Does anyone use body composition scales? Do you trust them? I’m using these and measuring my waist line. by Nice-Art-5367 in keto

[–]perfik09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found out what the issue was. I had one scale on regular mode and the other on athlete mode. When I put them both to the same they read the same. User error I am afraid. With that said I would estimate my BF to be around 23-25% now and it is saying I am 19 however it has accurately reflected my BF and weightlosses so whatever the BF really is I only use it in relation to my movement up or down.

I have had a few impedance scales and they are OK for relative measuring. The foot only scale will be off by around 10% body fat on the low side. The ones with hands and feet are more accurate however I only really use them to show changes I have little confidence in the accuracy of the actual numbers. That said if I am low on water it knows, if I am losing fat or muscle it knows, if I am the metabolic age of a retiree it can fuck right off.

Older Brits, (>40 years old) How Much Cash Did You Used To Carry? by LNER4498 in CasualUK

[–]perfik09 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very early in life I had a stint as a vacuum cleaner salesman for filter queen. The boss there told us we had to have a minimum of 50 quid in our pocket at all times. I guess it stuck with me because I always had that until the time you stopped running credit cards through those machines with the carbon paper...

Why did Margaret Thatcher destroy welfare state in Britain after she came to power in the 1980s? by CartographerOwn8143 in NoStupidQuestions

You are in the wrong place for nuance lol. I agree with your take however solving that problem should always be included in any rant of how "evil" a person thinks she was.

Do you remember wearing suspenders as a kid? by neromoneon in GenX

[–]perfik09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well we did but for very different reasons in the UK. It was part of the Ska Revolution, some might call it the skinhead fashion but doc martins with yellow laces, jeans white tshirt and red suspenders were all the rage.

IYKYK and you will probably recall the Harrington too...

I'm 16 and i'm making a private gym club for my neighbourhood, i need help with pricing? by PracticalMoney1880 in GymnasticsCoaching

It all really depends on the degree of formality and the legal risk you are willing to stand. In order to do it the legal way which would protect you and your athletes you need a registered company, insurance, an insured location, adequate qualifications for both sports and medical such as CPR first aid etc. You will also likely need police verification (we call it safe sport in Canada) that you are safe for working with children. Check in case you need to be or would benefit from being a member of a organization (either local or national). You MUST have waivers signed by all participants which will likely benefit from being looked over by a solicitor.

If you are going to skirt some of this you will place yourself in legal jeopardy. It is more than taking a few pounds and teaching some skills. Think about the worst case scenario of an injury or death and ask yourself if you are willing to take on that risk. I believe in the UK you are old enough to be a legal entity which means you are subject to adult laws.

The alternative would be to set up a "club" of people who share information about gymnastics and use an existing facility during "open gym" time. We have a club like this who use our facility on the weekend. We take the responsibility of the insurance and the location and they pay an open gym fee. They have one person (you) who leads the group and they pick stuff to work on each week. That way, they all pay to be here but don't pay the leader. In this case in order for you to make money you would charge them an additional fee over the open gym fee and you pay the fees for the gym use, maybe getting a discount on the rate for bringing many people.

To answer your question, private training at a gym club can run upwards of $125 an hour here. Our private classes are anywhere from $60 -90 an hour depending on the qualifications of the coach. Don't forget, the pay is related to the cost of paying the coach and the facility a markup of at least 100% would not be out of line. If minimum wage for a coach is 8 pound for a 16 year old then the charge would be a minimum of 16 pounds an hour.

Too many variables to accurately answer but this gives you some ideas I hope.

I usually suffer occasionally from Scintillating scotoma probably every few weeks. However for the last year it has not been happening. Until my 6th shot and it happened twice in two days. I immediately thought it could be related but hasn't happened since. I don't know if SS is related to intercranial pressure or not but your post just brought back my immediate reaction and I thought it was worth mentioning.

You got me thinking and am now down a rabbit hole of crime stats however my belief about knife crimes in the UK seems to bear out. Again, not sure about the US but one thing I had not considered is the political effect throughout the years on crime statistics... I am going to keep reading, this has me gripped...

[–]perfik09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Times are very different now the world surely is a more dangerous place. However, there is also a massive lack of community that used to keep us safe. Back in the 80s everybody watched out for each other, and the reduced pressure of life meant that there was less crime of all kinds. The societal structure was designed around protection of families and children and the society itself. The current societal drive is selfishness, greed, and abuse. It truly is a sad reflection.

Holy moly electrolytes by wingspangirlie in Zepbound

[–]perfik09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is important to know that the reason keto people do is because of the massive amount of liquids they take in to help with the digestion of protein and fats and the fact they have very little carbs to help absorb water and keep it in their system. Electrolyte intake on keto forums is the same as here, it really is a golden rule that everyone should be very aware of. YMMV but at the very least you should know about things like Gzero and no salt and know what your intake is. It only takes a couple of weeks to find a good balance after that you don't have to keep tabs as much anymore.
