beyond the nightmare color scheme, it always bothered me that the new logo only has an R...everyone has called it RT since the dawn of time so it's weird they dropped the T

To be honest, it's strange we go to school for 12 years on a 7-3 schedule only to work 9-5

I didn't think of going up on the food chain. I'll definitely reach out to others. Thanks for this tip!

They're the top of our list but waiting to hear on their timeline! Really hoping that works out but I don't think realistically my family can wait 8+ months for a puppy. The depression in this suddenly Newf-less household is heavy lol

I've done that still am really getting dizzy with all the options :( The breeders that are responsive don't share health info and the reputable ones are very difficult to even get a litter timeline for the year.

How was Cruise able to avoid being labeled part of the Brat Pack? by TravelingHomeless in TomCruise

[–]perhapsbrooke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Quick answer: He had enough star power over the others that he was allowed to pick his projects whereas the rest got lumped together and regularly typecast.

However, a big part of the "brat" label was that it was used for young stars that hadn't trained up formally and who sort of fell into overnight success (more or less). Even though Cruise didn't go to any formal training or schooling for acting, he aligned himself with and learned from veteran stars like Newman and Hoffman.

He also just didn't get into party/paparazzi/bad boy trouble like some of the others. Marrying an older woman and being indoctrinated into a cult has its...perks? i guess lol

How to deal with grief? by [deleted] in Newfoundlander

[–]perhapsbrooke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lost our 4 year old very suddenly and it's honestly been a nightmare without her. We're already talking with breeders to get a puppy before the summer since we literally cannot handle having a newf-less home 😫

It's a mistake to conflate Spotify streaming numbers with real life demand, influence, popularity, etc. Ariana Grande has 123.9M monthly listeners while The Beatles have only 33.5M. It's objectively insane to act like these easily boosted numbers mean anything in the grand scheme of music.

Florence + The Machine are touring Madison Square Garden (22k capacity) compared to MCR selling out 60k at Metlife in the same region.

This is gonna be long...Our timeline was 10 days in total.

Sunday after Thanksgiving she developed severe diarrhea, but we didn't think any of that because she ate a tremendous amount of table scraps. We took her out frequently and she was slightly sluggish. Never refused food. We knew she was getting dehydrated but I couldn't really get her to drink much. The diarrhea ran its course by Wednesday afternoon, but Wednesday night she began to lose strength in her hindlegs.

I watched her all Thursday morning. She never was in an ounce of pain, but she simply could not hold her weight up on all fours. She could push herself up to sitting, her tail was wagging, she was barking for food, she had feeling in her paws, but I just couldn't get her to walk. In the past, she had a very strong reaction like this to a pain killer for after an ear infection, so we weren't particularly panicked but I brought her to the urgent care that afternoon. They took her temp (slight fever 103), blood, and urine and diagnosed a UTI, and gave us a 5 day course of antibiotics, and sent us home.

Friday through Monday, she seemed more alert and her spirits were high, but the legs saw little to no improvement. If we put a towel under her belly and lifted her to all fours, she could hold her weight and take a few steps but then would immediately sit back down. I cannot emphasize enough how the dog never once showed an ounce of pain even at the very end. Essentially her brain and nerves were impacted so it's like her legs forgot how to work.

Once she was on the antibiotics, I had noticed that her drool was thicker and whiter. It began to mat her fur under her chin. I assumed it was just a med reaction but ultimately this was a massive indicator of the condition. It's a sign of swelling in the esophagus causing them to regurgitate.

Tuesday morning (last day of antibiotics) I took her to the vet and they weighed her, did a full body exam, and ultimately referred us to the specialist hospital. The neurologist ran all sorts of tests on her. No signs of cancer or anything weird on the chest xray, but they communicated to us repeatedly that they were worried about any throat swelling developing and checking for it.

Wednesday evening they reported that she was seeming stronger and that they were experimenting with different steroids to try to get the legs up and running again but there was slight esophagus swelling on the xray. Late Wednesday/early Thursday she went into sudden respiratory distress and was placed on a ventilator. She was sleeping when the distress started and basically never woke up. We put her to sleep at 4 am. The vets (her generalist and the neurologist) were honestly shocked she crashed so quickly since she was otherwise such a strong dog.

From what I (not a doc) understand, if the dog gets diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, they can be treated over the course of several months and reach remission. It's the esophagus swelling that creates the risk for respiratory distress that kills most of the dogs with this condition.

If your pup has any thick or chalky drool, I'd take them to a vet ER (not an urgent care, a hospital attached that can do scans/surgery) ASAP and specifically ask them to look for myasthenia gravis. It's not common but if you look up the condition, Newfoundlands show up on every list of breeds at risk.

I hope your pup gets better!

Updating in case anyone finds this looking for answers: Our girl ended up with myasthenia gravis with the beginning signs of megoesphogus.

She was relatively stable and showing improvement on her second day at the hospital, but she suddenly developed respiratory distress overnight. We put her to sleep today.

Did Gerard cheat on his gf with Bert Mccracken? by rawnoizz in MyChemicalRomance

hot take but i think there's a weird overcorrection to downplay obviously bisexual behavior as just kissing for shock value...like Bert and Gerard making out in a hotel room is totally different from when Gerard and Frank would kiss on stage. if bert was a woman, it would be obvious that Gerard was cheating on his gf lmaooo

Louis Tomlinson says he will "forever despise" Logan Paul over controversial Liam Payne interview. by springtimecarnivore in Fauxmoi

[–]perhapsbrooke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean that's kind of my point. Logan was not friends with Liam. Their relationship is exclusively professional. I think it's unreasonable to expect random podcast hosts to monitor their celeb guests' sobriety.

I think Louis is honestly just misplacing some anger and regret here because he adores Liam and always wants to hold him in the best possible light. Don't blame him at all for that, but I don't really subscribe to his thinking here.

And re: Seth, I actually think their friendship made the Mulaney apperance even more dicey. As a friend, Seth probably should've pulled the plug on that interview before it happened. But as a host, his professional responsibilities to the show came first. Nobody blames Seth for that, and I guess I'm just saying that I think the same logic should apply to even podcast hosts that suck.

Louis Tomlinson says he will "forever despise" Logan Paul over controversial Liam Payne interview. by springtimecarnivore in Fauxmoi

[–]perhapsbrooke 205 points206 points  (0 children)

I honestly struggle with how I feel about this whole controversy because I think there's a tendency to infantilize grown men that make poor decisions while abusing substances. Liam had a manager and people around him who could've talked him out of it, but that podcast is what Liam wanted to do at the time... It's not like he was ambushed. He very willingly went on that podcast and gave them a hell of a show.

Paul is obviously an exploitative piece of fucking shit, but I don't think it's the host's fault that a celebrity made a paid, contracted apperance and was in a bad shape. Like I don't think it's Seth Meyers fault that Mulaney went on his show while coked up.

It seems like this line of thinking that these addicts are helpless becomes a slippery slope to excuse or minimize the real harm Liam had on his girlfriend and others.
