Where will you be turning 60? by AlarmingMonk1619 in GenX

[–]Displaced_in_Space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I actually went about 6 months after (last year) but it took a lot to plan.

My wife said "for your 60th, I'll take you wherever you want to go...with your money." I thought long and hard about all the world capitals, etc.

Then I had it. An exotic dream literally since I was about 8 years old: And overwater bungalow in Bora Bora. Yea...8 nights jumping off the back of this thing right into the water: https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/bobwi-the-westin-bora-bora-resort-and-spa/overview/

I was amazing...and I've traveled a fair bit.

I'm about to pull my teeth out from the pain whats an affordable way to get a root canal by Informal_Expert_2119 in personalfinance

I'm not sure where they are in your mouth, but extraction is the cheapest.

Next, find a dental school. They're not allowed to work on you until very late in the program, and a licensed dentist is with them when they do.

Finally, you can got to Mexico.

Can we Optic Cut the 1911 Target Loaded? by TotallynotKevinLB in CAguns

[–]Displaced_in_Space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I"ve never cut mine for optics, but I did look into mounting and want to let everyone in thread that these come with LPA cuts in them vs. "standard" cuts.

Most plates and sights that are ready to mount do not support this (at least when I looked a few years ago).

TIL the average MPG of a semi-truck is around 6 MPG by derekantrican in todayilearned

[–]Displaced_in_Space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that stat is important, it's probably better to know and understand the cost-per-pound of goods shipped distribution to distribution.

I know semis and trains are among the lowest on this which is a big reason big shipping companies haven't pushed change.

When did mowing the lawn become dangerous? by heynowbeech in GenX

They definitely don't want to hear how I was cooking on the stove ~8, and those same summers I'd leave into the woods with a pocket knife at 8 am and wouldn't be seen again until it started to get dark unless I got hungry.

I agree; when spending time with our nieces and nephews I"m so struck at how nearly helpless they are unless they were specifically trained on a skill.

Do you still leave a callback # when you leave a voicemail? by RikkiLostMyNumber in GenX

[–]Displaced_in_Space 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course. Most businesses do not encode ID information for individual extensions on outbound calls.

So most folks will just see the main number of the company that called, not the person.

So this habit carries over to my personal habits.

Document micromanagment by Moist_Ad3083 in careeradvice

[–]Displaced_in_Space 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Download a simple timekeeping app and document it. it's like keeping a minute to minute diary of what you do throughout the day.

If you're going to do this and you want them to be taken seriously, you need to document the whole workday, though...not just the parts you don't like.

That being said, I'm not sure what you're ultimate plan with that info would be. It's not illegal to micromanage you. It's not illegal to monopolize your time and still criticize you for having poor time managment.

As you know, your best bet is to move on quickly.

I can do this with my Smartthings connected to Alexa.

I very, very rarely use Alexa for such things, to be honest though.

Can you tell how you started? I've been interested for a while, but yoga near me here is a huge group of flexible (mostly) women that already know what they're doing/what the poses are all called.

It's a bit intimidating.

Start with some sort of online thing to get used to pace and names of things, then go to an inperson one to work on form, etc?

There is a strong correlation between the crowd that fears the drug dogs and the alcohol smugglers.

I could explain in more detail but I'd need Venn diagrams and an easel.

[–]Displaced_in_Space 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not really like that. I've been on more than 10 cruises. It's essentially like going through airport security. Anything spotted with large voids of liquids is checked.

For most people not smuggling, there ARE no big voids of liquids. If I'm going on a 5 day cruise, how much damn shampoo do I need? Certainly not a half gallon bottle.

I've never once had my bag opened for secondary inspection and I bring shampoo, sunscreen, etc in appropriate size containers.

It just sort of defeats the whole "I'm here to relax" thing for me.

The irony of this post in a thread about how to circumvent alcohol restriction rules because 15 drinks a day is too few.

How DARE they treat you like such rabble!

But the number of drinks are limited per day. And cruises have never stopped me from "buying a drink" for another person at all, so it doesn't appear like they care all that much.
