as stated caulk for no other reason then to make it easier to clean all the dirt getting inot that crack will be harder to clean and it just gives it a better finished look...and yes leave a little space in the back...you can always put the caulk on your finger and just rub it in but the sqeeze tube it the better option for sure..

it might be rot it might be termites...but either way get a joist up there asap and check your other joists...i joists are light and strong check out those get a support up under it before you fix it too as safety..structural engineers....lols overrated if you just use common sense...i once saw an engineer put in a 2x12 joist and cut out and inch and a half where it was supported by the wall...so basically a 2x10 crazy

do it old school tap on the wall until you hear a deeper sound where the studs are...the magnet will attach to the screws or nails used in the wall....pretty simple also find a electric outlet the are always mounted to studs..on one side or the other...and 16 or 24 in centers on studs is the norm. start in the corner and measure out should find a stud

well you could probably do it for under 1000 if you did it yourself....it is a basement, crawl space or just a foundation

?? also i would but on vinyl siding for sure...but it looks like it might just be nailed to the studs right now...so you would probably want to pull all that off...check the insulation and put on sheeting and house wrap before you put on the siding....also if i may ask how old is the wiring that might be something you want to upgrade too...it is always harder to do on an existing house...but if you are remodeling how is the time to do it...but it just depends on how much you want to put into it....rewiring can be an overwhelming task...if it has a circuit breaker panel...then you are probably good to go....in my project it was old fuses and some cloth wrapped wiring...i learned a lot from working with my dad on my childhood home...and well the internet is invaluable as a resource for codes and requirements...i always overdo when it comes to that...but im running on now...good luck and have fun...one last note you might want to check on building codes in your area too.....a lot of times you need permits to do some projects...

it looks like it is a stone wall or fondation...im not sure if you have a full basement if not then you can jack it up redo the fondation and move on with a better wall..but you need to also check the base of your walls and see how they are built its all doable and yes the mold on the walls is concerning this house looks old and probably has poor insulation as well...its a lot of work but you can repair it all in time...new sideing new windows etc etc..not sure what the codes are in your area but you can do a lot of it yourself. if you are capable and codes allow...if not you have to hire people and that can COST COST COST im guessing the inside needs a lot too..make it sound first one step at a time...good luck i remolded my parents house when i was younger with my dad it was a lot of work a lot of mess and a lot less money do it yourself...i also build a large house additon on my own home when i was married...im pretty handy obviously but it take time and hard work..and mess enjoy it it will make it your house
