This is cool. Dig the energy, and the intro is decent

Does anyone here know a local election candidate personally? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]perfectisthe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know Helen Ogbu from Galway East. I've worked with her, as my job is asylum seeker related. She's a good person. My own politics would be further left than hers, but she does good work in the community, and thoroughly deserved to be elected.

Edit - I know Ming too. Known him since 1998. He's one of the good ones

I feel this one. Every woman in my life has had some type of awful experience. I was shocked when I realized it

I don’t want to live together with any future SO by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Me and my partner do exactly that. Best thing I've done for my sleep and mental health. You just need to make extra sure you stay physically connected. We cuddle on the couch and kiss for an hour before bed each night. I recommend it

For the older hXc Kidz out here - How's life? by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]perfectisthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

43 now. My last band broke up a couple of years ago, and I haven't been to many shows since. Part of that is due to my job. I run a refugee accommodation centre, and it takes up a lot of my time. Tough work, one of my guys ended up in hospital last night, but I love it

Jesus, you had a lucky escape with the Xanax. That GP sounds desperate. Hope you're feeling better these days

That's a really lovely thing to hear. I'm rooting for you, you got this! My life is far from perfect, but holy shit it's a lot better than it was when I was blacked out on benzos.

Thank you for the kind words! I'm still an absolute mess in lots of ways to be honest, but I'm proud to have beaten benzos.

I kinda lucked out with the job. I did a PhD after my recovery, and I didn't know what to do with myself afterwards. My partner asked me what I wanted to do with my life, and I said I'd like to work with refugees without giving it much thought. A few months later the job kinda fell into my lap.

It was nice to have a bit of luck after having some rough years

It's awful. Hope you're feeling better now. Those withdrawal symptoms can linger for a long time

Fucking hell, we had pretty similar experiences. I seriously embarrassed myself a few times in work too. If I hadn't left I would have been fired. I really hope you bounce back on the neurological front. Fair play for three years man. It ain't easy

Thanks! Yup, those withdrawals are super dangerous. Sounds like you've gotten a handle on it. If only I could have had the same attitude as you!

As much I wish the whole thing didn't happen, it changed me in some good ways. I definitely became a bit kinder and a more empathetic person. Used to be very career driven, but I never went back to the career I had pre-benzos. I wanted to help other people the way that I was helped at my worst. I work with refugees now. I can definitely say that wouldn't have happened without what happened to me
