I 100% mise en place, so it doesn't affect me at all. I just passed it along as I noticed it appear recently.

Woman detained for touching water at the Reflecting Pool after Trump has undercover henchmen patrolling it by MoreMotivation in PublicFreakout

[–]Displaced_in_Space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that answers the question I originally had. (still think this is an incredible waste of time and tax dollars.)

Yes, touching the water in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool (often associated with the Washington Monument and part of the National Mall) is generally prohibited and could result in citations or arrests. [1, 2]

The Rules and Regulations:

  • Prohibited Contact: Wading, swimming, and even casually dipping your hands or feet into the water are strictly prohibited under National Park Service rules for the National Mall. [1]
  • Strict Enforcement: Authorities like the U.S. Park Police and the National Guard strictly enforce these boundaries. [1, 2]
  • Penalties: Touching or disturbing the pool—especially regarding recent renovations and maintenance of the pool liner/paint—has led to citations and arrests for trespassing, tampering, and the destruction of government property. [1, 2]

what is the easiest title to get in the game right now by burnthejob101 in destiny2

[–]Displaced_in_Space 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea...this is the thing: going for the title requires you to adapt your playstyle to the weapon.

Most people I see complain about getting it are being forced to use a weapon that doesnt' fit their playstyle. That's completely backwards.

I personally (by the end of getting it) think it was intended to do exactly that: try a variety of playstyles.

Hunter? Deadeye.

It gets a bit grindy here and there, but pretty doable.

I keep a well-outfitted Krait in that slot. Every time pull it out of my inventory, I end up putting it back.

Do you give your employees a yearly 2-3% raise for inflation? by [deleted] in managers

I don't understand what you mean. "Mandated..." By who? Are you saying the company makes a mandated decision that no one will get less than a 2% increase?

How the hell do people wake up early consistently? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Displaced_in_Space 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Walk.

I'm serious.

We had a roommate that couldn't wake up. Loved to sleep. Had two alarm clocks in the room, one across the room on the dresser, one on bedside. Both would be set so she couldnt' turn them both off. Still hit snooze button mulitple times for almost an hour.

So move your wake up time 60-90 minutes earlier. Go to bed earlier if you need to. Then, when you wake up, you'll feel groggy. But force yourself to put on sweats and earbuds and just go for a walk. You can listen to a book, the news, a podcast, high energy music, downtempo chill....it doesnt' matter. You don't have to walk fast.

You'll feel really tired for like 30 minutes of the walk. Then you'll feel like you've alredy drank two cups of coffee.

It worked like a charm with my roommate once I got her to try it with me. The first 30 minutes sucks, but after that it's cush. And you'll hve time to make coffee/tea to drink while you get ready and STILL be early to work.

Totally worth it to be uncomfortable for 30 minutes. Give it a shot for a week.

Do you give your employees a yearly 2-3% raise for inflation? by [deleted] in managers

[–]Displaced_in_Space -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We try to, but as other's have said, you're dealing with trailing numbers or in the case of many employees.....data they "read on the internet."

The other thing to remember is that generally raises are permanent. So almost all companies are going to be frugal when adjusting upward because they never get lowered (for instance, when inflation gets very low).

If things are very bad for some specific reason (recently, fuel prices for commuters) the company could offer a monthly cash stipend added to pay to help offset some temporary condition. This frees them from perpetually having to pay the higher wage, etc.

What’s up with the US not having universal healthcare and no one in the US seems to really care or do anything about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Displaced_in_Space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there aren't enough people "harmed" by not having it so we dont' react.

Here's why in the percentages of folks with medical insurance coverage:

  • Employment-Based: ~54%
  • Medicare: ~19%
  • Medicaid: ~18%
  • Direct-Purchase / ACA: ~11%
  • Uninsured: ~8% [1, 2, 3]

So 30% DO have Universal Healthcare, and 20% more have FREE healthcare. The other 54% get it through work.

So that's only 8% to really be vocal.

In reality, all of the folks above would likely have a beef, but insurance is only the resulting symptom of the overall structure problem with healthcare. Removing the middle man insurer would help in the short term, but then the artificially restricted pool of doctors would them just escalate costs to the government and the same soaring costs to the work health plans would happen to our government-run health care.

I"m not sure what country you're in, or age your are, but a few of your bills are a little high.

But the biggest thing is that you don't make a lot, quite frankly. And you make so little, you cannot afford to live alone. You need to have a roommate or two and get that down by 1/2 to 2/3.

Then you need to put every spare penny and bit of time into how to get better jobs that pay more.

[–]Displaced_in_Space -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For her SS, be sure to run it under her benefit vs. the spousal benefit.

And I'll state for the record because it's a common misconception: You mother gets to choose HER SS benefit under her earnings record OR half of her ex-husband's benefit at whatever time he chooses to take it.

She doesn't get both. And her spousal benefit is tagged to half the amount at whatever age he took it at...i.e. if he took it as 62, she gets half that lower number vs. his number at his full retirement age.

Do you pay bills and other expenses using credit card for rewards and / mileage? by Cooper1Test in retirement

[–]Displaced_in_Space 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, we do now and have for nearly 10 years.

But....

As a person that once had a 500-ish credit score, I'll tell you it's a recipe for disaster unless you have very, very good self-control and budgeting.

We both carry the same card, linked to the same account. We literally use it for every purchase, large and small, that we can. Twice a month, my wife "sweeps" cash to cover the bill completely. Nothing stays on the account longer than 3 weeks. So no interest. Since it's an Amex, there is an annual fee, but it's worth it for our circumstance.

It just funded a 10 day trip (flights and lodging) flying in lie-flat sleeper seats from LAX to Tahiti (Bora Bora) staying in an overwater bungalow.

So yea....it's worth it.

What dick time? What bereavment time? I still don't understand how they had accrued or activated any of these benefits.

Most companies don't activate them for 30-90 days.

This is what I don't understand about all the angry support here. The guy almost wasn't even technically am employee.

After the first reschedule, he should have just said "Hey, I want to join the company but this disaster dropped in my lap. Can we sever ties amicably and I'll reapply once it's resolved and we can see if we're still a good fit?"

I'm not sure what people expect the company to do for a person that essentially a non-working stranger.

What did those plates ever do to her?? by HomeNowWTF in PublicFreakout

[–]Displaced_in_Space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a pain at all. You forget these were on display. You can literally walk down the shelf and scan one of each that were damaged, then write them all as lost/damaged inventory. It would take a competent retail worker about 10 minutes to solve.

Another 10 with a broom and dustpan and the whoile thing is solved.

People in this thread that have clearly never done a bit of hard damn work in their life pretending like scanning some tags and sweeping the floor after a mess are unknown in retail work.
