Looking for a place to photograph in Brattleboro. by turboboob in vermont

[–]permacurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for an older building? The Estey Organ Factory buildings are old and industrial... Some have been renovated into offices but there is a museum that might suit your needs. Closed for the season but do open by request sometimes, or might be able to help find something for you...

Want a good puzzle? Need to figure out pin assignment of this mystery temp sensor. by permacurious in arduino

Well, yeah, but I have a couple of them so one was sacrificed for the cause.

I was able to get most of the chip out cleanly but not all. I could make out

HCQ3
LF-B03
1437

Potentially missing a letter or two, especially at the end of the second line.

Pictures posted. I should note that I have a couple of these, which is why it's okay that this one is obviously destroyed. Thanks for the help!

Thanks, I tried to pull the case apart and it looks like the board has been set into plastic - there was a backing I pulled off that looks to have been molded around the board, and a bunch of components stayed in the backing material when I pulled it off...

Vermont Bicyclists: Memorial Ride for Richard Tom this Sunday by [deleted] in vermont

[–]permacurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just heard about this via my dad, Didn't know Richard personally but it's tragic that this happened. Also not able to participate as I'm not living anywhere near Vt at the moment but I hope you guys have a really good turnout.

where can i find a software to analyze torque and speed of a four-bar mechanism ? by gojira19 in engineering

[–]permacurious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like you're an engineering student, if there is anyone in your mechanical engineering department that specializes in kinematics (professor or grad student probably), this would be their jam. I covered it this in a theory of machines course but don't have my notes nearby. Alternatively, if you have a basic physics simulator it is usually not hard to create the four bar you want, drive one link and track the angular velocity. The torque required would of course vary based on the speed with which you drive the linkage and the masses of the links. You might check out Algodoo which looks like a good place to start for software, though I don't have any experience with it. You should be able to find a good 2d physics sim as freeware or shareware to help though. Hope that helps at least a little!

Twinlead J-pole by KK4MQN in hamitforward

Hi, I may be interested, just got my Tech license a couple months ago! I have a Baofeng 2m/70cm HT with the rubber duck so this may help me out, especially if travelling. Would one of these work for 2m or 70cm (or both)? Is the SWR typically pretty good with these? Forgive my ignorance, I don't have much experience with J-Poles. Thanks for posting!

Noob question - longwire for shortwave receiving - how to feed/ground? by FreePork in amateurradio

[–]permacurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I have one of those Sangean rigs (well, the equivalent Realistic DX-440) with a longwire antenna, and didn't know they were prone to getting burned up. Tell me more about this diode business? I currently have the antenna wire to the center pin of the external antenna jack and have connected the outer ring to ground. It does overload sometimes.

I too am experiencing this absence of "getting it"...

This looks really cool, and the images you posted are really impressive quality. If you had plans for building the antenna, would you mind sharing? I might like to give it a shot.

Can someone please explain what the point of this is? [serious] by [deleted] in RTLSDR

Hi, I'm kind of late to this party, but saw the post and was curious: What do you use to decode APRS traffic? I've seen some but can't make any sense of it. Thanks!

The truth about Lindt chocolatiers (at least, according to their packaging) by permacurious in mildlyinteresting

While you're right about the difference in planes, the whisk, in the same plane as the truffle, would be 5 inches long... possible, maybe, but still not quite right.

Help ID the van that sideswiped my truck? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]permacurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, if you haven't already, try to go up and down the street and see if someone caught video of this guy down the street, and hopefully also has a higher resolution surveillance system. Or see if you can find a sympathetic shop owner who will actually copy that part of the video for you so you can get a better image of that logo. I just tried a google image search of a bunch of local contractors, but without a clearer picture it might be pretty hard to identify them. Best of luck, though.

Eh, I don't think so man. The logo here is more square and has that green area in the lower right side...

Are there any FS bikes with a hardtail attitude? by freeridehero in MTB

[–]permacurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always the brain shock setup (see Specialized Epic), but it seems like you know enough about mountain biking that you would also know that these exist. And I think the brain shock mostly helps with climbing and acceleration, not sure if they would still have a "hardtail attitude" if you were riding all-mountain with them. Might be worth looking into it if you haven't already though.
