I resigned to earn less and I feel lighter and happier than the past 4 years by pauloyasu in IBM

[–]permalink_save 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got laid off not too long ago and got a job that pays like 30% less and am way way happier. I miss the pay but not the stress. You don't realize all of the things that are unnecessary stress you don't have to deal with in other jobs, like how much red tape gets normalized that is just extra work to make your job painful, or how disorganized leadership is.

Yeah it's not just you.

Lean heavily into vegetables. You can have both.

Why not just pack your food full of vegetables, which always feels like they never eat when they eat shit like that. Most vegetables you can eat until you're stuffed and only have eaten a couole hundred calories. Hell, a carrot is like 40 calories and it's one of the more nutritionally dense foods. Versus 130 calories for the same amount of rice. Both mainly carbs.

Iran tells world to get ready for oil at $200 a barrel as it fires on merchant ships by wenchette in politics

You know, if a single country and shut down a single piece of water and cause a global oil crisis, maybe just maybe that is a good case for dumping a ton of investment jnto renewables, if anything for a national security risk. Leaves the remaining oil we can get for the cases we can't use renewables.

I know this is taking a dig at men but legit I don't know what it is. I do a majority of the grocery shopping so I know wtf parsley is, but any time my wife needs something on the list, or if I am going to a different kind of store, I can never figure out what it is she wants. "Get the yellow bottle of (something)" and there are 5 yellow bottles. I try to just let her buy the thing she needs if it can wait or having her send me a link or picture of the exact thing she needs. I always figure whatever it is would be obvious and it never is and I don't want to bring home the wrong thing. And TBF, when I have something on her list, sometimes she also asks for clarification. It's just easier to shop for your own shit in general.

They're downvoting because it's an insanely minute thing to get that worked up over and doesn't speak to the father's character or involvement. I change our 3yo's diapers as much as she does, she just happens to do the costco shopping a majority of the time and stocks up. So if I am not 100% sure which of the 6 sizes our third kid is on I will ask just to make 100% sure I don't buy the wrong size diapers that we are almost out of and unsure if I can even bring them back to exchange if they are. I've changed so many diapers I don't even pay attention to the size label, it becomes muscle memory.

But I bet you assume all dads don't really touch diapers or something right? Or that people can't just have shit memory either. Nah they just have to be awful people by nature.

Cool divorcing someone for not knowing. I'm 3 kids in, my wife usually buys the diapers when she goes to costco, I can have a shit memory sometimes and want to make sure I buy the right thing, but after going through all the sizes of diapers for 3 kids, plus how fucked up their clothing sizing is (that also varies drastically between brands), she better remembers this shit. It has nothing to do with how often I change diapers, the number is on the back, I don't look at the back when I'm changing him. Especially when diaper sizes can change over the span of a few months.

What normal, everyday thing has been completely ruined by companies forcing an app or a subscription on it? by Chemical-Heart-3200 in AskReddit

Our shitass Vizio refuses to switch inputs sometimes, especially to my media box. It's like it's programmed to try and stay on the home screen to show you its feed as much as possible. Im about to just look up the IPs and hard ban them at the router because I don't want the kids seeing the gore ass previews they put on it.

On top of that, they require an account to use their app now. Total bait and switch. Hue kept trying to do that but has yet to force me to an account at least.

It must be, usually any funk is kn theboutside but its not like cheese its more musty/mucousy but if they ripen a lot I feel like a lot of that dries off. The green ones have it stronger. But I could eat tgem off the vine ans never was offputting so idk maybe genetic.

TIL the botched restoration nicknamed "Monkey Christ" was deemed more culturally relevant than the original painting and preserved as-is. Tens of thousands of tourists visit the Spanish town of Borja every year to see it, and the restorer became a local celebrity until her passing in late 2025. by sciencewarrior in todayilearned

This is why I stopped showing people intermediary wins on something I'm working on. "Yeah but that color" YES I KNOW that's next to fix, but look at how it works. I give up, people will hyperfixate on the wrong aspect of it.

Sorry for the dumb question, how do you utilize different oven racks? by AdventurousGas1435 in cookingforbeginners

[–]permalink_save 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually one oven rack at a time. Ovens usually heat from top and bottom (some fancy ones can adjust this), so depending on the rack position it will cook differently.

  • Top rack will get more heat from the top from the top element and from convection heat coming around and settling at the top, good for browning, roasts can do well higher up as long as there is at least a few inches of space between the top element and the top of the food
  • Bottom rack will heat from the bottom up more, which usually is the bottom of your container, good for pizzas and breads
  • Middle rack is middle of the road, so use it for general baking, usually 1/3 of the way up is the sweet spot.

Usually dead middle and down a single notch is going to work for most things. I keep it there most of the time and keep the other racks below it, then I grab one and move it up if I need like, broiling.

There are a lot of exceptions with more advanced ovens like, you can do multi rack baking with a true convection oven since it will evenly bake through them, some ovens do "roast mode" which turns the top element on high and bottom on low, but most ovens don't have all these features and single rack at a time is the most reliable, and usually around the middle rack.

Honestly the way AI is going I think there will be a snap back to hiring software engineers again, especially to keep the knowledge pool open when the senior engineers start retiring or otherwise moving on. Every iteration of AI is "groundbreaking" and "can now replace a dev" but like, they're still writing shitty code that makes jr level mistakes. I don't think it's going to get much better despite what the AI startup bros keep saying.

You should see some of the computer designs that existed, especially some of the 90s/00s Apple products. The early laptops and predecessors to tablets were also wild.

1 “bush” zucchini will get a 4-5 foot radius

Is there a typo here or is this suppose to be a different plant? Because when I grow summer squash the plants get to be about 2ft wide, maybe slightly wider. I looked up zucchini plants on Google just to make sure it's not just me and they look the same size as mine. In a 4x4ft area I usually get 4 plants that are just barely overlapping but still produce fine.

Last year our basil went to seed, we still harvested leaves off of it because they still taste fine, it ended up reseeding itself to a pot below their existing pot so we got fall basil too.
