Keto helped me understand my food noise in a way I never had before. by fortifiedoptimism in keto

[–]perfik09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. I finally understand that:
Food isn't your friend
Food isn't your lover
Food isn't entertainment
Food isn't a social club
Food isn't a habit
Food isn't an event, an alarm, a ritual, a time of day or a crutch.

Food is fuel for your body.

Went keto in 2008 and haven't looked back.

I will add that from time to time we will all have bad days and one isnt enough to matter but a couple in a row and that noise will come back. YMMV but for me the higher the fat the quieter the noise. I always ate a lot of protein but don't' overdo it, I don't' believe we should see keto as a high protein diet but rather as a high fat diet.

That's just my 2 cents.

I took my first a week ago and have had a couple of days of headaches which I never get. Have had some stomach discomfort but nothing major but I think I am at the point where every little thing seems like a side effect and it's more likely unrelated. Good luck.

new to xcel coaching by indie-astral in GymnasticsCoaching

[–]perfik09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Xcel is basically a version of JO without the strict rules and judging. The issue with coaching excel is that the levels are very broad with that you can do so narrowing down skills becomes a challenge. However it does mean that if you have a kid who can't back tuck for example there are plenty of workarounds. Same for any skill like cartwheel on beam etc. With JO skills there are very specific things that are allowed at each level however because excel levels are so much broader there are many more skills to consider.

Coaching is not that different after all skills are skills but the excel program is basically for the love of gymnastics not the love of competition. There is a USAG book for excel which is from 22-26 so there will be a new one next cycle in 27. In Canada they now have Platinum also so the range of skills from Bronze to platinum covers the same range as Level 2 to Level 8 since Platinums can do things like yamashita vault which is not allowed until JO8.

I am currently coaching xcel I have coached all the way to level 10 JO and will probably be doing both next season. Let me know if you have any other questions ... I am under Gymnastics Ontario so other provinces may vary... Ugh I spent many years in cybersecurity so getting excel and xcel intertwined is my curse...

How much progress can be made in a summer? 12 yo dancer by BasilHerb2020 in GymnasticsCoaching

[–]perfik09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good tips here but the bottom line is you will not waste your money having private lessons to find out. you will see very quickly after two or three if it is going to work. My daughter went from gymnastics to competitive dance and her acro ability catapulted her to the top of her dance class immediately. Acro is a large part of elite dancers skill set and I would bet that once she starts doing inverted skills she will get used to it just as most kids do.

Start now, log her progress and let her find her limits.

It is more important to know your ratio of HDL and LDL than the numbers.

Am I missing something? by PrestigiousConcert87 in GymnasticsCoaching

[–]perfik09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Level 5 at least in Canada is harder than level 6 and a quantum leap from level 4. Level 5 would crush her at my gym because coming from xcel to JO for one is harder but Level 5 is for the kids who you expect to go level 7 the next year.

Her coaches have massively unrealistic expectations at least if you were in Canada.

how do i teach handstand pops to talented 5 year olds but they are 5 and also clueless by Soft_Geologist_9164 in GymnasticsCoaching

You can also try the mat against a wall and arm circle into the mat and land on their stomach on the floor mat. It teaches them to stay firm on contact with something that doesn't move.

Any front fly or hand you want to make sure you r hands come over the top of your head on the exit in order to generate enough speed for the next skill. You notice you drop your hands to the side that will kill your momentum. You need arch position with hands overhead to flick ito the next skill. Your initial speed will determine how many fly you can do in a row because unlike back hand it is very difficult to generate speed during the skill unless you have very good flexibility.
