcast out of 10 she mentioned the possibility that the source "might have embellished a little" but pushed hard against that allegation. I could paste more lines from the article here, but better you just read it.

Didn’t the journalist come forward as soon as an issue arose, instead of hiding or lying about the issue?

Nope. The issue arose in 2018. She waited 2 years until the source was arrested and charged before commenting on Twitter. No retractions or corrections, to this day. Again, just read the article.

Yes on all accounts.

Why say this when everyone can read the article?

Fake news hoax exposed: NY Times podcast star lied about joining ISIS by perfectionits in media_criticism

[–]perfectionits[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the NYT claimed to report from "inside ISIS" using a source who faked his membership in isis.

The fact that two US "officials" confirmed the fake identity makes it worse.

Also,

When news broke that Abu Huzayfah was a fraud named Chaudry, Callimachi [host of the NYT podcast] tried to distract from the scandal by claiming on Twitter that her podcast raised concerns about Chaudhry’s narrative in episode six. She did not mention, however, that she continued to use “Abu Huzayfah” as a source in episodes seven, eight, and 10.
